Nightwing is kind, compassionate, and caring. He's not afraid of being vulnerable, or emotional. A lot of who Dick Grayson is would be considered feminine in certain ways. But that's the thing. Being masculine is also being comfortable with being feminine, just like being feminine is being comfortable with being masculine. I'm someone who was raised by an indifferent mother who allowed me to be who I wanted to be, and as a result I was able to explore both my feminine and masculine sides as a human being, and it's made me extremely open minded and considerate of others. A lot of boys who are raised by good men who aren't toxic and hyper fixated on toxic misogynistic characteristics, grow up to be great men. Same thing for women who were raised by great mothers. Same thing for any kind raised by great parents. There's nothing weak about a man who explore their softness. There's nothing weak about being masculine while exploring their own feminity. The fear of emasculation is only a sign of weakness. That's what makes Dick Grayson an admirable character from both sexes. Dick Grayson would fight with and for you, and Dick Grayson would cry with and for you. He'd let a kid paint his nails and braid his hair. He'd also readily beat up anyone who would harm a child. Masculinity and admirable men are who Dick Grayson is as a person. The lack of drive or care to be masculine or to prove masculinity. Just being oneself without the fear of emasculation.

Hey bro, great video! Here is a suggestion, I feel would totally capsulate masculinity and man's/hero's journey is the character Hell boy. If you haven't read any Hello boy comics, I encourage you to read the first 7 volumes of Mike Mignola's breath taken story. I very much enjoyed your video essay. I’d like to point out two mistakes at the the beginning: - Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman is in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns. The Bat-nipples first appeared in Joe Schumacher’s Batman Forever in the scene where Nicole Kidman‘s character, Dr. Chase Meridian mentions them and then rubs them.

Nolan's Batman is far less masculine than Frank Miller's archetypal Batman, it was an intentional emasculation of the character. He's dominated and humiliated by women throughout the trilogy, be it Rachel, Talia and Selina. He quits after just a year or less, having trained for 7 years previously and is then a recluse for 8 years after. Nolan's Batman is also heavily dependent on his father figures; Alfred, Gordon and Fox. He doesn't want to be Batman really, it's not his eternal mission or purpose. It's subordinate to his personal desires and he throws it away when the going gets tough.

Id like to point out that even though the other heroes and villains kinda look down upon him, they all crap bricks when hes genuinely angry and stops joking. When hes so mad he stops pulling his punches and shows his actusl strength which could one shot a sizeable amount of heroes and villains. I find another masculine trait is Spider-man is an absolute monster, yet he knows how to tame it. But when its unleashed when his loved ones are in danger, he becomes a one man army

I don’t really like it when people present Jason talking back to batman (when he was robin) as a precursor to his more ruthless attitude as the Red Hood. because all the robins talked back to batman, especially Dick and Damian. if you just took their runs as robins and analysed those, I don’t think any of them would stand out as more rebellious or violent as the others, it seems to be the circumstances that end their runs as robin that sets them each apart
