    A couple of owners have pointed out this isn't the "proper" auto-retract setup. I believe they are correct. This is a kind of work-around, but it isn't the normal auto-retract. I am researching this further, but it seems like the auto-retract feature only works if the seat is left in a position at least 50% forward (very forward for most people). I will be testing this out in greater detail and will make an updated video when I've uncovered all the little issues with this system.

    As a Subaru salesperson your tips are awesome. When doing a delivery after the sale there is only so much you can share before the customer is overloaded. I will share your videos with all of my future and previous 2020 Outback/Legacy customers. I recommend you apply with Subaru for ambassador status. A great program.

      It amazes me that Subaru has such poor instructions, the manual is really poorly written and organized. Subaru should be ashamed that their customers have had to rely on another owner for basic how to's.

    Thanks for this video , and the entire series of videos you’ve put together. I picked up my 2020 Limited XT a couple days ago and while I will still check out my Drivers manual, your channel will make my life so much easier!

      The manual doesn't answer so many questions. I've spent hours and hours testing every little feature. I wish I could make videos all day long. There is so much to share.

    Thank you! I looked through all the manuals for my new 2021 Outback and could not find out how to do this. Your video helped a ton. These instructions are not in any of the indexes or anywhere else in the manuals.

      Glad you like them. You'll find some tips that you won't see anywhere in the manual. I've performed hundreds of hours of testing to find out exactly how these features work.

    Thanks for explaining the auto retract. My old Optima would retract on exit which makes way more sense. So what i do on my new 2022 outback is manually retract the seat before to make it easier to exit. Then when I get back in the driver profile automatically move sit forward once i am sat down

  • @gregherman4691

    I have a new 2020 Outback What do you do if the info screen is completely blank, NOTHING on it. ? What do you do if you keep getting warnings, like, keep your hands on wheel when hands are on wheel. Warning, keep eyes on road, when eyes are on road, warning tire pressure, when tire pressure is just fine. Warning COLLISION, when there is nothing around. warning stay in lane, when car is perfectly centered. Rear hatch will not open when you put hand over Subaru emblem. This is a short list, took the car to dealer when info screen was blank, and rear hatch would not open, even the tech could not get them to work. She wrote the down, had appointment the next week. At appointment they claimed " they can not replicate the issues, even though they saw a few of them the week prior. problems still continue, Subaru will do nothing to fix them. Why will Subaru not stand behind their cars ?

  • @TheRestedTraveler
    @TheRestedTraveler 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for this video! It helped a bunch! I shared it with my sales advisor, too, since he couldn’t get it to work during the vehicle turnover checklist. One question though - aren’t there 9 presets? Doesn’t each key fob have its own memory setting or is that setting for both fobs?

    • @SubaruOwnerTips
      @SubaruOwnerTips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now that is a good question. If each fob can keep its memory, the car can support multiple fobs for even more than 9. I'd be quite surprised if it can remember seat positions per fob. Let me know if you can test it. If not, I'll add it to my list.

      SubaruOwnerTips I will try to get hold of my wife’s fob and test out what it does. I know I have mine set up to auto-retract the seat when I unlock the door. We’ll see if it does it for hers as well.

    • @TheRestedTraveler
      @TheRestedTraveler 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      UPDATE: My wife drove my Outback XT when we went out for dinner last night. The seat did not auto-retract when she opened the door with her key fob. I didn’t try to program hers, but I’m convinced that the memory accommodates at least two key fobs now.

      Thank you for the video! Question: is anyone having issues with the infotainment console / head unit resetting all sound EQ settings when you turn the car back on? At the same time, is anyone having issues with the sound dropping out randomly / disconnecting either through blue tooth and / or apple car play? Thanks for the help!!!

    Thé only reason I don’t have auto retract set to on is in case I have a large item or person in the back that I wouldn’t want to squeeze.

    I’ve decided that I don’t like auto retract because the driver recognition feature doesn’t recognize me half the time and I have to reset my driving position manually after the auto retract has done its thing. However, I’ve tried to turn off the auto retract feature, but turning it off has no effect. It still works. It is also programmed into the key fob. Could this be the issue? How do you deprogram the auto retract feature?

    • @SubaruOwnerTips
      @SubaruOwnerTips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would set the key fob position to the position you desire. It isn't perfect, but that should get it working for you.

    • @scottmassey7424
      @scottmassey7424 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SubaruOwnerTips that’s just it, I don’t want the auto retract to function anymore. I want to turn it OFF, but turning it off in settings has NO effect.

    • @SubaruOwnerTips
      @SubaruOwnerTips  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To clear a seat position that has been registered to the key fob, do the following:
      1) Close the drivers door.
      2) While pressing the SET button on the door, press the "lock" button the keyfob.
      3) Hold that, and a beep will sound. The memory will now be cleared, and the seat will no longer move back.

    since this is you newest video I will ask here:
    have you had any problems with carplay

    • @SubaruOwnerTips
      @SubaruOwnerTips  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't experienced any problems. There are unusual limitations, but no problems really. For example, bluetooth audio vs CarPlay audio during phone calls is not the same quality. You can't choose what audio to use when using CarPlay. Many of the limitations look to be issues with Apple's software itself, not necessarily Subaru's system. Hopefully Subaru and Apple can work together to build a more robust implementation.

    • @pierrec.5516
      @pierrec.5516 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My CarPlay is very finicky, locks in only about 20% of the time on the first try. I usually have to plug and unplug a few times before it locks into the system. As far as the seat retraction, what’s the point if it does not retract when you turn off the car. Honestly, Subaru wears its quirkiness badge of honour well, so many little things that are poorly thought out. The start-stop feature and how the deactivation switch is buried, heated steering that does only 75% of the wheel, heated seat feature that takes so many touches to regulate and an owners manual that is so poorly laid out that owners have to rely on each other for help in understanding how things work.

    Kind of sucks it does not move back on shutdown to make room to get out easy. A simple thing but missed by Subaru

    • @SubaruOwnerTips
      @SubaruOwnerTips  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is a bit of a hack anyway. Subaru may not want to implement this feature due to safety concerns. The "real" feature only works if the seat is more than 50% of its travel forward.
