I understand you don't want a bunch of outsiders flocking to/overloading a trail. I'm just curious why you specifically don't want trail names in the comments? Is an area okay to share? Like was this southern Idaho? Eastern Washington? Etc. You mentioned this was the northmost trail you've ridden, so I assume Northern Idaho or so
I typically avoid leaving information about trail systems in the comments cuz it is publicly accessible. If ya want info just shoot me an email and I can give info privately. I’ve just seen too many examples of people contributing to the loss of trails by putting them on blast online. I just don’t want to ruin the places that we all love.
@@madjack_757 fair. I'm sure I wouldn't be able to travel and ride. Kid life and depression has pretty much put a stop to my riding, even though I live like 10 minutes from some great trails here in Utah ha
@@madjack_757 you'd think so haha. It's been a couple decades of it now, not much helps. It's nice to watch vids of riding though, vids that aren't blasting with music and cut scenes lol.
Love it man, just started riding this year on my KLR250 dual sport. Been going crazy on the trails tho every week! Love the videos watch every one man. Keep it up 🤘 would love to do vids like you are one day man. ❤️
In the 70s and 80s I lived in Washington West of the Cascades, and we called those logs and roots across the trail "SKINNERS" because they would skin you off the bike, and skin you all up. You be careful now---------I have ridden on trails like that, and it is no joke. I was just thinking, man, that was a long time ago. I worked for Weyerhaeuser Timber Co. then. Saint Helens covered up a lot of great single tracks. I remember one time, the map showed five 180 degree switch backs, but there were 33 of them. That was an awesome trail. We never had any rock gardens like you seem to find. The first part of that trail would be a nice ride in the summer. The last part where you turned around, not so much. LOL
No kidding those roots could easily take a guy off the bike and throw em into something mean! I always love hearing your old riding stories man!! It makes me wish I got to experience the glory days of riding back in the 60s-80s
@@madjack_757 Around that time, I got my first thumper. It was an XT500. They said that once you ride a thumper, you will never go back to 2 strokes. I never did, well, except for an old Yamaha 360. What a torque monster. On that trail with all of the switchbacks, I was riding with 3 other guys that had high power 2 strokes. They were also much better riders. They took off like a shot, but when we got to all of the switchbacks, I caught all of them. My 500 had sooooo much low end torque, and their hi-revving 2 strokes were struggling. I loved it. One of the guys had a whole bunch of counter shaft sprockets, and he asked me how he should gear, I told him to put the lowest gearing that he had on it. He looked at me over his glasses, (you know the look), and I said seriously, you will never get out of second gear today. He never did either. LOL I scouted out the trail the week before, so when they all took off like mad. I would find them at every fork in the trail. I would point which way to go, and they were off again. One of them hydro-locked his Husky at a water crossing, but he refused to turn his bike upside down for some reason. After he messed with it for 20 minutes, he finely relented and we turned it upside down. I swear a quart of water came out of it. LOL They ALL loved my trail. Said that they had not had that much fun in a long time. I miss those guys. One of the reasons that they liked riding with me was that they never had to worry about me. I was never fast, but I always made it.
Those older 500s are awesome! I used to have a 1982 XL500R and that bike was a super thumper! So much torque. What a legendary ride hahahaha! Those are the experiences you remember for life!

It would be one thing to take a risk when it’s July. It’s a whole lot deadlier when nighttime temps could drop below 20 and start snowing on me. Plus, I am riding alone.
Yeah, there is a huge amount of horse usage in the backcountry where I live. This is especially true during hunting season. Riding on snow is actually more fun than you think!!

I always try to be super respectful to hunters that I meet and most the time the interactions go well. Good news is I am just about out of time to ride the mountains until this coming summer! If I am lucky I will get one more day, but the hunters will have plenty of space. I personally always preferred hunting with a bit of snow on the ground too. How is life in Alaska? I actually don't know the legality of studs in my state. I wouldn't surprise if it was legal though since I live in a pretty heavy snowfall area.
