My 36 y.o. son has had issues with flakiness on his scalp (and face) for years, but last year began noticing some hair loss and thinning at the crown of his head. At his annual dermatologist visit in November, she prescribed ketoconazole shampoo for him. He also started taking a daily oral biotin supplement. Between the shampoo and the biotin, the hair loss seems to have abated and the area that had exhibited thinning has filled in almost completely.
Can you tell me what kind of shampoo? I already started the vitamins a few weeks ago and I bought biotin conditioner. I keep seeing studies on minoxidil but it seems once you stop using it the regrown hair will fall back out and there are some scary side effects. I have never heard of ketoconazole until today. When I looked it up there were creams with the ingredient saying it was for other things but then some said for hair loss. I saw one shampoo. I’m not sure if it makes a difference between the shampoo and the cream but from this video and your comment it seems like the shampoo is the way to go.
I have PCOS and androgen alopecia. I have been on minoxidil 5% for about 3 yrs now, I started using Ketoconazole for about a month and I dont notice as much hair falling or the amount of hair in the tub. I am pleased with some of the changes I have seen .🤗
I lost a lot of hair one year when my doctor prescribed a higher dose of my thyroid medicine. It was almost like male pattern baldness. I went to my dermatologist and she gave me shots on my scalp, all the while telling me that it may not help. I was desperate so we did that. Then my hair started growing back. I don’t know if the shots helped but the hormones for my thyroid finally kicked in and I regrew my hair. It was about six months before that happened. My hair is back! I did cut it short but hopefully I’ll never go through that again.
I work at night so I apply an anti-perspirant/deo at night, too after taking a bath. I am hyperhydrotic. I noticed that I actually don't sweat that much in my pits at daytime if the product is still there as compared if I applied it at daytime. I will observe more now that I am aware of the matter. Thank you Dr Shah and Dr Maxfield. Love from the Philippines!
I love watching your videos guys! I had really awful scalp issues and tried so many bougie things but nothing worked. I finally tried Nizoral and not only did it help all the itchy problems and psoriasis but my hair is not as thin in my part area either! I think it may be a miracle product for me! Oh, I used it on my face around my nose. No dry flaky skin!
THANK YOU for Biossance recommendation omg GREAT! Skin looks amazing so much younger!! Peptide serum and eye cream GAME changer ( and yes I also use retin A and sunblock)
@@amandamcbride1083 Nizoral is amazing. It's the best brand I've heard of. My daughter has been using it for years. She had to go to a dermatologist because her dandruff was so bad. She had some other topical treatments along with this shampoo recommended. Now she just uses the Nizoral once a week or so to maintain. I use it as well (once a week) and it cleared up my initial dandruff after one use. If I skip weeks, though, it will gradually return. But I am also now using it for hair growth. I leave it sit on my scalp for several minutes before rinsing.
How about hair loss due to immunosuppressant medications? Please consider a video discussing the dermatology challenges faced by individuals taking lifetime immunosuppressants and remedies for the various changes and risks they experience.
I keep KP under control by simply exfoliating in the shower and using Cerave moisturizing cream. I am an elderly woman with androgenic and age-related alopecia and I've had some luck with using Nizoral ketoconazole shampoo every other wash, and rosemary oil applied at night. That and using satin pillowcases has helped. What grows back is miniaturized, but it lets me do "artful coming" to sort of resemble a full head of hair.
I've been using rosemary water (I guess more like tea, I would boil rosemary bunches in water, let steep and rinse my hair) after washing as a final step. I've noticed a lot of baby hair growing, but it still does not seem enough, as I seem to lose my hair faster than they grow back. So I started using minoxidil 5% as well. The amount of hair I was losing freaked me out too much, I'm only 34.
@@annapatton4544 I won't use minoxidil because I'm afraid of the "dread shed" -- and if it doesn't come back. Minoxidil is also fatal to cats, and I have cats. I hope it works for you. I was about 60 when mine started getting really bad.

Just coming off post menopausal (thinner hair) post cancer therapy, I'm hoping the Nizoral will help my hair at least not get thinner.... In the mean time it's great shampoo!

