In the US you can summon the car at Wallmart from a parking spot to the entrance and the car stops like 6m in front of you. In Europe the summon feature has a radius of 6m. 😁
Yeah and in this video you see exactly the reason of why it is that way :D I am kinda glad that those expirements stay in the US. And never in my life had I a situation on a mall or a supermarket parking lot where I needed the car to come to me. And if it did it would probably block other people while I first have to put away groceries, put the kid in the seat and so on. So I really dont see the need for it for the majority of people
The 6m limitation is due to an older European Union regulation that I guess it's still in place over there as well. Makes Smart Summon largely unusable for most people but there is hope EU will drop that requirement early next year. I do find myself using regular summon quite often though, when I get boxed in in parking lots, or if parked over a puddle, or if bollards on the sidewalk prevent opening the door.
I've waited in anticipation for my Actual Smart Summon to be activated, in the UK, watching the demo vids produced in the US. 6 METRES!!! it's beyond a joke, it's an insult. I've been mugged.
ASS is ass in Europe because of local laws (phone must be without 6 meters... what the actual F?). In the US I've seen examples where the car was literally traveling around small blocks to reach the driver. So yeah, say thanks to our lawmakers...

If you see a person crossing and you notice the car fails to see it or identify it, you’ll want your phone to stop the car. Within 6m you can use Bluetooth, if not, you’ll need good coverage (and insurance)
You shouldn't have to wait until the sun is in the right direction before the damn thing will actually park - and then of course it doesn't - what a disaster but it aligns with your video on driver assist software compared to the ID3
Indeed, it's because of UK amendment that we have this stupid 6m which is in fact more like 3-4m! and then when the car is 2m away it says waiting for pedestrian, which is you holding the phone!
I got all excited when I saw smart summon on mine... then same as you, 6 metres ... Doh what use is that! I'm next to the car!!! It's basically the old summon but called ASS and it is ASS
Just so you know you can set ASS to go to a target rather than come to me, which would help the waiting for pedestrian as you could set the target in front of the car and stand behind.

I've tried a parallel park in a space that only had around 4" either end on an unmarked space against a fence and it parked perfectly! Also a similar space on the side of the road. I'm sooo impressed with it. Ensures no scuffed alloys 😊
My 2016 Audi A3 would parallel park in spaces so tight I didnt dare leave the car incase those either side could not get out. My Nissan Ariya has the same feature, first time I tried it it messed up, never tried it since as the 360 camera is so good.

Our 2019 Dual Motor AWD Model e3 has EAP when we bought it used. As you were finding the Autopark works best when there is a line, I'm assuming the system relies heavily on contrast, with no line or very worn painted lines it gets confused and aborts. We have used just plain Summon quite a bit to move the car forward when another car parks too close or at a wonk and access for my wife and her wheelchair is not possible. As you have demonstrated, room for improvement, but I do think these functions will be achievable, unlike FSD in UK; the roads are just too narrow and bendy.

That exception is that sometimes it sees the lane just past the last parking spot in an undercover parking lot as a parking, and will park there.
I have full FSD in my 2024 M3P (this is my third M3P since 2019). It is useless, but I don't pay for it as it is a company vehicle. It doesn't maintain any consistent gap in cruise mode, on a motorway, it rams you into the back of a queue of traffic at speed and then slams the brakes on suddenly rather than progressively. All feels very much at the last minute. When the traffic in front moves away, it takes an age to get itself back up to speed and certainly doesn't seem to monitor any consistent level of "gap" regardless of settings. In start/stop traffic, I find it abrupt, jerky and not very smooth. And ASS is pointless due to UK regulations; in general, I can park faster myself when it comes to parking. Overall, Tesla needs to sort this out. My wife's Peugeot 5008 is far better and smoother for any cruise functionality.

