22nd November 2024 and my New Tesla Model 3 Performance “Highland” with Enhanced Autopilot downloaded the latest update which now means it has summon ( “ASS - Actually Smart Summon”) and self parking.
Now Tesla self parking was never great before and that’s when we had parking sensors BUT now they use the “Tesla Vision” system to 3D model the environment purely from the cars cameras.
This is the first time it’s been available in the Uk, along with Summon functionality so in this video I jump straight in the car and start testing it.
It drove my car into a fence (no damage inflicted) but otherwise proved to be reasonable and I’m sure will continue to improve. It particularly impressed when perpendicular parking. Parallel parking was a bit less confident but shows potential and unlike other cars does at least have the ability to spot spaces ahead AND to be able to see kerb edges!
Summon is less successful and has little use really. At the moment you need to be within 6 metres of the car and is a bit flakey.
Let me know your thoughts!
Many thanks

In the US you can summon the car at Wallmart from a parking spot to the entrance and the car stops like 6m in front of you. In Europe the summon feature has a radius of 6m. 😁
That's ridiculous yeah
Yeah and in this video you see exactly the reason of why it is that way :D I am kinda glad that those expirements stay in the US. And never in my life had I a situation on a mall or a supermarket parking lot where I needed the car to come to me. And if it did it would probably block other people while I first have to put away groceries, put the kid in the seat and so on. So I really dont see the need for it for the majority of people
If it makes that journey as well as it parks, I hope the pedestrians are fleet of foot trying to get away from the wreckage.
The 6m limitation is due to an older European Union regulation that I guess it's still in place over there as well. Makes Smart Summon largely unusable for most people but there is hope EU will drop that requirement early next year. I do find myself using regular summon quite often though, when I get boxed in in parking lots, or if parked over a puddle, or if bollards on the sidewalk prevent opening the door.
I understood that the US example is with FSD V12 stack, not the standard branch with EAP.
That parking at the start is another Elon Musk gem, it's called Austin Powers Mode! 😂😂
It looks like Mr. Bean's Tesla...
@@MyFullSelfDriveTesla Except Mr Bean doesn't drive an EV because he's a moron ... well, not Mr Bean ... a bright chap, but the actor is ;-)
As they say “things can only get better” much improved, cheers guys 👍
Funny vid. Thanks you two. Always entertaining and informative.
love that you talk to the car like I speak to my daughter when I'm giving her a driving lesson 😀
I've waited in anticipation for my Actual Smart Summon to be activated, in the UK, watching the demo vids produced in the US.
6 METRES!!! it's beyond a joke, it's an insult. I've been mugged.
Complain to the regulatory bodies 😂. Tesla can definitely do it but it’s not allowed yet 💁🏻♂️
nah … complain to yourself for being a bra$nless id$ot
By a monkey?
i agree.. bought the 3.4k option for it to summon... only works if you're next to it.... its like taking a dog for a walk!
ASS is ass in Europe because of local laws (phone must be without 6 meters... what the actual F?). In the US I've seen examples where the car was literally traveling around small blocks to reach the driver. So yeah, say thanks to our lawmakers...
Yep, they take care of your safety. In the US your family can win a lawsuit and get rich because you were killed due to their regulations didn't protect you from flawed automations/cars.
It’s technically not just Europe but all parties to the 1958 Agreement of the UNECE. This list also includes South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, Tunisia and Malaysia (yes I was curious and spent too long researching this 😂)
If you see a person crossing and you notice the car fails to see it or identify it, you’ll want your phone to stop the car. Within 6m you can use Bluetooth, if not, you’ll need good coverage (and insurance)
Beurorcratic bs EU!! Thing is britain still pander to their BS even after we left because our government is WEAK!!
@@ricarmigyou just lift your finger from phone display and it stops.
My 2018 model S with USS did it perfectly. 6 years later this is progress.
I thought he was recreating the Austin Powers 3 point turn scene!
I believe we have to thank the UK for the 6 meter limitation for objecting to longer distances in the UNECE.
Indeed, it's because of UK amendment that we have this stupid 6m which is in fact more like 3-4m! and then when the car is 2m away it says waiting for pedestrian, which is you holding the phone!
Informative video, thanks. I have a narrow garage with a short driveway on a slight incline, the forward/back is quite useful for getting the car in and out. Over the years it's been through phases of not working at all and then working hesitantly/sporadically, perhaps 50% of the time. After cleaning the cameras and upgrading to 2024.44.3 today I tried it a couple of times, one time it worked the other it aborted half-way, so no clear improvement yet. iPhone 15 Pro with 2019 Model 3 LR (in the UK).
