Megabattie rescue daily life: not all rescues are "successful"

- Rescue 1: it's not often that I can say a little juvenile batty gets the better of me, but The Escapee succeeded in escaping and flying off; let's hope the little one was fine; his flight wasn't spectacular but he seemed to wing off lazily without particular effort. It was only about a kilometre (as the bat flies) from the colony, and it was a guava tree he was in, availing himself of the buffet by taking one or 2 bites out of many almost ripe guavas, which didn't endear him to the very tolerant MOPs.
Rescue 2: Danny Boy had been hanging out on a trellis for 12 hours, in a suburban villa development; the MOP reported him to be alert and watching him, but when I arrived he was dead. He was very skinny and had been doing it tough for a few weeks; his injuries were consistent with a previous entanglement in netting, resulting in grazing and membrane injuries which had healing edges. This boy had been trying to survive for weeks with these injuries (as evidenced by the amount of healing and scarring).
RIP Mr Danny Boy; sorry I didn't get to rescue you earlier, even if all I could have given you was a painless death.
Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).

So much for the first one being a juvie, who was no match for you. Every once in a while, you get out foxed by a flying fox. Hope he was healthy enough to survive.
I netted him, he just escaped the net because I didn't think he would even try; usually they get a bit tangled in the net and can't immediately free themselves.

Milk crates are useful to keep in the car. My Lab is probably going to need one as a step stool.

I have too many things in my car to add a milk crate which doesn't collapse. I do usually have a small step ladder but it got taken out sometime and I haven't put it back in again, or if I have, it's underneath a million things.
