    Microsoft fanboy here and a happy iPad pro & pencil user.
    The eraser on the back would be great, when precision is needed it should be use as it is now.
    The apple pencil is definitely better than any other stylus out there. A button for extra features would be a nice addition.
    Disclaimer. I'm a engineering student and I take all my notes on an iPad Pro 12.9". Notes that could not be typed. I only useh Onenote for the pencil use and I can't really draw "artistically".
    Software updates and power user apps need to be created to take advantage of all the potential of such big and powerful device

    love the pencil...i was unsure about getting it...but im glad.
    The idea of charging it with the ipad is only to give it a boost -- not to fully charge it.
    i do find it slightly top heavy...i would like a longer charge (if im drawing, it struggle to get through a day).
    i would love handwriting to text software.
    i also find that drawing on glass takes time to adapt to...
    but the precision stuff is much better -- i have the 9.7" so sometimes it's best to use the pencil... there are times when a finger is just too chubby...
    having it work on my phone would be great -- not to use all the time... but sometimes im working with both my phone and ipad side by side... i lean over the tap the screen with my pencil and find myself having to mess around putting the pencil down to use my finger... not good.

    apple wont switch to USB c on their phones because it is thicker, and apple wants control over their accessory ecosystem, meaning they want a proprietary port.

    I'm a college math instructor. I use the iPad Pro 12.9 as a virtual white board using Good Notes, writing on the iPad and projecting the result on an overhead, and making pdfs of the notes to send out to students. It works wonderfully for this purpose, and is the reason I bought an iPad Pro and pencil. I also use it as a mathematics notebook.

    @obedchattergoon2780 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I originally didn't plan on buying it but I got it as a gift. I used it a lot when I was in college. I'm no artist but the Pencil was great at simple note taking and annotations and filling out forms I would normally scan, but unlike something like the S-Pen, using the Pencil was just as comfortable as using a real pen or pencil. I'm also still on my first tip and haven't replaced tips yet.
    Still loving my Apple Pencil.

    i been using my Surface pen to take notes in class for a year now, its rubber in the back is very precise contrary to what this guy says. also i tried the ipad pro pen, it feels like as if you are writing on glass, it definitely sounds like that. Surface feels natural and no annoying sound.

    • @LitheFider
      @LitheFider 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris K I agree, I tried my friend's ipad pro and hated the stylus. It felt stiff (felt like it had no give to pressure) and floaty, as the nib was so big and smooth. I have been using wacom tablets for 15 years and my note 3 phone for 4 years. My small note 3 stulus plus the Artflow app (a full featured art app) gave a better sketching experience for me.
      To each their own though. I guess I always felt out of the loop with all the apple pencil artist hype.

    I'm addicted to the game "8 Ball Pool" by MiniClip, which I currently play on my iPad Air 2. - I use my index finger to control aiming the cue and then again for adjusting the amount of spin and force needed for each shot. - Of course in time the screen will get dirty/sticky, making play much more difficult to be quick and precise. - In your opinion, would an iPad Pro/Pencil be a good option for me to consider? Thank You - RYR

      Spykedjadedragon Yeah, but I rather TYPE it on a screen that tiny cause it wouldn't really work out for me to write on my phone^^ On a screen like the iPad its more comfortable I think but I DONT NEED any stylus for technical devices:) Maybe it's not the best idea to compare the  Pen with the S-pen cause apple has made it more likely for pro users (Graphikers) and the s-pen is made for everyday people like you and me

It's been my primary notebook for about 8 different classes. While not on the regular version, it can be easily utilised on plus range of iphones. Especially considering how user friendly apple usually makes their products

    I'm waiting for the iPad Pro 2 and Pencil 2, but I enjoy playing with the iPad Pro and Pencil in the Apple Store. Things I want in the next iPad Pro: Force Touch (when I switch between my iPhone 7 Plus and my iPad Air 2, I find I miss it now), less bezel (more cowbell!), and...well, that's about it. I waited too long to buy the original set, so now I know I must wait until the new one comes out in a few weeks. Nice review, and loving the vintage gear. Makes me feel old. Did you play with any of the original Apple products like the Apple II? My wife used to work in the building that houses the original (one of the original?) Apple 1 prototypes or something. Kinda cool having that artifact in the same building you work. Feels like the Ark of the Covenant or something. "Don't look at it, no matter what happens!"