I think the marketing department mistook what the engineers meant when they asked about Smart Summon and they said its ASS.
Simply awful. I had a 2009 Passat CC that could parallel park automatically in ridiculously tight spaces, just that I had to control the breaks. Other than that, it was spotless for a 15 years technology.
VW’s adaptive cruise control has been really good for many years as well. I remember driving a Passat a quite long while back which I drove 400 miles for the first time and it worked perfectly and was very intuitive. It’s not remotely hard to see how they’ve moved on to make the ID3 as functional as it is.
I bet they’re sick they don’t have supporters that are possessed by ‘the cause’.
Nice ! Hope it comes to Australia soon.
My 2016 Audi A3 would parallel park in spaces so tight I didnt dare leave the car incase those either side could not get out. My Nissan Ariya has the same feature, first time I tried it it messed up, never tried it since as the 360 camera is so good.
Agree with you on that. Had a 2015 Audi A3 e-tron and was doing a great self park and quicker as well. Saying that, Teslas with Vision only have improved quite a bit since they started using that and will only get better.
Good to see the performance unedited
Oh dear, ASS is like AWW, Almost Working Wipers
I wish they had a free feature that lets you move the car straight forward and reverse for carparks. I don't need steering
Agree, like many other cars that work flawlessly doing that.
You shouldn't have to wait until the sun is in the right direction before the damn thing will actually park - and then of course it doesn't - what a disaster but it aligns with your video on driver assist software compared to the ID3
All this crap is because Tesla decided it could do all this without US sensors - well it can't!
When I leave home early morning it always makes me smile to get the message 'parking distance is degraded' I mean why would i need good parking sensors when it's dark and raining?
I suppose if you live in California, with nice weather, wide roads and big parking spaces, it's fine. But it might explain why in Surrey, UK, where I live the growth in EVs appears to be driven by German and Korean cars? I don't think I have seen more than a couple Highland model 3s. Why buy one when Tesla is determined to make the driving experience worse by taking away useful things and replacing them with technology that doesn't work. I like my Model Y but it will probably be my last Tesla
Tesla is bound by EU regulations if you didn't notice.
@@Alarix246 EU regulations mandated that they remove US sensors on Tesla cars? Poster is correct, vision based sensors for parking are useless in their current state. In low light and wet weather the system is extremely inaccurate. Ironically, this is when you need it the most.
the gap at the building, its like watching an amateur parking.... xD
" I'll be back later dear, I'm just taking the car walkies down the pub " lololol
Really Elon Musk claims these cars with just vision will be running taxis. Having been in the flawless Google Weymo ones in San Francisco this summer, I think all the Lidar sensors make a huge difference in real life implementation and not advertising ‘puff’.
Having said that Tesla developers are the best and what they do with software given hardware limitations is amazing.
Where I live you have to park as close to the kerb as possible (basically where it finished on the 2nd try). If you left it as far away as the 1st attempt you would find scrapes down the side when you came back 😂
Oh wow! Looked good on the marked parking spots but pretty bad down the side! 😂
Our 2019 Dual Motor AWD Model e3 has EAP when we bought it used.
As you were finding the Autopark works best when there is a line, I'm assuming the system relies heavily on contrast, with no line or very worn painted lines it gets confused and aborts.
We have used just plain Summon quite a bit to move the car forward when another car parks too close or at a wonk and access for my wife and her wheelchair is not possible.
As you have demonstrated, room for improvement, but I do think these functions will be achievable, unlike FSD in UK; the roads are just too narrow and bendy.
Brooks from Drag times used the summons from a carpark to a gym entrance which was quite far away. However he had the FSD activated. So I think in this situation it works decent. Otherwise my EV6 summons forward and back works better in all honesty. I have a tight garage entrance and works brilliant.
It clearly works much better in the US release, The range circle is much larger, hundreds of feet. Check out the many examples on youtube. I've only tested it once, I was wary of the number of cars and pedestrians and did not try for any great range, but I was well outside of the distances used in this video and there were no range warnings. It could be a hardware issue as well as possibly a different release in the UK.
Lots more useful training data for the super computer 😊
It would be interesting to see how it copes with getting into the end space at one of the older Superchargers.
Usa summon is awsome. Cold outside and it comes yo us
Nice video, many thanks.
Thanks for the demo. Not sure it's useful yet. What extra does one have to pay to get this on a Tesla? (At end of video: £3,500.)
Just so you know you can set ASS to go to a target rather than come to me, which would help the waiting for pedestrian as you could set the target in front of the car and stand behind.
