    The iPad is the "swiss army knife" of tablets - it can do it all. The Supernote, on the other hand, is an e-Ink tablet that was created with exactly one thing in mind: writing.

    I have both and love them both. Chris nails the strengths / weaknesses here.
    I can take notes in meetings far more easily on the Supernote, even with a Paperlike on my iPad. The battery lasts forever and I have the screen lock set really long so I can keep reference material in front of me without the screen turning off. It's got no camera for settings where that's a problem which can be important for me too.
    If I could only have 1 I'd have the iPad but in my consulting gig where I need to take notes and stay focused the Supernote's great. It's also really light and robust to bringing both when I need to is still not (much) heavier than a corporate-issue laptop.
    One correction: You can use a bluetooth keyboard with the Supernote, although I don't.

    Additional comment--I have an. Ipad Mini (5)and a 12.9 Ipad Pro. I carry the MIni with me to take notes--but because its a 5 have to use Pencil 1. Otherwise prefer notes on Pro and use Pencil 2--much better usage. I can see this for someone taking notes in meetings, class but for daily use, the Mini works fine for me (though will be happier once I can use Pencil 2 with it.

    My favorite parts of the SN are that it is a paper white, less eye strain reading ebooks, lasts for days or even weeks before it needs charged, custom templates I create for work like work orders customers can sign when I complete a job and time sheets. I was sold on it when I seen my boss using it and just had to get one, have never regretted it.

    I’ve been so curious about these e-ink pads and, as usual, Chris makes me want to open my wallet again. I’d been going “old school” recently (fountain pen and high-quality notebooks) for tasks, notes, and planning ideas. I just love the feel of a really good pen and paper. The problem is it’s harder to manipulate those analog documents (add things, remove things, maintain the notes with related things, search them). The fact that Lamy (one of the best analog pen manufacturers in the world) has created a pen for this device is an enormous plus. I guess I’d be curious to know how it compares to Remarkable (or other e-ink notepads) since I’d never heard of Supernote before this video. Based on the DailyTekk podcast though Remarkable sounds scared to provide a demo device. Anyway . . . Great review! I’m right there on the fence and giving it SERIOUS thought, where it wasn’t even on my radar this morning.

      I haven't had a SN but have had a Boox Note Air for almost 2 years. When I bought it, I decided against the rM2, as the Boox has so much more (non-distracting) functionality. And I love it. As a student I keep it for writing and reading alongside my laptop.
      However, I always wanted to experience the RM as it's writing feel must be so incredible and last week I finally got it. It is simply beautiful! It is gorgeous to feel, writing is very fast and comfortable BUT... the overall functionality is indeed very limiting. Even on the writing side: there are only three lines of thickness for pen styles while the Boox has a scale of thickness, there are no shapes whatsoever, no stroke eraser.
      So I imagine even on these points alone the SN will also be much better than the RM.

      I had been thinking of buying such a device for a while but never committed. Then I got bombarded with Remarkable adverts on TH-cam, which tempted me to look into it and after some research I decided on the Supernote and haven't regretted it.
      The main reason I passed on the Remarkable is that they had just crippled it with a ransom payment system (I think they call it subscription) which if you don't pay various important functions are disabled. However later I realized that even if that wasn't the case the Supernote was still the better choice for many other reasons, it was just that I had never heard about it.

    Couple of critical advantages of supernote over the iPad:
    Battery life is SUBSTANTIALLY greater
    Eye strain and blue light interference is zero
    Visibility outdoors in bright light is incomparably better

    I have the reMarkable tablet, which is very similar to the 10.5" Supernote, but quite a bit cheaper ($299 vs. $415). (In fact. the Supernote looks a lot like the first generation reMarkable. The 2nd generation reMarkable device is much sleeker.) They also have an app that works on MacOS and iOS to access the notes you took on the reMarkable if you want to do more with them. As you mention, these are designed for note taking/organizing and are essentially distraction-free, which is why I like the reMarkable instead of the iPad for that.

    • @DonSchiewerJr
      @DonSchiewerJr ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Not cheaper since the reMarkable you have to pay for a subscription service and buy the pen separately.

    • @bsmith9670
      @bsmith9670 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Per the other comment, cost is about the same when you factor Remarkable's subscription. There are similarities but I chose the Supernote because the manufacturer is very visibly active consulting users on how to improve it, they do that frequently and the handwriting latency on the Supernote is lower.
      I have a colleague who has an RM2 and loves it so I don't think either is a bad choice if you want a device like this.

    • @digitalstew
      @digitalstew ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neither device comes with a pen for the base price. For the "standard" pen on each device, it's $79 for the reMarkable and $99 for the Supernote, making the total cost $378 and $514 respectively for a 10.3" device, so still cheaper for the reMarkable.The first year of the Connect subscription for the reMarkable is free and then is up to $7.99/mo afterward, depending on the features you choose (and it's optional). For the initial cost difference between the two devices, you can buy another year and a half of the Connect subscription before they even out.
      As B Smith notes, neither is a bad choice; it just depends on your needs. But the reMarkable is a solid choice as well.

    Most of the reviewers don't use it extensively to know the draw backs.
    Buy ipad Air.

    I like looking at e-ink tablets... but I just don't think I'll ever need one...
    The "distraction-free" is not so important for me...
    In fact, if I'm studying using my gadgets, then I'm definitely gonna need to be able to access other apps ...
    And it would be so much better if I don't switch between devices... if one tablet is enough to access apps and note taking at the same time, why not?

      If you price out ReMarkable 2 with cover & pen, comes out to similar price. (Not counting the subscription fee, which after huge backlash they slashed, but still $3 or 4/mo. Over time, that will make using it cost more. Their device price is lower, but accessories are higher. Can’t use device without a pen. Theirs are $100-130 ballpark. Cover on ReMarkable is necessary b/c it’s a fragile device. There covers are also more, as I’ve said, bringing complete price to $560ish. Both have slightly cheaper pens & covers, saving only $30-40 bucks. It irks me that ReMarkable “discounts” refurbished model (I think with shorter warranty & no free year of subscription by $20! Seriously, who would take that “deal.”