@@BobbieGWhiz Now I only asked because you said "auto parking will be the only feature you are going to miss" Many people are considering selling their Tesla because of Elon Musk's recent extremely strange behaviour!
Kia is comparable though has some limitations. 1. It needs to drive past a space to detect it. 2. It does not "see" white lines but rather parks with a reasonable space between vehicles. This works better when there are vehicles either side of it as it'll be centre of the space left, if not it'll just base it off of the one vehicle it sees. Oh and 3... which isn't really a limitation in my view, you select what type of parking you want to do. Be that parallel, bay, driver present or driver external (like a reverse summon, it'll park in a bay for you).
Quick tip for the restricted Smart Summon we have in Europe. Use only the “go to target” feature, and target it out of a parking space in order to save time (cause it’s damn smart now). “Come to me” is useless instead, with the 6 meters range required between phone and car, so as soon as you start it, it already thinks summon’s complete. And finally, try to always stay on the left side of the car, cause i’ve noticed the antenna catches your distance more accurately, and avoid getting into the path of the car or within 1 meters (3 feet) on its sides, cause it will slow down cautiously for pedestrian detection. Following these 3 tips, you can make a.s.s. quite useful and enjoyable even with the nonsense European rules.
Maybe someone can shed some light on v2g v2l options to charge car using night tariff and using this to power home at day when prices are expensive. Heard of the quasar bi directional charger. Any chance u can do a video. Heard it’s better than solar panels in uk.
Post of this quote had NOT aged well, but the other part seems very apt! Samuel Johnson, able lexicographer, once ejaculated: “Sir, a woman's preaching is like a dog's walking on his hind legs. It is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all!”
I got a 21 plate M3 LR with EAP, as the website showed smart summon as a working feature. Was really disappointed to find it didn’t work in the UK. Soon after that, they removed the graphics from the website. I did use the standard summon fairly often in car parks, but it did dither a lot! Definitely more Cringer than KITT 😂
please tell me tesla dont charge for ASS in UK/EU? that is not a feature/function. that is useless. the actual parking was quite good though. i wonder how it'd go if it was raining and/or night time though?
I can't tell if Smart Summon and Autopark are FSD-only features or standard in the US, Tesla's site makes it much less clear than I would like. I know they used to be FSD-only, then they were EAP or FSD, and then back to FSD-only, but now the site doesn't say anything about what FSD includes other than that it makes the car drive itself
Ok I finally found a webpage where it confirms that you still need FSD, but why not just say that on the store page instead of only linking a stupid video of FSD driving
Tesla uses a dataset of cars being driven on predominantly on the wrong side of the road by unskilled drivers (Americans) for its machine learning. However in the UK we drive on the left, so a potential hostile “active measure” would be to force download US software to UK Teslas and presumably they would all attempt to drive on the right and cause chaos.
All this crap is because Tesla decided it could do all this without US sensors - well it can't! When I leave home early morning it always makes me smile to get the message 'parking distance is degraded' I mean why would i need good parking sensors when it's dark and raining? I suppose if you live in California, with nice weather, wide roads and big parking spaces, it's fine. But it might explain why in Surrey, UK, where I live the growth in EVs appears to be driven by German and Korean cars? I don't think I have seen more than a couple Highland model 3s. Why buy one when Tesla is determined to make the driving experience worse by taking away useful things and replacing them with technology that doesn't work. I like my Model Y but it will probably be my last Tesla
