My in laws have a Model 3 with FSD. The garage they park in is quite tight so when I’m driving their vehicles, I uses those forward and back arrows to pull into and out of their garage with zero issues. If you have it lined up properly outside the garage it has no problem going into the garage.
As a Canadian, I appreciate the distance conversion. (I find it funny how you go from cm to mm to metres lol, like you’re covering all your bases.) However, we’re ok with you just using inches and feet since it’s still small enough for us to relate to. It’s when you get up to Miles that you should use Kilometres for us. Not sure how it is for the rest of the world, but feet and inches we’re ok with. Thanks!
In my non-professional opinion, it seems obvious you would want the car to have 0 blind spots. At the same time, let me grab a waymo or cruise and try these same tests 🤷
@@DirtyTesla I think a big difference is the FSD "forgets" whats infront of its bumper. Likely the Waymo doesn't forget things that go into its blindspots. Fixable, but would require a large change to how it handles sentry/being asleep, etc
@JLars It is not about forgetting. The car is acting in a dynamic environment. Even if it remembers that there was an empty space in front of the car on arrival, a few minutes later a dog could start resting on the ground and the last memory about the empty space and the "free to go" signal is not reliable anymore.

Considering that SUVs in particular are causing accidents in parking garages to increase significantly because the immediate surroundings cannot be seen, it is not surprising that automated systems have a similar problem

Occasional car washes and rain have been more than enough to keep it clean. It seems Tesla is bringing this feature back as well, with both the Cybertruck and the upcoming Cybercab.

Obviously the car needs a front bumper camera ASAP , and we may get that with the model Y refresh, hope the model 3 X and S get it soon after! I wouldn‘t even be surprised if in certain countries the car ISNT allowed to drive alone, because it has that Blindspot where it Obvjectivley doesnt see anything!
Sometimes I don’t understand Tesla. We weren’t denying that front bumper sensor may be not necessary but we all knew that front camera needed a front bumper camera… sigh A front bumper camera makes so much more sense

I think at the time they said it had to do with fender benders, so small accidents like that wouldn’t mess with FSD and to make them easier to repair without sensors. I still think USS are worth it though.

I can’t for the life of me understand why Tesla from the get go refused to put a front bumper camera. I’m glad the CT has one now but it’s been such a bonehead decision to not utilize one for years on all their vehicles

I don't blame Chris for Tesla holding back releases. He points out both pros and cons. If it's not ready, Tesla should hold it back. I'm glad 12.4 never went wide because it genuinely looked like a downgrade and I'm glad we held out for 12.5. If ASS risks causing damage to my car by hitting curbs or slamming the emergency brakes unnecessarily, I would rather wait for it to be safe before unwittingly exposing my car to risk.
Hi Chris, I have a suggestion for an FSD video. My thought is to go back to your very first version of Beta and do a super cut of each iteration since. Maybe just UPLs through out the ages. Or pedestrian interactions. I think people would find it interesting to see how it has gone from “oh shit!” to “oh wow!”
they really should have a camera in the front bumper, kinda surprising they don't have it double covered. forward visibility is most important in any car, imo. CT has it..
the fact it will move forward even when it cannot reverse to check the blind spot is not ok. It doesn't even back up enough for the entire blind spot ffs. Needs a bumper camera or sensors. Unacceptable.
@@RicardoPereira-pk3py the distances at which you can use it and the typical use case being a parking lot means that you will likely not have direct line of sight with the vehicle nor will you have the visibility required to know there isn't a toddler/cement barrier or other obstruction in front of your car. Making the user of the flawed feature responsible for it is a cop-out.
@@juliahello6673 no, I walk towards my car and can see if there is something in front. As I get in I can see if someone walks towards the front. If all else fails, say I am distracted, or for some reason approach from the back but pull out going forwards and don't look, my current car has parking sensors that would trigger automatic braking; a safety feature they started adding to cars like 20 years ago. An automated system cannot have this kind of blindspot and just ignore it.
The car is not autonomous. Person is still in control and has obligation to check same as if they were in the car. I don’t usually back up to drive forward.
I used to use the summon at home a lot. Nice to just pull the car out of the garage when I need space to work. It was removed and I have missed it and ready for it to return.

Tesla never should have gotten rid of the ultrasonic sensors. My 2019 Model 3 Performance (which has ultrasonic sensors) doesn't do the "reversing for visibility" thing when using summon. It would be interesting to see summon testing done side-by-side with an ultrasonic sensor equipped Tesla vs. your car... assuming you had access to one.
The front bumper is not the only blind spot: the area under the front wheels is not covered as well, right? In this case it could scratch the wheels while doing the summon (maybe this is what sometimes happens with the FSD while turning)

I have a pretty steep driveway (30-40 degree incline?) which dumb summon rejects. Do you know if Actually Smart Summon is comfortable with steep inclines/declines?
Pets and wildlife could be the height of that box (but could probably evade). Amazon packages might be more at risk. Or child toys, or child bikes or scooters on their side. Deer jumping out at the last moment is a thing where I live.

I'm so impressed that it barely sees the handle bars and does not go. Considering everything the camera is looking at while driving, it knows to not go because of two tiny handlebars. Unreal.

I would love to do videos like you but it seems I don’t get the updates until weeks sometimes over a month after you do I just get frustrated not understanding why only certain people get it if it’s ready to go to certain people, it should be ready to go to everybody for real testing.
You can put the car in park and choose forward or reverse and leave the car. It will enter the garage automatically, and park itself. Be careful not to win the Darwin Award for the first person in history to run yourself over with your own car, that you are in control of.

They are able to do a lot without ultra sonic sensors, but... it would have saved your car from running over the box and bike.

The bike on its sde was the best test. Keep an eye on you're dogs and small children.
