Why I quit being a Merchant Seamen? In this video I will break down exactly why I took a 6 month break from TH-cam. In this industry you have to look out for yourself. Nobody has your best interest and you can't trust anyone. It gets lonely at times and mentally draining. With that being said I will be taking a break from Shipping out but there is better things to come for this channel.
Really have enjoyed your candor in all your videos. You've always talked about the Merchant Marine being a stepping stone to all the other things you wanted to do in life. Great to know that time is now and that you are laying the groundwork for new things. Any reflections on your time in the merchant marine are appreciated. A video on getting in from the street would be great. I hope you can take us along on the new adventures in some way but understand if you need to take some time. Best of luck.
Aye I've been watching for months now readying myself for piney point and I really appreciate you being one of the best insiders into the Merchant Seaman, Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for being 100% honest with your subscribers this video is helping me make a decision right now
I’m so sorry nice guys like you, finish last, and after being in the workforce (diverse career fields and retiring from two different jobs) and dealing w selfish people, I’m now self-employed.
Best wishes!
I'd love a video on how to make it without the school. Thanks for the update. You put a lot on my mind bro. Wish you the best!
Man thanks for all the info you have give us.Yes I would love to come off the it's about you bro take your time an live bro. Keep the Most High frist
That’s love 💯💯💯 precite it my guy
Fell upon your video by accident 2 days ago and been binge watching all your videos since. Love your commitment and dedication towards the high seas!!!
Bro, I have a very similar story to yours, I’ve said some of things you said in this video many time. At around 27-28 I stopped sailing for about 4 years, when I came back it was on my terms.. shorter contracts and currently on a rotation month of on/off, ended up working my way up the hawespipe from OS to 2/0… I think they major takeaway from my over 15 years of sailing is make it work for you and not the company.
Dude you are an inspiration more than you know! Cheers from Virginia. Former Army Engineer.
We love you man and what you do as a young man don't quit on us bro
I'm seriously considering getting into this line of work. Thank you for making these videos.
thank you for this insight.
I really appreciate you for being real and for sharing all of this with us. Know that you inspire me to go for it. I know what I wanna do with my money once I have it.
It’s part of the business plan. I need a lot of money. 😂we all do, but that’s why I’m here.
This is the next step.
I’m a nurse. I feel this so deep, I graduated nursing school in 1999, 18 months after I graduated from high school. There are jobs that will slowly steal your soul. I watched people die for 20 years, in one way or another the clock is ticking. I’m 43 and every time I leave my house my brain doesn’t stop assessing the world, “oh look that car has a pacifier sticking out of the trunk” but I forget to feed myself on a regular basis.
Our career is nothing like yours.
I truly understand where you at in life and you need to follow your dreams. I’m in training now and I just want to see how it will work out for me but do you and enjoy life and your family.
How is it
Enjoyed your videos Tre. I wish I could become merchant seamen, but I have bulging disc in my back.
You are correct about looking out for yourself, doesn't matter which industry you are in, you can't trust ANYONE to look out for you.
Did anything else disqualify you
@@crishnaholmes7730 i have inflammatory bowel disease as well
It's like you said, being a MM was always meant to be just a steppingstone on your path. I think you accomplished what you wanted to with it or you'd probably still have plenty of ambition. You just strike me as that type of person. I think you reached your goal with it. Thanks for the educational content from while you were out there. Very helpful.
I completely understand you. I myself want the opposite so I'm glad a friend introduce me this career path. I barely take my phone off silent these days.
Glad your back brother!
Bro i love you man, you really helped me a lot God Bless you 🙏
Thank you 🙏🏽 fam
I feel you bro... You've inspired me so much
I can feel you bro.
Started my cadetship when I was 18. Im 26 and I burned out at the rank 2/0. I know how exactly how you feel. Taking a break now.
Can’t stress enough how much Truth is in this 💯
He really is talking about freeing yourself from things that chained you. Whatever it is, I also freed myself form terrible circumstances, everyone should do too
Definitely need that video of how to go from the street to the ship.
My bday is June 2nd and I feel the same bout my jobs I’m tired of the people not the money and accommodations, been running my own cleaning business for 5 yays and I’m mentally drained so I feel you on this, I didn’t go back to sea because of the bs also.
Same birthday have a great day woe
I been driving trucks for a longtime I really to do this merchant Marine thing for along time you was my inspiration. To get into the game.. wish you well bro
Are you in it now
The thing about being a Merchant Seaman is that most people are not going to do this long term. It’s something that should be done for a short period of time so you can get as much money out of it as possible and use it to either start a business, save, or invest. My uncle was a seafarer cook for 40 years and retired just last year, he viewed it as a career and genuinely liked it. But I would never be able to do it for that long because the job is just not for me. And on the subject of college, so many people talk down on it not realizing that college is definitely worth it as long as you go for something that pays decent. Going to college to pursue history, gender studies, or something like psychology just isn’t worth it, and that’s why people say college isn’t worth it because they don’t do their research first and go for the useless career fields. There are a bunch of 2, 4, or 6 year programs that community colleges and universities offer that can set you up for life once graduated.
Facts 💯 nothing but facts !
I'm just finishing Maritime school for Ship Engineer. My Plan is to do 10-15 years so I can buy a house and start a business.