@@Alarix246 EU regulations mandated that they remove US sensors on Tesla cars? Poster is correct, vision based sensors for parking are useless in their current state. In low light and wet weather the system is extremely inaccurate. Ironically, this is when you need it the most.
@@Alarix246 What ??? Show me the EU regulation that requires manufacturers to remove US sensors. The EU regulations currently prevent Tesla deploying Enhanced or Full AP features, probably because Tesla is unable to show they are accurate / reliable enough in EU driving scenarios. @@gap9992 I didn't mean taking the sensors off. I meant it is not allowed using the FSD. But I have no Tesla so I cannot and should not argue with you. Not tried it since ASS but dumb summon in UK is really quite poor. It's not reliable enough to use in tight spaces. I'm actually less bothered by making it come to me far away.. just moving it back and forth reliably would be nice.
@@kellypaws they implemented the 6m rule (and banned FSD from cities) to prevent local manufacturers (BMW, Audi, Merc) to look stupid compared to Tesla. This way Tesla looks stupid too, so its "all good now"
How are these cars driving around full city’s in America but can’t park in a massive parking spot in the uk? Mental! I had a Ford kuga years ago that parked better than that! My Ioniq 5 parked pretty well, could remote control it out of spaces too.
Thanks, but I would prefer my own skills to park. Too much stress about kerbing the wheels etc. I do have an EV, not a tesla and the 360 camera is brilliant with the overhead view.
When I had a second hand Tesla it was equipped with auto summon. I used it three times. Once to see if it worked, once to show people, and one when I was parked to very close and the only way I could get in would have been the passenger side. Too much money in my view, if it was 1000 I may go for it for all the other features it gives as well. £3500, sorry Elon way too much in the UK.
I just previewed FSD and ASS in America with my 2022 Model 3. Both are just amazing. The FSD is getting very close to perfect, though I don't trust it to run unmonitored. You DON't need to be within six meters to use ASS in America. You can use it in a 1000 square foot parking lot easily - I have done it. With the ASS function, I tried in a VERY large and busy parking lot that adjoins my church. At the end of the church service dozens of cars were coming into and out of the huge parking lot. Hundreds of pedestrians were in the parking lot. We didn't remember where we had parked, so I used the ASS function and stood at the corner of the entrance. We kept looking for the car, and after about three minutes, we thought it wasn't working. Then we turned around, and the car had actually pulled up behind us. That was really quick because it would have taken us at least that amount of time to walk to the car. My friend with me was absolutely stunned. We couldn't even see the car, and it came right to us. Since then, I have tried ASS in all sorts of parking lots, and it has functioned flawlessly. This is the future, and no other car maker has anything even close to both FSD and ASS. The parking function also works pretty well, although it can be slow in tight areas. But to be fair, it would take more time for me to park in tight areas. In most cases, the parking function works very well. How quickly the car parks will depend on where you position the car to start. In practical cases, if you position the car in a good place to start from, it will park as fast as if a human were parking it. So it does work extremely well after you learn how to use it.
man the 6 meters is so dumb. dumb laws. i use it in the US all the time and it works so freaking well. id like them to double the range again to nearly 800ft :(