Would be interesting to see how a similar sized Kia (EV6 perhaps) would do in the same circumstance at automatic parking.
16:00 "Summon complete." Yep - it summoned you
I’m no fan of full self driving, but the auto-parking in parking lot spaces has worked flawlessly for me. That’s the only feature I’m going to miss.
Are you selling your Tesla?
@ You wouldn’t be one of those scammers that prey on seniors that I’ve heard of on the Internet would you?
@@BobbieGWhiz
Now I only asked because you said "auto parking will be the only feature you are going to miss"
Many people are considering selling their Tesla because of Elon Musk's recent extremely strange behaviour!
@ I had a month free trial of FSD. Yeah, I think he’s a dick, but I’m not selling my car. Certainly, it would weigh on my next purchase considerably.
Richard! You and Matt need to do a video in the states letting a Tesla drive you in FSD V13
Fyi - the side clearance setting is only applicable to dumb summon (ie when you push forward and backward at the bottom of the app screen)
What would happen to these vision based parkings if the rear camera were just as dirty as it normally gets i autumn/winter weather? (My TM3 luckily got USS's). Terrible so deep the car sleeps after the latest couple of OTA downgrades.
You would have to park it yourself if the camera doesn’t work 💁🏻♂️

ASS seems about right😂
It is a shame that in Europe we have to be happy with cut down services vs the USA. Nice way to get the most out of the ASS by walking it!
Thanks, but I would prefer my own skills to park. Too much stress about kerbing the wheels etc. I do have an EV, not a tesla and the 360 camera is brilliant with the overhead view.
Agreed. My Nissans had that. They invented it too.
Maybe someone can shed some light on v2g v2l options to charge car using night tariff and using this to power home at day when prices are expensive. Heard of the quasar bi directional charger. Any chance u can do a video. Heard it’s better than solar panels in uk.
Absolutely frustrating, I recently moved into a flat with a shared parking lot, and the spaces are super tight. To make things worse, my bay is right next to a van! This is exactly when I need Summon, but it’s completely……. since there’s barely any signal in the car park. The last time I got it working, it took me more retries than I had patience to resist, I’ve given up on it. Thing is it doesn’t have to be this bad.
We do have Autopark already months earlier, but ASS is only rolling out now. Probably the UK needed to wait for "special training" on the wrong side of the road... ;-) Mine (M3 LR Highland) works every time flawlessly as you will see on my channel.
Echt???
@ Echt wat?
Oh yes I only want to park when the sun is in the right direction and I have spare tape in the car 😂😂
😂😂 That was more to prove that it works better with lines but Tesla doesn’t need to teach it that m a shadow is not a line
Seems we in England are getting short changed, I’m concerned as even the batteries are inferior. The price however is among the highest😮
i've turned tesla Vision off. I use the parking sensors instead!
When I had a second hand Tesla it was equipped with auto summon. I used it three times. Once to see if it worked, once to show people, and one when I was parked to very close and the only way I could get in would have been the passenger side. Too much money in my view, if it was 1000 I may go for it for all the other features it gives as well. £3500, sorry Elon way too much in the UK.
I’m in the US, so maybe it’s different here. I’ve had this feature since I got my car in April this year. It worked then but was too slow. Now it just works 99.9% of the time and works quickly and perfectly, with only one exception. That exception is that sometimes it sees the lane just past the last parking spot in an undercover parking lot as a parking, and will park there.
Yes, you definitely have it working way better than Europe and UK. Will come here as well at some point though but might be a while
Post of this quote had NOT aged well, but the other part seems very apt! Samuel Johnson, able lexicographer, once ejaculated: “Sir, a woman's preaching is like a dog's walking on his hind legs. It is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all!”
Please stop whining about hitting the curb it's not very professional, use another Tesla if your worried about kerbing your performance, overall a good test of the new feature can't wait until I get the update. 👍
From the car it looks very close and if you are about your car you would react like that. Even from where I was filming it looked very close and you can actually here me shouting stop. Nothing to do with professionalism
@@powersurge6878 The vehicle has a logo and you are running a business and a TH-cam channel which seems associated with that business so it does has everything to do with professionalism IMHO, using a personal vehicle for demonstrating tricky manoeuvres is a risk but your also making money off that risk, which is totally okay by the way.
@ he can whine as much as he wants when it’s his car. Why are you so triggered about something so trivial? It’s beside the point of this video
@@powersurge6878 So your the type who calls anyone triggered as soon as they make any points that you don't like. That says more about your mindset as a content creator than mine, if you don't like any negative comments you shouldn't post videos asking off people to comment, also I already stated in my original comment it was a good test of the new features.

