Very informative, thank you sir.
Glad it was helpful!
Your videos are very informative about the maritime industry. Thank you for being so detailed about SIU vs MSC. This information will really help folks decide which is better for them.
It's my pleasure
Superb Explanation ❤🔥
You are helping so many people.
That makes it all worthwhile. Thank you for the support.
Great, to the point & pertinent, Thanks for all your efforts!
Thanks for being here.
Really good discussion
Thanks for watching
What is the pool like for MSC? How long are you usually there and where do you live while waiting?
Great vid btw 👍🏼
hey Chief! can you make a video on the various hazards onboard MSC ships? if able, can you elaborate on asbestos exposure and containment on ships? engine room and deck side safety and health hazards? common injuries? and lastly, how health care and dental care works when deployed? loving all the videos!!

I always heard SIU was Better But The Way You Explained I Caught The Gist That MSC was Better.....
Better is all perspective. Thanks for watching.
I dont see any real benefit to SIU. I watched some TH-camrs say its better, but I think its based on the job. IT vs Cook, would be a totally different experience I guess.
💯
You bring up a bunch of good points about union vs MSC. However, there are a couple of things everyone should be aware of about MSC. First off, unless you are a wiper/supply utility/OS, your hitch will almost always be longer than 120 days. They are more than happy to let you sit down n that boat and pay the pittance that is the penalty. I saw a Chief Electrician on my boat sit for a year overdue, and I’m not joking. So if you need defined time off, the union contract is better. Second, it is softer at MSC. That means that when you’re busting your rear end, and someone isn’t pulling their weight, they probably aren’t going to get penalized. MSC is really bad about discipline, and it results in some really bad actors being able to skate through the company.
Good stuff. Thanks for sharing 👍
You mentioned a way to advance beyond entry level Utilityman to either Ordinary Seaman or Wiper is training through MSC. Is their training prior to being hired by MSC to qualify as Wiper or Ordinary Seaman?
Would you please make a video on how or where to find jobs as an Ordinary seaman? (I got my TWIC & MMC) but I have no idea where to start? There’s so many terms, boats & endorsements. I don’t know what I’m able to work on as an OS.
I don’t have a preference I just want to make decent pay & get sea time.
th-cam.com/video/mxVXWbzegew/w-d-xo.html Thanks for asking. 💯
So does the pay end up being the same anyway or does SIU pay more due to the vacation pay?
Thank you for helping me to decide on which organization to attend. How long is school and while at school can you go home on the weekend? When I went to MSC job fair the recruiters said the rotation is 4/2 is that true? Can I have a goatee while on a ship or does it depend on the captain or ship?
if i was at the same MSC fair as you were the recruiter had a helluva beard 😂 i hear you do have to shave to comply with OSHA gas mask requirements but i have seen MSC post pictures recently of bearded deck watch standers so it may be up to the captain. as for the rotation, they just changed it from 4/1 to 4/2, but in order to meet that two month off time they have to hire a lot more people, which they don’t have right now. So if you do join, don’t be surprised if it’s closer to 5/1 or 6/1.
@@OfficialFriendzone I know MSC is a federal job but I have applied numerous times and still keep getting not selected. Maybe they need to not take so much time to approve someone. I have have 7 years of sea time through my time in the Navy. How can I get those years counted for?
@@The1stAvengeri just got out of the navy after 9 years, and i have about 5 years sea time. trying to figure this out as well. i know im your DD114 it has your total sea service time
does prior service bypass the apprentice program and get a b book if former Navy ?
Not that I am aware of. However, depending on rate, rank and sea time, you may be able to start out as a AB vice OS.
I was a D book. I could only work casino boats!

@@thewanderingmariner any time!
I know this sounds stupid but i feel like joining MSC would be my personal way of serving my country. I dont know if there is any merit to that just an observation going into the maritime world myself.
Hi Sean,Your observation makes a lot of sense and definitely has merit. Joining the Military Sealift Command (MSC) can be seen as a way to serve your country by supporting naval operations and ensuring the logistical needs of the Navy are met. Many people who transition into the maritime world, especially those with a background in service, find a similar sense of purpose and contribution. It's a unique and valuable way to continue serving, even outside of traditional military roles. Good luck on your maritime journey!

Is it hard to get a job as a c book ?
It can be.... depending on how many ships are available and the pool you sail out of.
@@thewanderingmariner I’m out of Houston would you recommend still going for it for Siu ?I take my STcw class next week
SIU is garbage the people coming out of the halls are lazy and not worth a damn
That's a perspective! 😆
