    Viewers- If you know this trail, please keep coordinates and trail names out of the comments section. Thank you.

      Just like locals everywhere,, keeping the best spots hidden from visitors. Can't blame you and hate it at the same time. Good for you out west is mostly public owned.

      So, it's not that I want to keep people out of these places. Frankly, these places are plenty available on maps and aren't hard to find if you download free online maps of your state.
      I used to live in a small mountain town (population of less than 4,000) that frequently gets visited by people from the cities. Every 4th of july, people leave the entire town in shambles with garbage and graffiti and property damage. I have literally seen some of my favorite hot springs shut down because people were painting swastikas on it and leaving mounds of garbage. I have met property owners who have asked me to please please not publish trail locations too. By not spoon-feeding trail names/coordinates to people I hope to inspire people to pick up a map, but filter out some of the people you don't want to see on a trail.
      Fun fact, I actually lose money by not putting trail names. Inclusion of trail names, states, general locations, and more gives my videos a better chance to pick up viewers who are trying to research areas to ride. I lose all of that revenue by not including locations, but I feel I have a duty to NOT be a negative impact on the places I explore.

      @@madjack_757 um yea,, perspective is not justification..
      I understand, see the same shit, goddamned stickers everywhere, beer cans,, fucking garbage, the people..
      Still B.S. local only mentality.
      I go solo, use maps and DONT MONETIZE MY HOBBIES.
      See you out west, in OUR great outdoors 😀😉

    I'm glad you enjoyed the trail. One of my neighbors has adopted it and put a lot of time into maintaining it. Although it's an out n back on the north end, there are a couple of forks to get on it and a few road crossings in case you're short of time or need to bail out.

      Its an incredible area! Your neighbor is doing a fantastic job! Hows the snowfall up there right now? I am down in the valley and we have been getting a lot of sleet lately so I'd imagine the snow has been coming down up there.

    I was checking out a new trail up in Washington close to St Helens on my XT500, when I did just what you mentioned with the front wheel. I could not physically put that heavy bike back on the trail. I just went down the hill a ways, and HOPED that I could find a way back to the trail. I did, but it was anything but easy. LOL As you and I and anyone else that rides trails like this in the mountains alone knows, a poor decision could have dire consequences.
    When St Helens blew, it screwed up my livelihood. I told my Wife a couple of years before that if my job ever went away, I was never going to get another job up there in that RAIN FOREST!!! I moved to Northern Nevada, and although they did not have many single tracks, they had hundreds of thousands of sage brush covered acres with hills and mountains. There were also the occasional 2 track. I would drop down into a steep canyon and try to figure out a way to get out of it. Only once did I fail to find a way out. I had to walk out to a paved road and hitchhike all of the way around a mountain range to get to my pickup that was on the other side.
    And who should give me a ride? A deputy Sheriff. He said that they encouraged them to give people a ride that were out in the middle of nowhere. That sure was where I was. I went back the next day with a friend, a chain saw, and a come along. We had to saw some trees out of my way, and pull my bike up a 20 foot vertical cliff. I never did that again. LOL The mountain range that I was in was over 8,000 feet high. Just a little bit to dicey to go boon-docking in country like that.
    Yea, you would be screwed if you went off the trail in parts of that trail system. I was not a weak person at that time, 6'3" and 250 pounds, and I could not lift up that heavy bike. It is times like that that a nice little 175 two stroke would be nice.
    Ok, I will now finish watching your video. LOL

      Thats my nightmare scenario! It doesn't take much, but just getting a little off trail can be hours of setbacks..
      I know what you mean, I rode around ST Helens and MT Hood and its such a wet climate up there. It was a huge change of pace for me.
      What a legendary story!!!! Thats so lucky you got picked up by the Deputy Sheriff! Its a super defeating feeling when your bike just feels like a huge chunk of dead weight.. Feels like its impossible to pick up and move once it gets lodged into a bad spot. At over 8,000 feet, you definitely had your work cut out for you. I bet those old 2 stroked were super fun to constantly re-jet for altitude though hahahaha!

