    Your extra chain ring bolt and nut are for the blind hole behind the crank. It's a press fit nut so you only need one wench to tighten the bolt behind crank arm.

    Yes, I've just today ordered a 38T to replace my 42T. I find that cross winds make it quite difficult to go flat out anyway, and I'm mostly commuting into London (England), where the hills are rather dramatic.

      Hey mate, how are you getting on with your 38T? What are the pros and cons? Do you get enough speed on it when peddling from traffic light to traffic light?
      I live in London also. I'm new to biking. I'm on a 32T right now, but it's a bit too slow for me now that I am used to it. I was thinking about going to a 38T or getting a 40T and new wider bottom bracket.

      The London I know is relatively flat so you may want the 40T front chainring. If you, like me, seek out hills on your rides then the 38T is a great compromise between low end and top speed. I think either would be sufficient as they are relatively close. Best of luck.

    Nice video…..if you either lock the rear derailleur clutch or remove the chain it would be much easier to remove the chainring.

    The best combination that i use 1x12..10-50..in coggs 38chainring ..uphill ok..in flat more ok..

    Thank you. That was so easy. I think I can carry 52t to 32t half a dozen crank.. haha. You never needed 42t cassette? I am in LA, and I worry more about larger cassette for climb.. I think I will definiately go for a apex.. but deore xt or eagle setup looks better here.

    Hi, I love your video. I have a quiestion, Did you used the same chain? Where I live there are very few hills and I want to get more speed. I have a (1 x 12) 11-50 38t chainring. I would like to get a 40t or 42t chainring. Would I need a longer chain? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have never used the 50( just not hilly enough) I was thinking maybe a 46t but that might be to big. Thanks

    Did u have to shorten chain?

    • @ChasingtheTwist
      @ChasingtheTwist  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. The change wasn’t significant enough to require it.

    Will a 4 tooth decrease in frt chainring in conjunction with a 4 tooth increase in rear result in needing a longer chain? I have a Force1 1x setup if that helps.

    • @ChasingtheTwist
      @ChasingtheTwist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like they would offset themselves, at least in the larger rear cogs. Make sure your derailleur hanger/arm is long enough for the larger rear cassette. Best of luck.

      @@ChasingtheTwist force1 med cage with a 11-36 cassette is 👍. Frt ring us a 38t. Wanted better climbing gears without buying new derailleur so I went with just a new cassette and chainring. Gonna be able to sit and spin the longer climbs now!

    What tool did you use to the get the bolts out of the rear of the chainset? Thanks

    • @ChasingtheTwist
      @ChasingtheTwist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t need to touch the rear cassette or mechanisms for this. You would need a cassette tool and a chain whip to get the rear cassette off. There are a few types though so be sure you buy the correct cassette tool for your cassette. Best of luck.

    Hi thanks for this useful video! Can I get your opinion please?
    I bought a new Mountain Bike and use it primarily for city commuting, exercise and going to the park occasionally.
    I have a 1 x 10, 32T chainring with 11/42T cassette. The gearing is 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32-38-42.
    As my legs have gotten stronger I have realized the 32T chainring is now too slow for me, especially when I am bombing it down hills.
    What is the biggest chainring I can get please? I am considering a 38T chainring, but I am wondering if I should go for a 40T?
    Many thanks for your input! (",)

      That really depends on frame clearance and chain length. I can’t speak to frame clearance but going to a 38t from a 32t will likely mean you need a new longer chain. Best of luck.

    • @darkknight17
      @darkknight17 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChasingtheTwist oh for sure. Chains are pretty cheap too, like £20-£25. Do you feel a 38T is the best all rounder?

    • @ChasingtheTwist
      @ChasingtheTwist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think 38t is a great compromise. Especially with your huge 42 rear sprocket the 38t will be great. As I’m sure you understand, the 32t chain ring is really only useful for pretty steep climbs. Best of luck.

      @@ChasingtheTwist I appreciate the input. I'm a newbie, I've bought a bad ass hardtail MTB after reading endless reviews and watching endless videos. It's probably only available on Europe. It's called the Lapierre Edge AM 728. It's black with fluorescent yellow decals. Trust me when I tell you I see grown men and women checking it out. It is fiyahh 🔥
      I thought I had the perfect bike and it's almost perfect but I think I might need to upgrade to more road friendly wheels and definitely a larger chainring. I'll get the 38T. I remember the 32T on the 11 tooth cog was tiring my ass out the first few weeks. I want to be able to use the rest of the cassette and have more peddling power which I hope the 38T will allow me to do. I guess going up from 32T to 38T will be like having 3 extra gears I'm guessing?
      I'm also going to stiffen the front air shock so it bobs up and down less when peddling hard with the shock Locked Out. That should give me more speed and flexibility too.

    Wonderful video! I’ve just changed my 11/28 to 11/32 today. But i had problems when changing to the 32. Few solutions were suggested, but the technician told me insisting to put in a goatlink instead. Wonder how do you make your setup?

    • @ChasingtheTwist
      @ChasingtheTwist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This all depends on the length of your rear derailleur cage. Manufacturers make cages of differing lengths. Shorter ones may not reach larger sprockets. A product like the goatlink allows for the use of shorter cages with larger sprockets. Best of luck.
