However, she does not lord this over him or disrespect him either, not publically or privately. She may not always agree with him, but she always has his back.
They were the best. I hate they didn't use that part for the story outside of the comics, because it's essential for Damian's development that Dick was the first one to train him rather than Bruce. Just like Bruce, Damian needed Dick to keep him from the darkness.
As a testament to Batman's parenting, when a Superman of another Earth was trying to convince Batman to join him to replace the current Earth as it has become "too dark and less heroic", Bruce only asked one question, "Was Dick Grayson a worst man on my Earth than he was in yours?". This alternate Superman had to agree that Grayson was as good and heroic (maybe better) on this Earth as he was on the alt Earth. This gave Batman the right push to fight for his current Earth's survival (source: Infinite Crisis)
That was the original Superman...who had forgotten who he was...because he'd been hanging around Alexander Luthor too much, same with Superboy-Prime. Superboy-Prime wanted to have fun again and live happily ever after and so did the original Superman, but the whole mess was started simply because Alexander Luthor was bored so he decides to ask Superboy-Prime if he wants to play a new game...called "Does Superboy want to be a villain?" Superboy-Prime ever over-eager while being down in the dumps agrees...and drinks villain-soda.
That exchange where Dick is like, “Damian I’m not interrogating; just taking an interest,” and Damian just pauses and is like, “Oh.” Is so fucking wholesome because it implies a lot about what Damian typically gets from Batman, which is controlling tendencies focused on permission. Damian is like, “Hey, maybe my brother really isn’t my dad, he’s something cool that I don’t have to constantly compete with for authority over my life.” It’s very wholesome and shows why Dick is the best character. I love him so much.
It’s totally okay to be introverted but make sure u define what the means, and introverted person doesn’t need to be an isolated person, introversion means you gain emotional energy from being in a more comfortable intimate environment such as your room, and house. You can be social and be an introvert it’s just being aware when that social battery is running low! Self awareness is key. You’ve got this!
There’s nothing wrong with introversion! Be what you like! But there’s also no denying that building bonds with healthy people and have healthy relationships is very beneficial to anyone
And that is literally what a hero is supposed to do, inspire people and give them hope. That’s why Batman said his biggest achievement was Dick Grayson
I love how you mention and state the fact that Dick is also a big brother figure, not just a leader or a fighter, he plays a important role in many of the titans characters stories, be platonic or romantically.
When we talk about "toxic masculinity" is not that all masculinity is toxic. Is just that certain imposed aspects that btw also make men miserable. There is not a single or correct way to "be a man". There is nothing wrong with showing feelings or expressing vulnerability, etc.
The fact that there are now more villain based shows out or shows coming out than there are about the parts of the Batfamily that aren’t Batman or characters like Nightwing who actually deserve a show
Even thought Bruce Wayne/ Batman didn't really have the potential to fully become an integrated man/ individual, he was nonetheless able to raise one with Robin/ Dick Grayson. He knew what to pass on to his adpoted son to help him succeed him as a hero and as a man, and what to protect him from so that he didn't become a repeat of himself, or something even worse.
I had this massive crush on Dick Grayson when I was a preteen, and he's still one of my favorites DC characters. I can picture various formations of the Titans, but I can't picture one Dick's not in it. I also don't understand why some people try to make him the heir of the Batman mantle, he's not Batman, and that's not a bad a thing at all.
It's not that he isn't this own hero. It's that he is the natural heir of the Batman family because honestly he is a better hero than Bruce. Bruce, for all that he sacrifices, is such a flawed man. He took in those kids so they wouldn't become that scared kid who doesn't really know happiness. Now don't get me wrong neither man would be who they become without Pennyworth.

Fantastic video essay, I find the discussion around Masculinity such an important conversation to have in our current social climate. Society changes often and to not lose yourself within that change is videos and discussions like this.
The Ninja Turtles would be fun to go over, each of them in their own video or analyzing each of them in one video. For my entire life it's been hard to pick a favorite, I've strongly related to all of them at different points and I'm very similar to the Turtles without even trying to be, likely from growing up with them since I was too young to remember.
i think what makes Nightwing such a fan favourite (and Bruce's as well) is the fact that we as a generation grew up with him, watching him grow from Robin to Nightwing and his journey to step away from being Batman's side-kick. Even more, i think its his Eldest-brother syndrome and his constant care for the other bat siblings which make him someone who challenges masculinity. theres this issue where a grown up Dick asks Bruce why he adopted Jason and Tim but not him; and he tries to be this constant companion for the other Robins in ways that Bruce (just in his 20s) couldnt be for him
Love this channel, it really challenges, my preconceived, notions and beliefs…I may not initially agree with everything you present, it really challenges me to think outside my box
hey, thank you for this video about one of my favorite characters! your thoughtful, measured analysis gave me a whole new appreciation for dick grayson. i also appreciate seeing content creators out there shining a light on positive representations of masculinity. it's a gap that desperately needs to be filled.
I’d like to see you tackle JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure one day. Possible characters include Jonathan, Dio, Jotaro, Joseph, or even Bruno. The Pillar Men are interesting characters to explore too. But other than that, great video as always!
THIS. For a while, I’ve considered this concept: What is a man actually supposed to be/do? A man is meant to be strong yet gentle like Jonathan Joestar A man is meant to be smart, clever and tactical yet allowed to express his emotions and be vulnerable like Joseph Joestar A man is supposed to act with justice, not using their power to dominate the weak, but using their power to protect the weak and take down the evil, like Jotaro Kujo A man is meant to be compassionate and prioritise family and community like Josuke Higashikata A man is supposed to have ambition but also temper that ambition with honour and care like Giorno Giovanna
I know this is mostly Nightwing centered (which i totally agree, i love him so much, he's amazing) but it says a lot about Batman's character how he fully saw himself reflected in Richard and instead of taking the boy in the same path as him, he worked into trying him to be, not just a better version of Batman, but be his best person, to understand his own lackings and try for Richard to be better than that.
Nightwing is my favorite character from DC, what I like about him the most is what I saw in the Gotham Knights game(I think it was there), he's everything you said in the video AND he even destroys the concept that bisexual men are not "masculine enough" or "less man that a straight man", he displays every quality you've shown in this great video and even adds this cool and much needed representation. (and everyone talking about how he has a huge ass is so fcking funny).

What issue is this? I wanna read it
Taking care of Dick and watching him grow into a great person is one of the few things Bruce can be proud of doing while just being Bruce Wayne.
To hear Batman say he's proud of Dick Grayson was definitely one of Dick's biggesr dubs
Why would he say that? Is he stupid?