Yeah I agree. Same with the advanced autopilot. I’ll happily disable and re-enable autopilot myself
@@markdawson4625Badly. Park itself pretty badly.
That also includes enhanced autopilot. Try not to mislead people.
My wife drives into trees, so Tesla's self park is already an upgrade 🤷♂
Tesla uses a dataset of cars being driven on predominantly on the wrong side of the road by unskilled drivers (Americans) for its machine learning. However in the UK we drive on the left, so a potential hostile “active measure” would be to force download US software to UK Teslas and presumably they would all attempt to drive on the right and cause chaos.
OK I'm sold on enhancing autopilot now 😂
Have you tried Shoreham Vehicle auctions, a few Tesla go throigh there and very cheap. £30700 for a M3 highland 73 plate with whote interior on a video realeased today 😯
I had a chance to use Waymo a couple of times in San Francisco - genuine self driving. Then my taxi to the airport was a Tesla with FSD, I asked the driver to give me a demo - it was terrible and failed 4 times in about 1 mile. Elon has got this wrong - self driving is a solved problem - it just hasn’t been solved by Tesla.
That's modern electronic life. Unnecessary gimmicks that you try once to see if they work and never look at again.
I can't tell if Smart Summon and Autopark are FSD-only features or standard in the US, Tesla's site makes it much less clear than I would like. I know they used to be FSD-only, then they were EAP or FSD, and then back to FSD-only, but now the site doesn't say anything about what FSD includes other than that it makes the car drive itself
Ok I finally found a webpage where it confirms that you still need FSD, but why not just say that on the store page instead of only linking a stupid video of FSD driving
Smart Summon works fine in the US, no 6 meters rule there. You can summon it 100 meters away. Is it due to european rules?
Yes
Yeah it doesn’t take this long and I’m also American
it's thanks to UK amendment to the rules (that do apply to all Europe and other countries)
please tell me tesla dont charge for ASS in UK/EU? that is not a feature/function. that is useless.
the actual parking was quite good though.
i wonder how it'd go if it was raining and/or night time though?
Not tried it since ASS but dumb summon in UK is really quite poor. It's not reliable enough to use in tight spaces. I'm actually less bothered by making it come to me far away.. just moving it back and forth reliably would be nice.
I've a 70 plate LR any ideas on when this will be available?
🤷🏻♂️ who knows other than Tesla?
I was actually looking forward for it, now i see it's just a joke 😂 thanks EU
My goodness, the EU must be terrible engineering such a useless thing. I had no idea; I thought it was Tesla as well.

man the 6 meters is so dumb. dumb laws. i use it in the US all the time and it works so freaking well. id like them to double the range again to nearly 800ft :(
Wow, I had no idea that it was STILL so crap!
I just previewed FSD and ASS in America with my 2022 Model 3. Both are just amazing. The FSD is getting very close to perfect, though I don't trust it to run unmonitored.
You DON't need to be within six meters to use ASS in America. You can use it in a 1000 square foot parking lot easily - I have done it.
With the ASS function, I tried in a VERY large and busy parking lot that adjoins my church. At the end of the church service dozens of cars were coming into and out of the huge parking lot. Hundreds of pedestrians were in the parking lot. We didn't remember where we had parked, so I used the ASS function and stood at the corner of the entrance. We kept looking for the car, and after about three minutes, we thought it wasn't working. Then we turned around, and the car had actually pulled up behind us. That was really quick because it would have taken us at least that amount of time to walk to the car. My friend with me was absolutely stunned. We couldn't even see the car, and it came right to us. Since then, I have tried ASS in all sorts of parking lots, and it has functioned flawlessly. This is the future, and no other car maker has anything even close to both FSD and ASS.
The parking function also works pretty well, although it can be slow in tight areas. But to be fair, it would take more time for me to park in tight areas. In most cases, the parking function works very well. How quickly the car parks will depend on where you position the car to start. In practical cases, if you position the car in a good place to start from, it will park as fast as if a human were parking it. So it does work extremely well after you learn how to use it.
It's almost like they don't parallel park in Muskville?
Actually, we don't parallel park very often in Florida.
I imagine ‘the leader’ spends a few billions on the web explaining to people that ,“No one parallels parks any more and it’s better that way.”
Regular sensors have been removed by Tesla. 😂

Yes, you can set it to fart when it fails to finish summon (ASS)
Can't disagree the technology is very impressive, but with a lot of flaws and there was certainly a level off miss-trust in the software, but maybe if people can't parallel park and rely on this, they should be retaking their test...
