Rescued juvenile flying-fox in care: this is Foveaux on day of rescue

- Apologies for the poor camera aim for this video; I deleted an awful lot of footage of the cute bits because the bat was out of the frame; oops. You should get the gist of the story though.
This is Foveaux, a juvenile flying-fox who was rescued when she crash landed on an internal balcony courtyard of an inner city boutique development; as with most internal courtyard entrapments, there were multiple roof levels near a large street tree, which I think confuses the bats; they fly off in one direction and find themselves stuck in a dead end with no way to clear the roofline.
She has smacked her head and I think she's paralysed with fear over her situation and being so young, she just has no idea what has happened and how her life went so wrong.
Don't worry, Foveaux's story ends well: I have another video of or 2 of her time in care, but the footage isn't edited yet.
YAY, a survivor.
Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).

Mention Megabattie or Meg in the PayPal message box and the money will find its way to me.
If no message box appears, please email Jenny to tell her that the money is for me.
IMPORTANT: If you pay through the PayPal Giving Fund, can you please email Jenny with the AMOUNT DONATED and the name under which you have donated, OR just forward along the PP receipt.
The Giving Fund doesn’t charge any fees (so the bats get more money) but PP doesn’t itemise out the amount, they just send a total every month, and we don’t know if the money is for Tolga or for Megabattie.
Here’s Jenny’s email.