      @@madjack_757 I WAS so lucky to get a ride that day. It was about 50 miles from where he picked me up, till I got delivered to my pickup. It all started that day when I had to cross a deep drainage. I looked it over, and saw a place to climb out on the other side, so I baled down this very steep side of this little canyon. When I got to the bottom, I found the other side where I thought that I could climb out, but it was way to steep. I had no choice but to go down the drainage. When I got to the Alder thicket, I was done. No way to go around it, and too thick to go through it.
      When I lived in Klamath Falls Oregon was when I had the 175 Yamaha duel sport bikes. I jetted them for the elevation there. It was 4100 feet. I went riding on the trails that were on the top of the Cascades, and it was a little rich for sure, but the duel sport bikes were not as fussy as the MX bikes. What worried me more was going down in elevation. I went to Glamis one time and forgot to rejet, and seized it up. Drove 500 miles to ride, and then that happened. Oh well. Some days you are the windshield, some days you are the bug! That is one of the reasons that I love my 2022 Polaris Trail quad. It has EFI.
      After that episode of going off the trail, I started to carry a 4 pulley game hoist. Small, light weight, and it had surprising pulling power. I also carried a 100 feet of braided nylon rope to be able to reach some kind of dead-man.
      Did you see any 50" trails on those maps that you bought? Sounds like a neat place to ride.

    Keep up the amazing content, a lot of riders will learn tons from your videos well into the future because your commentary is a moment by moment analysis of the nuances of riding in tough conditions under significant pressure. Comment about sun height is great advice to ingrain in riders' brains. My mind also picks up on shdaows - anxiety ratches up as the shadows elongate around me.
    FYI, I was at ~7k feet last week in norcal in a sleet storm. Really magical/misty vibe, but palpably concerning given how far out I was and how it was slowing me down. Good thing I brought that second set of gloves, the exhaust can only dry gloves off so fast.
    On a separate note, and as I used to run a video production business, that suspense audio track you use with your intro segment is super effective.

    • @madjack_757
      @madjack_757  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks so much! Yeah, I really try to narrate my thoughts as they come to mind. Little tidbits about the environmental conditions, how I am feeling, my logic behind doing certain things, etc...
      You're smart to pick up on shadow elongation too. Thats another telltale sign. Really awesome you kept your composure in that sleet storm! Its a good thing you were prepared. Riding with cold hands can be absolutely miserable.. When you're riding in the mountains, elevation is a major factor that people gotta keep in mind. Lightning, rain, wind, snow- all things that ramp up in danger factor the higher up / more exposed you are.
      Glad you liked the intro! Audio selection and sound design is probably one of my favorite (but more time consuming) parts of the editing process.

      @madjack_757  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah it was a challenge to ride. Im runnin motoz tractionator desert H/Ts at around 13 psi. I love the tires because they can take so much abuse, but I dislike how little flex they have.

    @Jakevewing 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Which tire do you have on the front? I run the dualventure front/rallZ rear combo and it seems to do okay in the clay mud we have in Oklahoma but I don’t get into the same sketchy stuff that you do.

      @madjack_757  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I run Motoz Tractionator Desert H/Ts. A lot of my issues come from the more rounded knobs and how little flex the tires have since they are hard compound tires. Though, I actually love them! I may make some complaints here and there, but they're so durable and I have used them on such a variety of terrain. I just have to remind myself sometimes that they are dual sport tires and not dedicated off-road tires.

    Another great video Jack,interesting seeing such different countryside to here in Aus.I'm surprised you don't run knobbies considering the terrain you ride.Is there a reason you run dual sport?I have dual sport on my adventure bike because I do more road than dirt,but have knobbies on my little dirt bike because I put it on a trailer to go to the bush.

    • @madjack_757
      @madjack_757  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks! Yeah, I'd reckon its very different than what y'all got down un Australia! I run dual sport tires purely for the the purpose of having street capabilities. Plus they don't wear out as fast. On a lot of these videos, I ride directly to the trailheads and having the dual sport tires makes that possible. Even tho they are DS tires, they have a pretty aggressive tread. They're the Motoz Tractionator Desert H/Ts. Go check em out they're super cool!

      Cool. I know tires are a very over-asked question. But I was surprised to hear you say they were DS tires because you’re on legit singletrack with serious rocks etc.
      Curious - do you pack an emergency pulley? I’ve done some of the GRIT rides in Idaho solo and shit can go sideways quickly. I went off trail once (Larch butte) and it took hours with an e-pulley to inch it back up. A bear showed up during the extraction for extra fun. Ran out of water and light and had to cowboy camp in an e-blanket. “Good times.”
