The best channel ever!
I love this lure! My favorite, yes they're very well built. I've caught 15-20 lbs blues/ stripers multiple times and held up pretty good over the years. Glad and appreciate you doing this video because I didn't want to cut this particular lure, I love it too much. Lol. Thanks for posting

I can't afford to cut up lures like that, but I have been curious about what goes on in there. Anyway, while I liked this video, what really cracked me up was the petrified look on the 5 incher's face, as he helplessly laid there watching, as his bigger brother was disemboweled by the Dremel. LOL!

Next time you're thinking about cutting a lure open, just stop and send it to me! Just kidding, great video. That magnet system is pretty cool.
So why not use a clear silicone sealant on cracked lures, just use your finger and wipe across the crack, would that not be enough to waterproof it again?

I love your videos man but next time you wanna see the inside of a nice lure like that mail it to me and I'll have my friend put it under the X-ray machine at the hospital... My heart literally sank when you put the saw to it. I lost my last yozuri a couple months ago to a snag and can't find em anywhere anymore in tackle stores around here (HATE!! ordering stuff online). That old lure must have had at least a good 2000 large red fin bass on the counter, and a couple dozen pike. Never had any hard plastic lures that could come even close to that one.

I actually went to my dentist after filming this and x rayed a steez and a savage gear line through. looked pretty cool. I kinda want to do more but it's a hike to get up there and they only have small slides.
I absolutely agree with your opinion on Sebile lures. This is absolutely overprized crap. I was trapped by his commercials and got Stick Shadds leaking out of the box. The plastic of the lures is aging very fast. In only 3 years old transparent ones I see cracks in the plastic everywhere. Possible it´s form the tension of the thru-wire "construction". But thanks to Sebile I started to built my own wooden lures and used the Owner Trebles from the Sebiles.
The problem with the sebiles (stick shads and bonga jerks.)
They are like scuba tanks. Air pressure builds as they get warm. It's just that the plastic isn't strong enough to withstand the air pressure.
They sold 3 versions of bonga jerks. Oil/glitter filled, Foamed, empty.
I've had stick shads and bongas crack. But I don't worry about it...they catch!!
For lures started with over 20 Euros here in Europe it´s unacceptable.
Especially when there are more quality problems like, glitter/fluid running out and sinking versions missing all leads and floating instead.
But yes they do catch for a while.
Don't forget the lead weights breaking free as well :)

The hooks on some lures aka daiwa(which the hooks on their lures aren't great but will do in short term) but yozuri hooks are some of the best in my opinion but if anything you could upgrade split rings if you wanted but the yozuri hooks are usually really good.
Yo zuri hooks are serviceable and do well at resiting corrosion. BKK vipers, are my go to for upgrades now.

Just purchased the 165 to use for striped bass here in the Northern California surf. Any tips on how to work it? Specifically in the surf?
Cool. Great bait. I usually let the fish tell me. I've caught on a slow steady retrieve. As well as hanging it in rips. Oceanside i've done best casting pretty much parallel to the beach and retrieving with the rod tip low. With some sweeeps and pauses mixed in.

Thanks man! Casting distance comparisons are proving to be more of a challenge than I thought. I have a tub of baits that I've been throwing on a measured field...But I don't like the footage.
I can get better distance with the 165MD over the 175f and S SP minnow.
But that's with a rod rated to either 5 or 6 or 8 ounces. Rods rated in the 1/2 oz to 2........ 3/4oz to 3 ........or 3/4 to 4 range they throw almost the same. The lighter rods I was getting about 75 yards comfortably. The heavier rods 110yards. With the SP minnow (going by memory) 95-100with a heavier rod. The sp minnow threw further on a lower arcing cast and seemed to get out of shape on a high arc (at the apex of the arc)and really cut down on how far it went. THe mag darter didn't seem to matter.
Both baits could be "overthrown" SO if your timing is off or you rip a cast too hard. They get out of shape and don't fly straight effecting distance.
I spent a lot of time with these two baits because a lot of the internet was saying the bigger Magdarter and bigger sp didn't go as far as the smaller sizes ( i found this not to be true.) They fly the same distance with the lighter rods. But with heavier rods they definitely go further. The only way the lighte baits go further is if you really step down in line diameter. These are fairly large so I was testing them with 30lb ( abs 50lb braid and (40lb abs 65lb braid)
I may be off a hair since it's going by memory and i've been testing a lot of rods reels and baits over the past 2 months :)

Owners and decoys are offered in those sizes and I think strengths. Have you looked at them? Not sure but vmc may make a extra stout smaller hook in their tropic sparkpoint series.
Also you can try owner singles or gamakatsu single 510 hooks
I don't know why you would cut a brand new lure open, hey but that's just me. LOL. The key thing about this new Mag Darter is it finally has weight transfer. This is the part that I don't understand, Yo-zuri is supposed to be a premium lure company and weight transfer has been around for ages and they never had that in their lures for some reason. In fact, their sister brand Duel lures pretty much all have weight transfer.
Why he would cut it open is to get subscribers, and ultimately money from advertisements.

30 to 50 is what I use. 60 to 80 mono if boofish are around
