    Hi mate, I have a speed triple. You need to go into the settings to turn on the quick shifter. For some reason when the battery gets low it switches off but it is just a case of switching it back on and you are good to go. I replaced the Corsa's with Michelin Road 5's which transformed the bike for me particularly in the damp and wet weather. Big positive for big guys - I am 6' 3" is the mirrors. You can actually see what's behind you. Excellent review..

A single geezer with a tank bag, a tail pack and a small ruck-sack should have plenty of space if you’re hotelling it or doing B&B’s. How many pairs of undercacks do you need? I very nearly bought one of these a few months back. The Superduke won out though. I'm not ready to have a more sensible bike yet.
    With regards to keyless ignition, in a car I don't get it. You need to have it in your hand to unlock the thing. On a bike I've been converted purely on the basis that I cannot leave my key in the ignition or top box, we've all done that at some point, and you're less likely to have it pinched by some A-hole at a set of lights. I would also like the option of being able to put it into an ignition though.

    • @matthewoliver9055
      @matthewoliver9055 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got keyless ignition for my car, certainly don't need it in my hand to unlock it, just walk up to a door and open it, keys in my pocket, on a bike can't see the point especially if you need it for petrol cap

      I don't need the key for the petrol cap, you have 30 seconds from when you turn the engine off to lift the cap. It varies bike by bike.
      The amount of times I've accidentally left the key in on my bike having keyless ignition is a good idea.

    Been saving this one for an undistracted eve, I love the 1050 Speed Triple, and would utterly have one in my garage if it weren't for the rumoured 1160 :-)
    I don't understand why other manufacturers do not do the right angle tyre valves, so much easier to use! Oof, you bad man throwing the seat cowl on the floor! :D
    It is the touring ability, basically the luggage issue that puts me off, fortunately I can own a couple of bikes so can ride somit else on the longer trips, but it would be nice if it had a stronger subframe to allow for luggage options!
    I very much can't wait to see what the new Speed Tipple will be like, and I shall probably own one if they release it before the money burns a hole in my pocket! :D

    Lug test noooo... 265 kilos, but as a touring proposition you should go Triumph Sprint GT. For a pillion, a really decent ride and overall just a comfortable, happy, mile muncher. The Speed Triple is a little tuned up for a smidging more HP and torque but basically the same lump, 1050cc of pure riding pleasure. The Sprint GT, an under-appreciated gem 😉

    • @karlosh9286
      @karlosh9286 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do wonder why Triumph dropped the Sprint GT . I quite liked the look of it. The adventure bikes as tourers just don't do it for me. Only the Tiger Sport in Triumph's current range looks anything like the Sprint GT.

      @@karlosh9286 I always liked naked bikes but went for a faired bike n now everyone's on the naked bandwaggon including Triumph ;D The GT offered the best value on second hand market for a competent tourer, yeah I'm not sure why they discontinued. It hit that gap between top of the middle weights and the high end expensive litre up bikes ! They always had some sort of flagship touring triple and u can see the same pedigree in the Trident, ST at 955 and 1050cc. Yeah Tiger Sport at 1050cc nice but value for money and touring ability and all round good looks in Caspian blue, it's always the GT ;-)

    Agree the colour schemes are very poor. Then there’s the RS price ... that is Duc Monster level! I had an old 955i back in the day and I have been recently tempted, but bikes to me are toys and really it’s hard to justify a new machine at these price points. Now maybe a Speed Triple, ~~ ‘12 for £4.5k ... 👍