Pretty sure it summoned you 😆
Barely more useful than the original Summon feature on my 2015 Model S with the AP 1 hardware, several years ago! I do wish my e-Tron had any self-parking, but my car lacks that feature.
Winter or adverse weather render FSD self park useless
the 6 m limit renders it completely useless. 6m are not enough to maneuver, let alone get somewhere
The 6 meters crap was requested by UK from the UNECE - well done...
Vision is a big retrograde from ultrasonic sensors. Myself and my wife will not buy the newer Tesla's because of this and the lack of stalks on the newer cars. We will keep our 2019 models
I think it's just confused because you are sitting on the wrong side of the car. 😉
100% :D
What are those alloy wheels?
The original rims of the m3 performance?
Oh, my goodness. The Tesla Can Do No Wrong mob have moved in, together with the absolutely endless excuses for why Tesla doesn’t do the things it is supposed to do.
Absolutely senseless, endless sophistry.
And this was *best* case scenario since if it was raining, or misty, then cheaping out on radar (which it absolutely needs) would have only made it worse.
It must be great to have customers that don’t even care if it’s good or not. They’ll just shout really, really loudly that it’s great and leave it at that.
Well, it’ll just fall further and further behind because they expect so little of it. Which seems quite funny really.
I suspect some of the issues u are encountering is GPS location on your phone…. What did we expect when EU get involve not a hope in hell of ever getting self drive or proper car summons 😂😂😂😂
Nothing works in Europe 😅
It's in Beta like the wipers five and a half years later 😂
So far, it looks like Tesla Vision is still a "hoax", even you had excellent visibility conditions during testing :-)
As long as it has that huge blind spot right infront of the bumper, it will not be allowed here in Europe in it's full version, as the car has no way of knowing if something is right infront of the bumper of the car!
Therefore the owner allways needs to be in line of sight of the car!
if it hasn't got enough space to back up in order for the front camera in the windshield to see, which only can see a few feet ahead, it is totally blind due to the lack of a bumper camera, sensor and or a radar!
Dirty Tesla tested exactly those scenarios and the car of course just ran over the objekts he put infront of the car, which also could have beenn a toddler!
How could the car react to objects it can't see?
I have no idea why people try to argue against pure logic?
There is no OTA Update that can change that just as there will be no Update cleaning the cameras from heavy snowshowers nor protecting the cameras from sunglare!
Elon is a fraudster and obviously always has been!
He pretended to be this guardian angel caring about the environment and has been nothing more than a lying wolf dressed in sheep's clothing all along.
The US election has proven that more than ever!
Have you seen videos from the US? It works fine without the front camera. Of course it would be better with the front camera because it would map more accurately and I think we’ll see that with the Juniper MY next year but hasn’t been a problem so far and we drive these cars daily. When you’re driving any car you will always look in front of it and are aware of what is in the front so that’s a non problem from the start. The only scenario where it will be helpful is when you park forward towards a curb. At the moment the regulations do not allow ASS to work as it does in the US, that is the only limitation from having a fully working feature. No point blaming Elon for siding with Trump for that😂
@powersurge6878
You aren't getting the point as it seems!
If the car is backed up to a wall or another car, it can't back up enough in order for the front camera in the windshield to see what's possibly right infront of the car!!!!
That camera in the windshield only can see what's happening a few feet ahead of the car but not directly infront of it!
So how could that car safely drive off the parking lot, if it has no hardware to make sure if the path is free of any obstacles right infront of its front bumper?
Why are you trying to argue against pure logic?
So let's say there is a toddler crawling infront of the car before driving of the parking lot, how would the car be able to see or detecting it if it hasn't any built in Hardware to achieve that?
Watch Dirty-Tesla, he tested that exactly scenario and the car ran over all the objects he placed infront of the car which didn't reach over the cars hood, as the car couldn't see them and how would it, if it has no sensors, camera or radar!
Only because US regulators obviously don't think about that problem, doesn't mean European regulators don't!
Therefore neither unsupervised driving will ever be approved with the current hardware, nor will we get ASS in the US version!
It will be allways required that the driver needs to be in line of sight of the car in order to use ASS!
It's called a blind spot and current Teslas have huge one right infront of their bumpers!
Can't be fixed with an OTA Update this time!
Tesla TOS: Beta product (as many of their services are). So, neither Tesla nor the insurance company is going to cover the damages.
Wow.. The EU gets the ass version of this stuff. Much better in the US.
Why can I only see Austin Powers😅😅
