This was an excellent review. Thank you very much for the information on this particular lift. Nice jeep!
Great review Jared!
Great review. I am running the Bilstein shocks and like them.
Hey Jared, nice review.
I've been enjoying my AEV 3" dualsport lift for about 9 months now. From South Texas big bend ranch state park to the Idaho/Canadian border and lots of places in between!
I'm also an overlander ( not rock crawler) and picked this lift because it was in my price range and, as you said, designed for overlanders with heavy loads (me).
BTW, Brad did cover the AEV 2.5 dualsport in The Ultimate Jeep Wrangler Lift Kit Comparison video.
That's part of the reason I looked into it, then you bought it, so... That sealed the deal! :-)
Later.
P.s. just arrived in Yuma Arizona for the first time... Gotta find some trails! :-0
I have 35s on my 2022 diesel gladiator rubicon. I have the aev 2.5 with the hd springs.
Absolutely love it for the overlanding I do.
I think the HDs are perfect for the Gladiator with an overland setup!
Enjoyed the AEV review. Cheers, Mate.
Thanks Jack!
Great review. Keep up the good work.
Thanks!
Very good review in explaining how to pick out a lift in general.
Also, tires are super important. People need to use the load inflation tables to calculate the new tire pressure after a tire change which usually happens after a lift. People should also consider using non LT tires if your Jeep didn't come with lt tires. With 35s on non LT, your street pressure would probably be 26-29 psi. On LT tires it's going to be at least 35 PSI. Falken wildpeak AT3 might be the best non LT tire for off road and you'll be able to run lower street pressures for the best ride.
Awesome insights!
In this video I mention that Brad at Trail Recon did not test the AEV lift in his ultimate lift kit review video. He did. It’s well worth checking out. th-cam.com/video/BJgpmwuDi-k/w-d-xo.html
I've watched Brad's review. He felt the AEV was a little to firm in the off road environment. But did add that the Jeep was not carrying any weight. How did you find the off road manners when loaded down with weight? My Jeep is outfitted for overlanding and is carrying a lot of weight so looking for something that will work. Also many road miles between the midwest and Utah are expected.
I didn’t find it to be too stiff. I also usually have my family and our gear which means we ran pretty heavy as well.
How well does it handle pot holes and wash board? Also did you need control arm relocation braces for geometry
Better than stock performance on potholes and wash boards. It’s pretty impressive for the price point. I’m sure a remote reservoir kit that costs 2-3x would be better but I had no complaints.
What fender flares you got on there?
Bushwhacker fenders.
35" tires or 33"?
I’m running 35s.
Yeah I got a gladiator diesel. Setting it up for a camper and getting away from people 😂
Love the Gladiator. What camper are you going to get?
I've got an OVRLND Camper on order
2 1/2" lift is the basic for what your talk about for the easy to moderate trails, ! but the normal way of trail riding is clearance , i like 4" lift min, on 35 " tires, to me if your wanting to do this little lift ok, but for the same amt. of money 4 " is better. x35" tires, the rating for the 5 companies are pro comp, (1), fabteck(2), rancho(3), teraflex(4), skyjacker(5) skyjacker is the cheapest of the 5. starting prices for #5, is around 600.00 , up to 4.5" lift, procomp, the best is around is $8000.00. rockcrawler unit, . the most important thing to have in mind is your gearing front and rear, lockers a must better to have then not, i prefer 4.10 gears , dana 60 axles with lockers from the factory, some people use 3.73 for better economy compared to 4.10, different is about 3 mpg between the both, as far as this company brand your going to have 2 1/2" lift every lift loses 1/2 on the lift , that 2" on yours, not much different from 4"???
All good thoughts. Like I mentioned not a rock crawler although I’ve tackled a number of fairly difficult trails with this setup with no issues. All depends on your goals and what you want to hit.