Your setup for the little ones seems so soothing . They don't look frightened all wrapped up like a papoose. It doesn't mean they can't have an attitude 🙄 sometimes. The web of life is most fortunate to have you around! ❤❤
Poor wee thing seems so frightened. I hope she’ll be able to relax and enjoy the care and pampering ❤️
Foveaux looks pretty "Fluffy" and healthy for a young bat but she does seem paralyzed by fear. I'm glad she is doing well in care.😊
Always love seeing a survivor ❤ So grateful for all you guys do! These wonderful souls are so precious and a treasure for pollinators! So beautiful as a plus 😊
Meg you’re absolutely amazing! The way you care for those beautiful furry babies is so heartwarming! Thank you so much! I love you and I love all your batty babies! God bless you!
Happy to see Foveaux is a survivor! Nice to have a win! ☮️💜🦇
Thank you, Meg, for your loving, skillful care of these sweet babies! And thank you for sharing the happy & sad endings.
I really like caring for the batties and I love to share my passion.
Aw she looks so confused about what’s going on. She’s a pretty girl and I’m so pleased to hear she is a survivor 😊
Yeah so happy to have a survivor
First one today to wish precious baby the best.
She's such a sweet little girl! Poor Foveaux has smacked herself into next Tuesday! Thank you SO MUCH for saying her story ends well. ❤
Always great to see that these sweet sky pups survive!!!!♥️🦇♥️🦇♥️🦇♥️
Yay, a happy ending ❤ thank you Meg and team. She is so beautiful. Sending love and prayers for a speedy recovery ❤❤❤
She seems super shy or terrified. I hope she continues to do well in care. She’s very beautiful!! 💕🦇💕🦇💕🦇💕🦇
I love you and the batties!
Foveaux is so sweet. I hope she's able to realize that she's very safe with Meg ❤
She is chunky and gorgeous!!🥰❤️🦇🇨🇦
Lovely little girl. Thanks Meg.
Awwwww! ❤ She looks so cute at 3:20 hanging over the cage edge with her ankles crossed. So sweet. ❤🦇🇨🇦
OMG Meg...when you hung her on the gray blanket, I had a flashback to Johnny Depp hanging in a closet in Dark Shadows! 🤣🤣Foreaux certainly is cute....wide eyed and slightly twitching her ears at you! . Happy for a survivor! 😇❤️🖤🦇🖤❤️
HI Patti
I haven't watched movies for quite some time (I think since 1978 or so), so I don't know specifically to what you're referring, but I get the idea.
Such beautiful shiny marble eyes ✨
Meg, I hate to ask, but I noticed the little one on your counter, that was wrapped in a tiny pink blanket with a yellow ribbon. Is that one of the batties who didn’t survive? If so, my hat’s off to you even more than before, for your unceasing love and care for these animals. The beautiful burial wrap speaks volumes about how you care for the bats even in death.
Hugs from Lynn in Hallsville, Missouri USA
She looked so cosy, wrapped up in unicorn. Nice round tummy on her, they love your voice Meg
Foveaux is beautiful!!🩶🦇🦄🤗💕 When I see "YAY, a survivor" in your description, my heart feels happy!💓 I do realize once Adrian returns from his: "making a chair episode"😂, Foveaux will have her exam and X-ray(s).🥰
It has been done, it's just that I got sidetracked putting up Linti's rescue and subsequent xray. Linti got xrayed earlier than Foveaux because she was urgent; Adrian was away so I got Lydia to sort it out as an emergency; Foveaux's xray wasn't urgent, just a check she hadn't smashed anything inconvenient so it could wait.
Yay, a survivor! Poor little thing, currently so scared.
Good luck Foveaux💕👍🦇
Thanks for the happy update.
Very Cute Baby Foveaux💞….Meg, your Loo looks like a baby’s 😅nursery with all the wipes,& nappy pail 😀 luv the rainbow unicorn 🌈
I've got about 5 unicorns now, or 6, in various sizes and various colours. I did a country op shop crawl about 6 weeks ago and scored bid on cheap plushies.
@@Megabattie well, they sure are FUN!! I have a 3 stuffed animals ( they do nothing but sit around, lol) but I like them, I have “lamb chops” a possum, and a sloth ( I fell in love with sloths 🦥when I was in Costa Rica) …..they all make me happy,,,,I need more 👍
@@francesfarmer736 I was never a stuffed toy person; I'm still not, but I am an aficionado of what the babies like and they like the limp plushies which are of a certain fur or texture
When you run the tap it works for me! Whenever I see a batty hung up I get the Elton John song running through my head - “… I’m Still Hanging, yeah yeah yeah…”
I’m so glad to hear little Foveaux is a survivor, I think I know hoe she feels this day…and I SO am in need of a happy ending. She is a darling, and her life has changed all in a moment completely. Don’t worry Foveaux…we will find a new balance together.🥂🖤🇨🇦
I have another video just being edited, almost ready to upload, so Foveaux will be starring tomorrow as well. I'll answer your email tomorrow.
@@Megabattie,
I looked online, but I can’t find Hirudoid in the US. Do you think it’s safer to order it from Australia or Germany? They’re slightly different.
@@SuziQ. Short and long story: I don't know.
❤❤
She has such a beautiful Battie face! I noticed her middle looked like she had swallowed an apple whole... could she be pregnant or too young for that?😮❤
Far too young Eleni. She's only about 4 months old; she looked chubby but wasn't much over lowest healthy weight; it's just because she has hunched legs that she doesn't look long and lean and loose legged.
🙂
Yay for a survivor. Thank you, Meg. 💙
Will you show us Batzilla’s bat doll, up close (and Adrian’s chair, if possible)?
LOL I probably won't see Adrian's chair, however he showed me a pic of it so I might have that captured on video.
Batzilla's doll looks just like a baby Black. I actually threw it to Maggie once and she freaked out and nearly dropped it
@@Megabattie ,
I would love to see photos of both. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Community post? 💙
5:22 wow, as soon as you let them go the feet come after your hand, so fast. Do the bats have 360° vision? She got your hand without looking! A good vision aid for your warning about not going too close to bats.
Also, I have heard the barbs on the claws mentioned very often but can't find pictures, can you link or show an enlarged image? I'd be very interested (very likely never going to even see a megabat in person).
Also so happy to see a survivor after the last few videos! Love seeing her radar-dish ears.
Hi Snarl
She didn't come after my hands; she just wanted to hook her feet into something stable and was groping around for something secure.
They don't have 360º vision; they have binocular vision and see well during the day, and excellently at night (because they have tapeta in their eyes (reflectors like cats and night-active animals)
I can post a pic of the babies' claws on the community page but I don't think I've taken a pic of normal batty feet unless there was an issue; I'll see what I've got.
I love their feet which, to me, are sculpturally perfect and functional appendages.
Some bats don't survive and the bats' survival outcomes are something over which I have no control, other than mitigating damage as best I can; if a bat has an accident and injury which will cause their death, there is generally nothing I can do about it after rescue. I can mitigate and maximise their chances, but I can't reverse the damage already done.
@@Megabattie Thanks.
Yeah, I guessed it wasn't aimed, just meant they can get you faster than you could ever react, even if you knew it was coming.
@@Snarlacc not exactly; they telegraph their moves before they initiate the action which gives me time to react.
I don't really worry about them grabbing at me with their feet; they can scratch but generally just grab for security.
If you understand how bats move and react to things you can keep yourself positioned to react to them to keep yourself safe.
@@Megabattie I get that, but there likely are very few in the general population who have as much experience as you do! 😁
I personally would not risk it, throw something like a towel over to catch it and wait for someone. To be on the other side, calling someone to collect a wild animal (baby) from you, is very strange. You just feel like you are doing nothing and wonder what will happen. Especially since the person who does this where I live also collects roadkill you wonder what they'll do. (No megabats, but blackbird chicks because the crows seem to hate these quite specifically and go after them with a vengence).
Very cool to see behind the curtain a bit.
🦇😍🙏
I'd like to see Adrian make a chair, but I guess that would be another channel.
LOL he showed me a pic of his chair; he had to bend the wood to do it, and said it took him 6 days to make one chair.
@@Megabattie,
Will he show us the chair? Bentwood is beautiful.
😀
Foveaux probably realizes you're helping her, so she'll come around. For now, she's enjoying Meg's B&B, Bats and Bruises. She is quite a rotund girl...could she be pregnant?
SHe's only 4 months old, far too early to become pregnant; she actually only looks rotund - it's because she's hunched up with her legs all hunched, not long and loose.
Is that another bat wrapped up on the counter?
LOL it's a needle felted baby bat doll; it's Batzilla's and I borrowed it for a couple of nursing home bat talks, along with the bat wings from Tolga. I like to look the part.
I love your bat wings.
@@SuziQ. I"ll have to make myself some, because I have to return the Tolga wings after my next talk in a few weeks.
