As Miss Scarlett grows, she is enjoying more frequent interactions with her surrogate mum as well as spending more time practicing flapping.
Tummy fur is growing rapidly and in a fortnight or so, Miss Scarlett will be able to regulate her own body temperature.
Baby flying-foxes are born with a bare tummy and this allows them to absorb heat from their mothers body.
Around the same time that Scarlett begins to thermo regulate, her tiny recurved milk teeth will fall out and be replaced with 34 permanent teeth.
Surprisingly and although more widely spaced, flying-fox teeth are not dissimilar in appearance to canine teeth and flying-foxes sport a fairly impressive set of chompers including 4 long, sharp canines that are used to hold and carry fruit away from fruiting trees where competition for food resources can be high.
There is lots ahead for Miss Scarlett but for now, she is enjoying five bottles per day, a cozy warm bed and lots of sun time and cuddles from mum.
.....and thanks to Daisy the Bat Dog for alerting us to the non existent threat of a large blue tongue lizard cruising past the front door!

@mallikea7320 because bats are constantly attached to their mothers teat when they are not weaned. This is supposed to emulate their mothers teat so they don't get aggressive/stressed so in a sense, yes it is a pacifier.

I was noticing the same thing. It is hard to imagine that the thin membrane between the bat's "fingers" is actually alive and is part of the bat's body. I immediately gravitate to the wings. What a perfect example of a living form so perfectly fitted to its function as the bat's wings are to the bat. Fascinating. I have always wanted a pet bat but as I grew older the realization of having to deal with the waste, the feeding, the overall caring and the plain wrongness of having such a creature in captivity later persuaded me to settle for a dog. Noodles, the rescue puppy that grew to a 100 pound dog, and myself have a happy coexistence.
Why? They look like little puppies with wings. Nearly all eat insects like mosquitoes that are harmful to humans or fruit. So what's there to be afraid of? Think of the wings as bird wings with no feathers. Have you ever seen a parrot that has pulled out all of its feathers. Now that is a scary looking creature. Much more so than any bat or its wings. The wings appear as perfect in form and function.

The only thing that makes bats "scary" is their abnormally long and thin fingers, with thin skin surrounding them. Other than that, they're pretty cute.

The wing design of bats and flying-foxes are stunning. That wing design is perfect in every sense of the word. And bats are so cute they are also perfect. To be able to nurture these lovely creatures back to health and be able to see them fly off when you finally get to release them back in to the wild it have to be so rewarding.

the wings/skin looks so fragile - im sure its sturdier than i think but what happens it the wild if they get a tear or a severe puncture. are they f*&ed or can it self repair?
Just thought the very same thing. I also thought about some asshole potentially cutting into them with scissors... I don't know why...
Bat wings are elastic and repair themselves really well over time.
You can 'glue' them together again, however,it is probably safer and healthier to let them repair themselves properly over time, just give them some TLC and they will be right as rain in no time.
Thank you for clearing that up. In the wild even a sprain can starve you if you cant hunt/mobilize, so its comforting to know these guys aren't perma-screwed if the wing is damaged :)
I think they are lose but sturdy, and can heal from little cuts, just like male's ballsack skin.