  • @paul6925

    I'm an artist with an iPad pro and I like the pencil because it reminds of a conte crayon. I wish they would come out with different tips for it though. Maybe one that had more tooth to it so the glass isn't as slippery when trying to ink. I put a cover over my screen to give it more grip like paper but it's annoying because it's hard to keep out the dust and the brightness is slightly reduced.

    I like your way of thinking 🤔 my thought exactly. The best stylus indeed!

  • @ashoif77
    @ashoif77 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    +Tailosive Tech I've used the apple pencil, and it's definitely a really great stylus, but idk if I'd call it the best. It tends to be too aggressive with its tilt recognition (from 0 to 100 real quick). Like you mentioned the durability isn't really there, this is kinda a problem with alot of Glossy plastic stuff from Apple. And while I definitely like that it charges fast, charging it with the iPad if your on the go or something is just an accident waiting to happen. Also, despite what you said I still prefer an eraser on the back, it's very natural to simply turn the pencil around to erase. Maybe not the way Microsoft did it, but like Wacom's pens where the back end is also pressure sensitive.
    Overall, the higher end Wacom digitizer pens are better IMO, they don't need to charge *At All* (huge plus for me), they tend to handle tilt better, they have a little bit of give on the tip when writing so it fells a bit nicer then writing on something static, and they have a matt/soft touch texture which tends to age better then the glossy plastic on the apple pencil (minor but nice). Lastly they have built in technology that makes it so that you *Can't* make an unintentional mark with your hand, the pen uses something totally different from touch. Even though the iPad Pro has great palm rejection, I've had it occasionally fail.
    All in all, I'd be great if Apple used Wacom's technology in the next Apple pencil, I'd love it for the better palm rejection and no charging alone

    • @Tenraiden
      @Tenraiden 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ashoi F Tilt detection depends on the app; each app decides how to interpret the raw values, including pressure and stroke speed etc.

    • @ashoif77
      @ashoif77 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea.. And thats another thing. Every app treating the pencil different is slightly annoying. But with the Wacom pens you can fine tune the pressure curve (and other settings) to whatever you like and -- as far as I know -- *Every* app will treat it the same as what you set
      I’ve seen some android tablets, windows computers and even the Galaxy Note series use Wacom’s tech, so I’m sitting here hoping that Apple does the same;
      1) No pairing
      2) No charging
      3) You can fine tune it
      4) It’s consistent between apps

    I'm months past this post air date but found it interesting. I agree completely about the Surface pen utility. Lots of room for improvement. I disagree with the S-Pen comments. I use it in my Note 4 constantly. The S Pen is integrated into the Note device and OS. Its truly like having a pencil and paper always available and does so much more with the integration to the Samsung suite of native tools and integration with the OS.

    The apple pencil and the surface pen are honestly very similar. Precision wise they're actually exactly the same (except for the new surface pen that came out but I'm sure apple with update theirs too). The main gripe I have is the pencil's charging is super risky with the side of the ipad and its actual battery life. Which is atrocious for some reason.

    the fact it only works with the ipad pro's is the only thing I really hate about it, as it doesn't work on my current ipad.. and not planning to spend a grand just for that...
    But I had a good few chances to use it, it works really nice. I'd say for taking quick notes and stuff as a student or at work it is hard to beat, and easier then paper.
    as for art. I'm not sure.. the sensitivity is there to be used as a pencil for art, but i'm not sure the software is up to scratch though to really do it. I've had several different drawing apps on my ipad(s), but it's hard to beat the software you get on a computer or mac and they seem more like little sketch apps or doodle apps then actual artwork and photo-editing software like photoshop/illustrator/animate/etc. So I'd still much prefer to use something like a wacom (either stand alone computer or the cintiq screens) for actual artwork...
    apple needs to come out with a competitor for the microsoft surface studio (the massive one new one).. I didn't like the surface, had the same issue as you.. and wasn't too happy with the accuracy of the pens either.. slight jitters that shouldn't happen when you're looking for accuracy..
    Give me an Imac 27", 5k screen, compatible with the apple pencil, with a screen that can tilt like that surface studio..