I love my showers at night before bedtime. I don't think I could sleep without taking one. Anyway, that's when I apply my antiperspirant. Also, I use the "clinical" ones. They are stronger and I only need to apply once after my night time shower. It lasts easily for 24 hours.
@@Bea_Rosy I use the "Secret" brand for a clinical antiperspirant. "Suave" also has a line and there are a few others to choose from. The reason they are stronger is because the aluminum zirconium in it is 20% strength, whereas the regular antiperspirants are about 11% (I could be wrong on this number, because I can't remember the last time I used the regular ones, but I know it was at least half as much as the 20% one I use now). The clinical ones are a little more expensive, but they last twice as long. I used to put antiperspirant on after my evening bath, and then the next day after my shower before going into work. The product says it lasts for 72 hours. I wouldn't know if it lasted that long because I could never go without a shower for 72 hours to test it out! All I know is it works 24 hours for me with one application. It's definitely worth a try, especially with so many different brands and fragrances (or non-fragrances) available. 🙂

@@Sapna-157 I use Paula's Choice BHA toner on my arms 2-3 times a week before bed, after washing. When the toner dries, I use Remedy for Bumps. I also wash the areas I have KP with a Salysilic acid wash from either Cerave or Naturium. To help with hyperpigmentation you can use retinol on the spots on your arms. Also, keep sunscreen on your arms if they are exposed to the sun at all. That's helped with dark spots as well.
nizoral (ketaconazole) - after decades of pretty bad hair loss, i started using nizoral shampoo once a week (which probably is not often enough), and noticed much less hair loss within days. obviously, i don’t know if i’ll see any new growth, but i’m ecstatic about the constant loss pretty much stopping. it can’t hurt to try it.
I’ve been using castor oil for about a year now. I make a concoction of shea butter, castor oil and jojoba oil. I use a hand mixer and it’s a miracle with my dry skin. On my face I just use the castor oil and a lot of my sun spots/ age spots have lightened a lot. I love castor oil !!!! I use the one in the glass bottle.

I kept getting blocked sweat glands and inflamed lymph nodes. I stopped using anti-perspirants, switched to deodorant only and the issue went away. There may be no studies and hard proof of the harm of aluminum anti-perspirants, but just based on personal experience, I wouldn't use them ever again
May we have a video dedicated to hand creams , our faces look beautiful cause we are using retinol, exfoliants but our hands look like something else, please help .
I use the nizoral shampoo for hair loss because as explained to me it can help keep scalp free from things that can clog the pores (ie; dandruff etc). I’ve been using it a couple of months and they also make a conditioner which I use as well. I just got my hair cut short, about 6 to 8 inches because it just looked thin and tired. So starting out with fresh hair and all natural color. It feels very healthy, we’ll see how it goes.
Four years ago, I experienced seborrheic dermatitis for the first time due to stress (thank you licensure exams). I was prescribed a prescription for ketoconazole. Flash forward a few months and I noticed extreme hair loss. My dermatologist said that in some cases, ketacomozale causes hair loss. I stopped it immediately but have struggled to get that growth back. Any thoughts on ketaconazole and hair LOSS??
(As someone with KP and Eczema) The unfortunate part is that there's not really elegant or particularly effective Urea product options. I've tried many and they're all either pretty unpleasant sensory-wise or they just don't actually help at all even with paired with sodium/ammonium lactate. It's great in theory and the few elegant products that exist with lower concentrations like 5% are nice for thinner skin like face but they don't do anything for the body really and they're not sensible or cost effective to use at that scale. The Eucerin Roughness Relief lotion, Cetaphil Rough and Bumpy lotion, Amlactin etc were all a miss for me. I agree that 10%+ Lactic or a
Have you found a relationship between ketoconazole and improvement in acne. Started using it for dandruff noticed a marked improvement in acne . Saw a small article in NEJM and it inferred that it had an effect of reducing the size of the sebaceous glands by way of effect of progesterone that was not understood.
I just learned that you can also experience hair thinning with ketoconazole ingredient as well, I’ve been trying to figure out what’s been causing my hair thinning and everything I have been using as far as products and medicine seems to have a potential side effect of hair thinning. I’m going to have to cut out everything at This point!
i've always applied my antiperspirant at night in part because i shower at night and i want to prevent any sweating while i sleep so i wake up dry. but i also always exercise after work because i'm not a morning person, so that's why it works for me. if you're a morning person, i've gotten away with applying quick drying gel type antiperspirants in the morning and i'm a pretty heavy sweat-er. i wouldn't recommend doing that with the normal stuff tho.
