      Holy! That’s awesome!!! It’s very rewarding to do something like this. I spent a lot of time reviewing the process before actually taking it on. Also, I made sure to have the control arms torqued at a garage because I could tighten them up myself as the torque setting is very high. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

    I'm glad Ian likes hard work because the way he gets his jeep and others out of trouble is just that, a lot of hard work. Friends and I had to work 48 hours WITH a winch to get a knot head out of a muddy lake bottom. With out the winch we'd have been maybe 4 or 5 days getting him out. No thanks, I'll keep my winch and have one more great tool to keep me and others wheelin in the dirt or mud or the snow.

    Quick tip! If you have a Sport/Sahara with stock 31" tires, you can buy 33" tires for a quick 1.5" lift! People often sell stock Rubicon 33" tires really cheap on local boards, so you can find a good deal. I got 5 KO2 33" tires and 5 nice rims for just $800! Really helped my off-road ability.

    Hello very good video, I have a question in the instructions says Rear Upper Control Arms: Frame 111 ft-lbs plus 95° Axle 111 ft-lbs plus 90° What do they mean by plus 95 degrees or 90? thanks

    • @CheaperJeeperTV

      I think it means torque to the spec value, then once reached, tighten an additional 90 degrees(or 1/4 turn).

    Dino, one more question. Did you think about getting the geometry correction. They AEV say it's not required but that it could benefit from it? As you know I tow with my Wrangler, so anything I can do to improve the ride and steering while also improving the aesthetics and a little better off-road performance is important to me.

    Great video. You gave me confidence I can do this myself. I wrenched on my VW Vanagon for years so I'm not afraid of the work, but seeing how it's done is really helpful. I'm not sure I like extension brackets for the shocks though, just another point of possible failure. I'm thinking I could just get longer travel shocks (and perhaps upgrade from stock)? Does that seem feasible?

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Scott,
      I've heard of people starting with the brackets, and then when they have more motivation and more money later down the road, they begin to upgrade by putting on longer shocks, etc.
      I'm glad you liked the video. It was fun to make it.
      Cheers.

    Just found your channel, great video! I have the same jeep and I Want to add the aev lift. Does the Guelph dealership still sell these?

  • @patan77
    @patan77 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question, when you lift 2 inches the jeep, the panhard bar that attach to the chassis and the diff, change the angle moving your wheel probably a good inch to one side of the vehicle.
    Does aev provided the bracket to adjust the panhard bar or you Has to buy an adjustable one to maintain the geometry of the tires planted on the jeep chassis?
    Also, the front diff change in angle, even at 2 inch lift is sufficient to change the angle to which the jeep does. The turn and also changes the suspension reaction and assist in death wobble how did you change the diff attack angle. With this system?

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey patan77,
      AEV engineers determined that on a 2" lift, the JL suspension component geometry is not altered enough to significantly change ride performance of the Jeep. From my experience, and from other's reviews, I'd have to agree with them. Mind you, if you'd rather install control arm extension brackets to make ride performance better, you can still do that. I had planned to do that if the ride was not to my satisfaction after having installed the lift, but it was good, so I didn't bother spending the extra money after I determined that it wasn't necessary. Thanks for the question. Cheers.

  • @GoldenK9Campers
    @GoldenK9Campers 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great video Dino. In about 4 months i'll be updgrading our wheels tires.. and probably a lift. I'd like to go with 35's, and I have a Sport-S. Would you still do the AEV lift today. I'm assuming I could run 35's with this lift.

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’d do it again. It was a reasonable option price wise if you are only occasionally going off-road and for the rest of the time you have a lifted Jeep to sport 35s. There are a variety of factors that can affect fit for 35” tires. I put on 35” tires with that lift. However my rim and tire combo were proven by AEV. Certain brands of 35” tires and associated wheels can fit differently so I’d ask around about the wheels and tires combo you’re going with.

    Comparing the materials of the OEM vs AEV spacer, it looks like the OEM is made of softer rubber compound vs the AEV looks like hard plastic. Can you confirm this? I am just wondering for noise, harshness, vibration. Thank you.