@ You wouldn’t be one of those scammers that prey on seniors that I’ve heard of on the Internet would you?
@@BobbieGWhiz
Now I only asked because you said "auto parking will be the only feature you are going to miss"
Many people are considering selling their Tesla because of Elon Musk's recent extremely strange behaviour!
@ I had a month free trial of FSD. Yeah, I think he’s a dick, but I’m not selling my car. Certainly, it would weigh on my next purchase considerably.
Seems we in England are getting short changed, I’m concerned as even the batteries are inferior. The price however is among the highest😮
I’ve just ordered my m3 with your referral. I’ll only be taking deliveryy around march time.
Would be interesting to see how a similar sized Kia (EV6 perhaps) would do in the same circumstance at automatic parking.
I’m sure that was my wife parking that car 😂
Can you make a video for it
I've a 70 plate LR any ideas on when this will be available?
🤷🏻♂️ who knows other than Tesla?
OK I'm sold on enhancing autopilot now 😂
Maybe someone can shed some light on v2g v2l options to charge car using night tariff and using this to power home at day when prices are expensive.
What are those alloy wheels?
The original rims of the m3 performance?
I got a 21 plate M3 LR with EAP, as the website showed smart summon as a working feature. Was really disappointed to find it didn’t work in the UK. Soon after that, they removed the graphics from the website. I did use the standard summon fairly often in car parks, but it did dither a lot! Definitely more Cringer than KITT 😂
please tell me tesla dont charge for ASS in UK/EU? that is not a feature/function. that is useless.
the actual parking was quite good though.
i wonder how it'd go if it was raining and/or night time though?
I think the marketing department mistook what the engineers meant when they asked about Smart Summon and they said its ASS.
Auto-park is very good but ASS is useless with the 6 m distance. 😢
Why is it only 6 meters in the UK?
@@TheMadmax0609probably law restrictions. I’m surprised we got this much anyway
You can thank the UNECE, eventually the paperwork will catch up with the hardware
@@TheMadmax0609because that would be a vehicle without a driver (FSD) which is not legal on most, if not all, European roads.
@rugbygirlsdadg sucks for you guys. 🤷
It's almost like they don't parallel park in Muskville?
Actually, we don't parallel park very often in Florida.
I imagine ‘the leader’ spends a few billions on the web explaining to people that ,“No one parallels parks any more and it’s better that way.”
Oh dear, ASS is like AWW, Almost Working Wipers
Nothing works in Europe 😅
My right ear want some sound too!
and I thought that it was my hearing aids gone mad!
Ok I finally found a webpage where it confirms that you still need FSD, but why not just say that on the store page instead of only linking a stupid video of FSD driving
and this is only if you always keep the cameras clean, it is not raining and during daylight....
Works very good without EU restrictions
Tesla is bound by EU regulations if you didn't notice.
@@Alarix246 EU regulations mandated that they remove US sensors on Tesla cars? Poster is correct, vision based sensors for parking are useless in their current state. In low light and wet weather the system is extremely inaccurate. Ironically, this is when you need it the most.
@johnathan7707 you have 3 options: move to California, buy a different car or keep us annoyed with your dumb arguments
EU has just forced Tesla to post warnings when the cameras are obscured by dirt / rain
Maybe if Tesla adds more cameras and makes them somehow self cleaning things will work better??
@@gap9992 I didn't mean taking the sensors off. I meant it is not allowed using the FSD. But I have no Tesla so I cannot and should not argue with you. I however believe that the vision based system will improve even for situations you describe - as the vision is better than human, light is waves and sound is as well waves.
Not tried it since ASS but dumb summon in UK is really quite poor. It's not reliable enough to use in tight spaces. I'm actually less bothered by making it come to me far away.. just moving it back and forth reliably would be nice.
I was actually looking forward for it, now i see it's just a joke 😂 thanks EU
My goodness, the EU must be terrible engineering such a useless thing. I had no idea; I thought it was Tesla as well.
Silly me.
@kellypaws silly you
@@kellypaws they implemented the 6m rule (and banned FSD from cities) to prevent local manufacturers (BMW, Audi, Merc) to look stupid compared to Tesla.
This way Tesla looks stupid too, so its "all good now"
Pretty sure it summoned you 😆
Europe always in the first place, at the Regulating Games! /s
Agreed. My Nissans had that. They invented it too.
One bump and the insurance company will have to wright it of
the 6 m limit renders it completely useless. 6m are not enough to maneuver, let alone get somewhere
Wow, I had no idea that it was STILL so crap!
Can I get some ASS in my 2019 MS with EA?
The 6 meters crap was requested by UK from the UNECE - well done...
So it does work extremely well after you learn how to use it.
man the 6 meters is so dumb. dumb laws. i use it in the US all the time and it works so freaking well. id like them to double the range again to nearly 800ft :(
That's modern electronic life. Unnecessary gimmicks that you try once to see if they work and never look at again.
Please stop whining about hitting the curb it's not very professional, use another Tesla if your worried about kerbing your performance, overall a good test of the new feature can't wait until I get the update. 👍
From the car it looks very close and if you are about your car you would react like that. Even from where I was filming it looked very close and you can actually here me shouting stop. Nothing to do with professionalism
@@powersurge6878 The vehicle has a logo and you are running a business and a TH-cam channel which seems associated with that business so it does has everything to do with professionalism IMHO, using a personal vehicle for demonstrating tricky manoeuvres is a risk but your also making money off that risk, which is totally okay by the way.

@@powersurge6878 So your the type who calls anyone triggered as soon as they make any points that you don't like. £3,200 extra to park itself……….mmmmmm……I think I’ll just park myself.

@@markdawson4625Badly. Park itself pretty badly.
That also includes enhanced autopilot. Try not to mislead people.
I think it's just confused because you are sitting on the wrong side of the car. 😉
100% :D
Can't disagree the technology is very impressive, but with a lot of flaws and there was certainly a level off miss-trust in the software, but maybe if people can't parallel park and rely on this, they should be retaking their test...
Barely more useful than the original Summon feature on my 2015 Model S with the AP 1 hardware, several years ago! I do wish my e-Tron had any self-parking, but my car lacks that feature.
'It's farted'.
They need to bring lidar back even humans have lidar (third eye)

How not to demonstrate ASS/come to me in the UK
And how would you demonstrate it better? Only show the good part?