Since working from home at the start of the pandemic, I've been using antiperspirant after showering at night. And it's been working. That being said, if I work out in the daytime and then shower, then yeah, I use deodorant afterward.
I have used The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Solution on my KP for a few years now. It’s very effective but I have overdone it at times (used it too frequently) and my skin was irritated for a few days. I rotate with other products and always finish with a thick moisturizer (and a light oil).
I use a antiperspirant at night and I get less sweaty under my arms and smell even better during the day. I just deodorant in the morning. So I think it works
I’ve always thought it was much more hygienic to cleanse ALL your skin at night. If it’s so important to cleanse your face, why not the body? So, I use antiperspirant before bed. As my guru Dr Dray would say, it’s a game changer!
Beware of millia if you are susceptible. I tried aquaphor healing ointment around my eyes for only a few weeks and have been trying to get rid of the millia for a few years now 😒
Ok so I’m confused that this is for discussion. I always learnt once I started to need it, I applied after showers and showered twice a day typically morning and night. I thought that was the norm.
Every time i see the glycolic acids kp conversation and I defend urea10%. I feel like a doctor that just says “drink plenty of fluids”… the sheer disappointment on people’s faces because what i said is not sexy/trendy 😅 sometimes, basic is good🤷♀️
It really is individual needs. I for some reason don’t sweat or stink very often so I quit anti-perspirant I use Lume often at night and I and good to go the next day. But this goes not work for the men in my family 😀
What’s with the Castor Oil recommendations from so many? I really would like your opinions. For under eye, eyelashes, eyebrows…..is it just an old wives tale? Lol
Bunk is a noun meaning nonsense, so to de-bunk something means to take the nonsense out of something. Doesn’t necessarily mean to prove it false, just to explain it in a no nonsense way.
I have questions. What was the male/female ratio of the participants? Did these folks experience normal or excessive sweating? Was that antiperspirant test done in Summer, Winter, on a Tropical island with high humidity? I live in the latter and it is, with no A/C, very easy to sweat through your antiperspirant during the night .
I have a case of Purpura Pigmentosa Progressiva on my feet, ankles and legs. My dermatologist said there’s no solution 🥺 Do you have any tips that could help, please?
question on shampoos: can you use the Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo with 1% Ketoconazole and another shampoo before or after? Or just use the Nizoral and no other shampoo before?
When I use it, it's the only shampoo I use. I make sure my conditioner sits for several minutes afterword as I've heard Nizoral can be drying. My hair has been great! Actually I let the Nizoral sit a few minutes as well. My daughter uses regular shampoo after, but I feel it's not necessary.
ketoconazole shampoo sounds amazing, but is it safe to use indefinitely? i read it can cause alopecia and irritation, and sometimes problems in other body systems. is it safe for long term use?
No it is not safe for longterm use. Just dilute it n use only if you have severe dandruff otherwise it shreds hair as if someone used razor or trimmer while you were sleeping. Its that horrible. It dint work for me at all
Any recommendations for someone who has multiple contact allergies for exfoliation? Haven’t found a vitamin c I can tolerate. Trying Differin gel but I look like a snake but no lightening of spots (teen of the 70’s). Not as worried about wrinkles as I am spots. Looks like I am always wearing bronzer. Help?
Years ago, I heard to only use anti persiperant, not deodorant.. toxicity reasons. Personally, I'll use it when needed in the summer because of the reduction of smell. What is your guys's opinions?

I would love to see your take on castor oil!
@@torigillispie9823 I just recently started using it for skin care. I mix it with my vani cream after I wash my face & it’s definitely helped my skin a lot too!
Keratosis Pilaris is a symptom of vitamin a deficiency.
Great informative video but it’s lacking the loving stares Dr. Maxfield gives to Dr. Shah 😢
May we have a video dedicated to hand creams , our faces look beautiful cause we are using retinol, exfoliants but our hands look like something else, please help .