Mental health is not to be taken lightly. You know your self well enough to know what decision is best for you. And period
i get what ur sayin about missing time. but with a regular job its kind of the same. i work every week and only get about 2 weeks off a year, and some of that has to be saved for emergencies. there's never a period with a regular job where u get to just be a person
Facts bro always gotta have forever goals merchant seaman the vessel to fuel the dream .
i need to know how to go from the street to the ship please
Respect the transparency bro
Currently in piney point cause of you. Channel Into Real Estate! That’s my end plan I refuse to sail all my life
That’s what I’m planning to do.
I'm sorry to hear you're getting out of the industry, but I definitely feel where you're coming from and now you know why I left and decided to try my hand teaching in the industry. There's a lot of sleazy, scuzbags out there who only think about themselves.
Btw...
We need deck instructors.
Are you still in the industry
Dude. I work in a cath lab. We stop heart attacks and strokes. Surgery. Cardiology. I'm at the very top of my profession. But I hate it. I hate how everybody is so egotistical. Including myself. It's turned me into something I don't like. I'm actually heading INTO the marine industry. My needs are a little bit different than yours at this point in my career, but I totally EMPATHIZE with how you feel. The money I make is GREAT. 6 figures. But I'm done with this shit. I want the drudgery of endless work. The open ocean and confined bunk spaces. Zero internet. I saw your next video, where you're showing off your grades. Bro, I applaud you. I'd wish you the "best of luck" but you're out there putting in the work, so the luck will come regardless
Damn your point is interesting. Even top level professionals don’t like their careers at some point. How’s the process for you going now? I’m very curious about your update.

Just so you know, Tre, many of my recent students said they learned about Piney Point through your videos and applied to go because of them.

Can you send the website link to sigh up so I can get started
Im about to get hired at kirby corporation as an tankerman , the schedule there for that is 14 on an 14 off. Have you ever heard about that position if so can you let me know the pros and cons about it?

I would personally love a video about how to get into the merchant marines without going to an academy or something because that is exactly what I plan to do next year when I turn 18. I have watched a youtuber( lady trill) and she talked about getting into MSC like that.
2 questions.
1. Is it better to join MSC instead of SIU right off the bat? I heard MSC has better training.
2. In another of your videos, you talked about the things you always pack, and one of them was a knife. How do you travel with one? I thought sometimes you have to fly to your ship, and I know that your twic card is like a TSA pass, but have you ever had any problems traveling or getting onto ships with one?
Sorry this was long‐winded.
1. MSC is better if you just wanna go straight in & they pay more
2. If you travel with a knife just be sure to put it in your check in bag & It won’t be a problem. Also when you have your twic you can use TSA pre check as well

i feel you. i worked at ups from when i was 18-23 stopped for similar reasons as you. it gave me enough money to pay for school so i am currently in school and enjoying it. going for marine engineering so maybe i can work on a ship sometimes but also have a degree to fall back on and work on land.

@@Tr3TV2022 that too. His dad been sailing for 20+ years and money is great but that doesn’t make up for being a present father. I don’t wanna feel like a single mom.

You ever heard of Bluewater Maritime School down in Jacksonville, Florida?
Been looking at their 3 Week, Specially Trained Ordinary Seamen Program. Was wondering if it would be worth it, and if you think I could land a job after the fact.

My daughter who is about to turn 18 yrs old Jan 2 ‘2022 she is begging me to go to the Paul Hall school I’m so afraid for her safety can you tell me if it is safe for females at the school and on the ships ?
Honestly it’s one of the safest places for females. It’s almost like a boot camp so the have zero tolerance for anything. Also she will be with the females. Although she may have classes with males, her living quarters will be with all females in which is heavily monitored. All the females that I went to school with and even work with on the ship enjoyed there experience at Pall Hall. I think you should let her go. She’ll be able to talk and FaceTime with you everyday.