  • @karlosh9286
    @karlosh9286 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    As you know, I've got a Speed Triple and a Speed Twin !
    Your review is spot on.
    I moan about the look of the twin headlights, don't know if I should say, for actually lighting up the road, I find them better than the Speed Twin.
    The lighting is more "even" on the Triple. Maybe I should stop moaning about the "look".
    Wet weather riding. What's that ? :-D
    Pillion. My wife will not get on the Triple, she happily gets on my Speed Twin. Triumph do supply both the seat cowl and a pillion seat for the Triple at no extra cost when you get the bike. Pillion seat is very small and high up, along with high pegs, and the high level exhaust could be an issue on the thighs. It is not a bike for pillions !
    I'm getting 50 MPG :)
    When I got my one, in a deal in Aug 2020, it came with an inclusive quick shifter. The heated grips got added via an options voucher. Plus Triumph were giving £1000 off if you took the finance, which you could clear within say a week or so and only pay a very tiny amount of interest (£40 ish) . So £960 off, assuming you could clear the finance, and a few of the options at no extra cost.
    Quick shifter on my one works really well. I love it. ( Something I'd like on the Speed Twin, but that doesn't seem easily possible )
    In Aug 2020, I test rode the current Street Triple RS and the current Speed Triple. I much preferred the feel of the Speed. The massive amount of low down grunt, and it feels more "meaty". Exhaust note on the Speed is a lot better. The current Street Triple RS is a very good bike, just not as good as the Speed Triple RS IMO.
    Only thing I prefered on the current Street Triple is it has a larger fuel tank.
    Yep it's a Sunday back road blaster, that's what I've got my one for.
    As a commuter in town centres, it would be fine, but you don't need 148 BHP for that. You could tour on it but without a pillion !
    Comparing both my bikes, I prefer riding the Speed Triple. I prefer looking at my Speed Twin (it is still a good ride, just not as good as the Triple) . Don't tell the Speed Twin or Triple that !

    "Why buy the Speed Triple over the competition?" seems to be the question all its reviews are struggling to answer. Not being critical here (I'm a Triumph owner who is deeply impressed by the quality across their entire line), but it's one of those bikes - along with the new Honda CB 1000R - that sits in the fuzzy gray middle ground of liter/litre-class non-super nakeds. As someone who is entirely in agreement with the 200hp-is-absurd-for-the-street critique, I see the value in the thoroughly usable, sensible street bike. Just not sure it computes over in Marketing.

    Your 'like to with with' reviews are excellent and very real world vs what we get on launch reviews. Have to agree, Triumphs paint schemes are pretty unimaginative these days..they used to have some great colours! I traded an older street triple for one a few months back, as less than a year old with a number of extras made it a bargain. It had to be white, as flat black with dayglow yellow accents looks cheap and lets the bike down. If you think that area under the cowl is small, wait until a prospective purchaser a tail tidy. The additional wiring and connectors eat into that space even more. I seriously doubt I'd fit anything under that cowl to charge and use that USB port. Once you have the cowl off, you'll need a 5mm allan key to remove the seat..and there are more tools under there..but that makes little sense if you need your own tools to get to them, so underseat storage is a significant downside compared to the street. The quick shifter may have been set to 'off' in the menu. I disconnected the battery to connect an accessory sat nav holder...went out for a ride, no QS. Found fairly well buried in the menus there was a QS setting item. I guess default it's off. Having said that, love the handling, seems to have a tighter turning circle vs the street, feels more planted, love the looks and wanted the twin underseat exhaust, which I have a feeling will go on the next gen bike....always liked the twins on your street and didn't like the single under slung one on my later street. The torque at real world (i.e. legal) speeds feels just as good as my K1300, but feels lighter, so happy with the power delivery as well/ Have to have at lest one Triumph in the garage..plus I 'think' these at least were made in the UK. Not that it matters too much, but nice if it is UK made.

    Have to say whilst it’s not striking that’s not a bad colour scheme from Triumph (albeit I agree they really could do some heritage paint jobs: black & gold or Catrol style racing). I guess my question is do the under-seat exhausts warm the posterior?
    (I had a 2008 R1 and it cooked the nether regions and my pillion)

      Actually no - no excessive heat off them that I noticed....

    For me those mirrors are first to change for normal ones if possible. If not possible, I wouldn’t buy that bike.

      What's not normal about the mirrors?

    Nice! Really leaning towards Triumph lately, i like the quality look of them, they look solid build and maybe ok for a short house like me to progress back to a bigger bike .. might get a test ride one day! Cheers TMF, your review covers all things to consider, very informative 👍

      Thanks Debbie - I try and cover the stuff I’d look for if I were buying a new bike on these more in depth reviews....

    Nice review,though that bike comes to life in summer when the tyres are warm,mid corner it is untouchable,and on entry,yes it’s down on power with the other Europeans,but that does not show on road in fact it’s less taxing over time to ride spirited.track is where the others will shine,plus it looks classy,apart from the Ducati the others look plastic fantastic 🤣 and the tuono is nearly full fairing?.anyway rant over nice work TMF