      Simply Steve Tons of artists already use the iPad Pro in favor of a computer for drawing. Sure it lacks certain features, but Procreate is actually a really good app, and most artists can get what they want done on the iPad Pro, and finish it up in photoshop later if needed. Such as the stranger things poster, that was mostly drawn on an iPad Pro

    I honestly did use my S-Pen on my Note 4 a lot, although I am in art school and i love doodling and taking hand written notes. But I honestly used it just as much as i use my Apple Pencil which is most times I use the respective device. But now that I have the pencil, I have no reason to have a stylus with my phone anyway. I think the S-Pen was useful, just more of a niche product than even the Apple Pencil.
    Great video though!

    As an artist and an owner of the Apple Pencil and iPad Pro and mostly likes Android products and Windows, The apple pencil is really great but having an eraser at the back end of the pen would be great since it would decrease my work time. Been using it for almost a year and my pen dropped a lot of times thanks to it circular shape and it has not broke yet waiting for it and saving for a replacement so If it ever breaks. The cap of the pen I feel is lose and isn't really the best but it stills hold whenever I try to flail it to try to remove the cap and It hasn't removed. I don't really get why the hate for the apple pencil even though it works so well. It might be the price, but the price is worth it but I would rather purchase a Microsoft Studio the huge computer since it would probably be better.

    I agree that this is very a very "Apple" product in that it is the most expensive, yet made of the least expensive materials and has the least amount of features.
    On the surface, it comes with the pen, the pen has an eraser (while the pencil does not), the pen attaches to the surface pro 4, and the surface pen also has a more premium build all while a replacement is just 60% of the cost of an iPad pencil. You can get two surface pens for just $20 more than one Apple Pencil. If you count the pen that comes with surface, that is three pens for $20 more than one Apple Pencil.

    Fun fact you actually can charge the Apple Pencil with your iPhone lol. Also Apple Pencil haters like most Apple haters have never tried it or used it daily. I used the surface as well and had the exact same feelings but I could have gotten over it had Windows not been crap and even then Windows needs an app like notability that can Synch audio to hand written notes. That is killer as a student to be able to go back to lecture notes and hear exactly how what the professor was saying at the exact time you wrote notes down (which also gives you the ability to write down more things you may have missed). I never worry about the pencil breaking while charging in the iPad. Plus it's great for emergency charging so I'm never without the pencil... my biggest gripe about the pencil is the lack of storage for it. I never lose things but now that I have more things to worry about in life I start to misplace things. I actually had to make a pouch on my Logitech create keyboard case to carry it because for some reason the 12inch case doesn't have a pencil loop 😑 ALSO THE LOGITECH CASE PUT A REALLY WEIRD SCRATCH ON THE TOP BORDER OF THE SCREEN THAT TOUCHES THE METAL!! USE A PIECE OF FABRIC OR SOMETHING TO COVER THE IPAD or screen protector or something. Great keyboard though. Ah now that was a visceral experience. I should let this stuff out at 3 am more often.

    I agree with just about everything you said here. I used it every day and loved it to bits until my kids stole away the iPad Pro as their primary device. I picked up a Surface Pro 3 because I needed certain software packages and it's good for that, but Microsoft's pen doesn't come close to the control or detail I get with the Apple Pencil. I really hope they come out with something like Surface Studio though...It'd be perfect.

    Touch screen iMac? It's terrible. If monitor is turned to 20 degrees, keyboard obstructs and you have to put it away. Not good news if you decide to write and type simultaneously

    The warping on the Surface Pro is a video effect. There is no actual warping. You can turn it off in the control panel. I know a number of artists who use their Notes to sketch, and I prefer writing notes to typing. Do some research, fanboy.