Why aren't you using Ret/Tret and sunscreen on your hands too?
I use the nizoral shampoo for hair loss because as explained to me it can help keep scalp free from things that can clog the pores (ie; dandruff etc). I’ve been using it a couple of months and they also make a conditioner which I use as well. I just got my hair cut short, about 6 to 8 inches because it just looked thin and tired. So starting out with fresh hair and all natural color. It feels very healthy, we’ll see how it goes.
Good luck @sherryroberts1821 👍
Four years ago, I experienced seborrheic dermatitis for the first time due to stress (thank you licensure exams). I was prescribed a prescription for ketoconazole. Flash forward a few months and I noticed extreme hair loss. My dermatologist said that in some cases, ketacomozale causes hair loss. I stopped it immediately but have struggled to get that growth back. Any thoughts on ketaconazole and hair LOSS??
I apply secret clinical deodorant at night since I always shower in the night sometimes in the morning also
Could you make a video on a hair care routine?
Congrats on yourr new skincare line. Where can we buy it?? Really want to try the one for melasma.
Can we have more hair loss content please?
Love y’all & love to watch your videos! I appreciate y’all giving us great information! ❤️
Can you help with anything for sparse eyebrows for mature women please?
Since working from home at the start of the pandemic, I've been using antiperspirant after showering at night. And it's been working. That being said, if I work out in the daytime and then shower, then yeah, I use deodorant afterward.
I have used The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Solution on my KP for a few years now. It’s very effective but I have overdone it at times (used it too frequently) and my skin was irritated for a few days. I rotate with other products and always finish with a thick moisturizer (and a light oil).
I’m glad I’m not on Tik tok because the nastiness of some people who don’t know hygiene. Anyway, love you guys’ videos.
I’m still waiting for them to say “here we go” at the same time 😅
Since I hit puberty I’ve always put deodorant on at night xD I always shower at night so, it always made sense!
I use a antiperspirant at night and I get less sweaty under my arms and smell even better during the day. I just deodorant in the morning. So I think it works
Where's the links to the other products?
I’ve always thought it was much more hygienic to cleanse ALL your skin at night. If it’s so important to cleanse your face, why not the body? So, I use antiperspirant before bed. As my guru Dr Dray would say, it’s a game changer!
Please review whhhhhy castor oil isn't a miracle skin care product!!! Lol I mean it can be hydrating but good lord, people think it's a miracle drug
I’ve been using it for about 1 yr now, and yes, it is a miracle product!!!
What do you think about using aquaphor under your eyes for eyebags? I love your videos. Sandra Sallin advised.
Beware of millia if you are susceptible. I tried aquaphor healing ointment around my eyes for only a few weeks and have been trying to get rid of the millia for a few years now 😒
Great work Dr's..really good tips, thanks very much 😊
plzz take more hacks in one video and plz take popular ones
Does teatree help with hair loss, too?
I use deodorant/antiperspirant every night and every morning. Always have.
Please talk about the iRestore for hair growth 😊
Are there any issues with liver toxicity and using a ketonazole shampoo?
Yes more videos like this!
Thank you, great video. More please!🥳😃
Is ulike air 3 ipl permanent doctor?
With brown Indian skin with Chin hair
Plz reply
Thx ❤
Love this kind of content :)
I have a case of Purpura Pigmentosa Progressiva on my feet, ankles and legs.
My dermatologist said there’s no solution 🥺
Do you have any tips that could help, please?
Are there any side effects to using Nizoral for hair loss if I don’t have dandruff? I want to try it purely for the hair loss.
5:39 I saw a tik tok saying this helps with dandruff, body acne, and lighten underarms. 🤔 🤔
question on shampoos: can you use the Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo with 1% Ketoconazole and another shampoo before or after?
It dint work for me at all
I had some regrowth in the temple area with prescription ketaconazole shampoo!
Help?
Good video!!
Can you make a video on excessive underarm sweating / hyperhydrosis? I would really appreciate it!
Me too!
eczema has been an issue for me, and i do find urea helps a lot for me.
Years ago, I heard to only use anti persiperant, not deodorant.. toxicity reasons.
Personally, I'll use it when needed in the summer because of the reduction of smell.
What is your guys's opinions?