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, If I recall, the OEM did seem like a softer rubber, however I didn’t notice much of a change in harshness, to be honest. In that Jeep, the wandering was the bigger issue.
      I now have the 2024 Rubicon X and the steering and handling are 100x better.
      Cheers.

    • @JimmyDevere
      @JimmyDevere 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ok thanks for the reply. Yes, probably not a huge difference, but I just wanted to know. I think I recall you had the original steering box they updated. Mine is 2020 and I have the updated steering box. I have found power steering fluid needs to be kept a close watch as when it gets low, at least on my Jeep, it starts to wander. Mine is a stock Rubi, and even though the control arms are within spec, I wonder if a AEV bracket would help the geometry even more. If you go to their bracket page, they do say as you mention that the brackets are not necessary, but they will improve handling anyway. So just a thought. @@CheaperJeeperTV

    Thanks for the detailed video, can you tell us your review after using it for more than a year now? Did you noticed any damages on the original OEM parts because of the spacer?

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't noticed any damage to original OEM parts, but I did have to replace the front bearings. The mechanic said those are typical wear components, but still, I wonder had I not lifted and used larger tires, would I still have had to make the repair? I do have a lot of kilometres on the Jeep though. It is approaching 200,000 kms, and I just recently sold it. That was last week's video if you wanted to check it out. Cheers

    OMG this was so helpful even for just the jack placement. I am using the Terraflex 2.5 JL Performance lift with shock extensions but most of this install looks the same. They actually start at the front and also remove the rear parking brake from the bracket and move the cables. Can I start at the back like you, or should I start at the front? Does it matter? Your way looked way simpler. Also, does the AVE kit recommend a minimum backspacing? I think the Terraflex does at 4.7 but that could be with the upgraded 9550 shocks, not sure. IF that is the case, I'll probably put 1.5"-wheel spacers for now with the 2021 JL Sport OEM wheels until I upgrade to 17x9 -12mm offsets which is about the same 4.5 backspacing as the OEM with 1.5" spacer. Building in stages to save large initial costs at one time.

      @CheaperJeeperTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Joe,
      I don’t know if it makes a difference if you start at the front or back first. For the AEV 2” lift kit that I installed, I didn’t see any instruction that stated a preference. As for offset and spacers, I couldn’t give you any advice about that. One of the reason Ms I chose to go with the AEV wheels is not that they looked good, or were of great quality, but mostly because they guaranteed proper fitment. Sorry I couldn’t be more help but I’m glad you found the video of some benefit. Good luck with your install.
      Cheers

      @@CheaperJeeperTV Hey thanks Cheaper Jeeper. Ideally I want 17x9 -12mm offset wheels but with the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss tires I'm looking at a $3,300.00 chunk and that's a big up front cost. I think I'll push out the OEM wheels myself with the 1.75" spacers for now allowing the clearance for the lift and then add the Mickeys for about $1,400.0O (total without lift) or even add some Rubicon wheels for $500.00 and still be at a nice look and only $2,000.00 and set up more like and international overlander style with 33's, add a 2.5 lift and keep it on 17's. I can even add the Teraflex lift in stages if I start with the spacers, then go bump stops, then coils and last shocks (probably spend more money here on good shocks) and can do it in stages. Just keeping it cheaper! thanks man.

    Great video! I am going to be installing this kit on my Gladiator next weekend, and I was curious to see if you'd found any tricks to get the higher torque values for the control arm bolts. For the ones you were able to do on your own, was it enough to just do by hand, or did you have to use any tricks with a steel pipe to prevent one wrench from moving or anything like that?

    Notice a height change from when you first pulled front springs.You’d need more space to get spring back in with spacer,. Did you just drop the axle more, or was there another little trick? Some kits ask you to uncouple the front shaft too

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Earl,
      The front differential is not in the centre of the axle, it’s more to the drivers side which makes the drivers side droop more because of the uneven weight. I had someone lift the drivers side of the axle by hand while I pushed down on the passengers side of the front axle and I was able to slip the spring on, no problem. I hope that made sense. Cheers.
