    So refreshing to hear someone with an opinion. Motorcycling journalist now days seem to have lost this ability. They seem to simply reharsh the companies press release, providing the public with very little insight into what the bike is like in the real world. I hope Triumph appreciate your upfront and honest evaluation. it is what is needed. An opinion is a good thing, it leaves us all free to agree or disagree, but most of all it has given us cause to think. Many thanks.

      absolutely correct. Professional moto journlists want to keep their access to manufacturers, so they will always tone down any critisisms that they have and invariably you end up watching an extended advertisement/music video for the bike rather than an objective review.
      This is why guys like TMF, provide a vital service in giving us riders the actual real world low down on a bike, and so help us make better choices when it comes time to pull up a chair with the dealer.

    One thing I seriously enjoy more on the 2012 is the dash. I love analogue needle tachometers. I think they are akin to an excellent looking time keeping piece. I seriously hate these new tft displays that are coming out.

    13:05 They made a very good sound for an Euro 4 bike! But when you listen, you notice its more quiet and they concentrated more on the airbox sound. But the deep wide base sound is missing now.

    Can't get enough of your reviews, you have a magnificent speaking voice. Plus you're a great salesman! I've been riding an EX500 for the past three years and have been thinking about what to get next for quite some time. Your reviews have really helped influence my decision. Hate seeing reviews of riders talking only about speed and wheelie-ability, just not how I ride. Thanks so much for the great work!

    I am 63, I've grown up around Brit bikes. BSA, Triumph, Norton, Vellocete, Vincent, and Ariel. My father collected and sold examples of all I just named. I personally own a coupke of trumpets. So I'm thinking of parting with 1 of them and maybe get a speed triple. Don't really care if not a new one. I just want it for some nice,fun brisk rides through the Georgia mountains. W/0 antique electrics and kick starting. Always loved the old trident and rocket 3 motors so mabey a speed triple or a sprint...thank you fir your great vid.

      I agree, I have a 2005 speed triple and the whole look of the bike is much better than either of these two models. The new models try to look overly slick and it just doesn't work. It's gradually losing the streetfighter aesethic.

  • @rontrose

    I have a 2018 Street Triple R. I have a Remus slip on, bespoke heated grips, sliders, blah blah. All came with it. That said, I had my eye on a 2012 when the other came up. He has to get rid of it and it already had the upgrades for just 1k more (US). I picked it up for 7k US, with 2.5k on the clock. It just my fave bike ever and I’ve been riding for 30 years. All that said, the 2012 is a better looking bike, no doubt about it. I have the black gloss paint and it’s brilliant, but the real difference is the black chassis on mine is just sublime. It will always be more capable than me and is super confidence inspiring. All graft machines and the sun will be our Wednesday. Thanks again for being so comprehensive. Your bike looks amazing!!!

    I just sold my modified 2005 Speedie (in gloss black and gold). It was very similar looking to your 2012. I agree with with your opinion on the tail ends. So I have recently purchased a 2017 Speedie (S) to overcome the tail end issue. It is gloss black and I am painting the rims gloss gold. I have fitted twin SC-Project "silencers" which sound superb. I feel the Triumph management team should be patted on the back for producing such beautiful machines, I and my daughters love them.

    For colour scheme it has to be the metallic gloss orange on the 2010 round light version. Plenty of matte orange but not many gloss orange around. I often get asked if mine is a custom paint job at petrol stations. High level exhausts every time for me.

    In most parts a fair and helpful review. Thorough and well thought out vlog. I agree about the paintwork and plumped for the glittery black 765RS but agree the stickers and red lining aren't the best looking and would have also preferred the classic black with gold rims mix. As for the arrow can - not sure it has made much of difference on mine - the joys of regulations

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes sadly it seems the optional cans on today's Triumphs are constrained by regs - I recently rode a Vance and Hines equipped scrambler back to back with a standard one and I couldn't tell any significant difference! ....you couldn't even remove the baffle from the V&H pipe as it was welded in!!

    • @farazbaber7239
      @farazbaber7239 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheMissendenFlyer indeed, the EU arrow can is welded in although the Triumph website shows a non EU compliant one as an option - whether U.K. Dealers fit them and leave this at your peril come MOT is another matter - but the removable baffle option is there - just not sure it's worth the agro. Great if you could do a Ducati cafe scrambler review at some point - you know the one that looks like a themed JPS set up.

    The back end of the 2017 RS looks more or less like my old 2015 RX which I loved. This is massively better than the dated look of the 2010 Triple I had before that.
    I also had the matt silver paint on my RX and I love this colour. It's also very practical here in Southern Spain!
    I do agree with you on the headlights though.

    Really interesting contrast and compare. I own a 13 Street Triple R in matte gray and I LOVE the looks; I am more attracted to the "R" version for 2018 than the colors offered on the RS version (more the red subframe for the rear vs. silver than anything else).. Like TMF, I am a massive fan of what I already have so there's no urge to get a new bike for me however I am at the same time very interested to stay up on the current offerings and it is content like this that speaks directly to me. Thanks for doing what you do; I along with many others value it very much.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks as ever Scott - and yes that black and red scheme is a looker, if I were going for a Streetie now I think the "R" may be the way to go for that alone...

  • @viktoriol
    @viktoriol 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I stopped at a service on M1 just to see the new vid and it did not disappoint! :)
    I prefer the look of the new bike on the front and the front-side department, but the old one definitely better on the rear side.
    Since I'm a rather big chap (6' 5), I look a bit.. funny on these, but perhaps if the 2018 Speed Triple will come with the TFT, will keep the under-seat exhausts and if they just make it lighter, to at least match the Superduke, I will be hyped as never before.
    Thanks!

    • @iamspartacus8219
      @iamspartacus8219 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheMissendenFlyer That's a hard one to answer, I'm not a track rider, but really got it because it's a premium unit and it was available as an option. It also looks damn cool on a black and gold bike as opposed to the blue one. It's like anything in life, you get what you pay for and Ohlins are arguably the best. On my Trumpet Scrambler I put Bitubo Italian shocks on the rear and they are very good also. I think in the end if you love your bike, you'll want the best on it, hope that helps. Did you find it on the site?

All these bikes r bloody stupendous. But the 2017 model realy does take it to the big boys toys. And beats them into a tin hat. Every bike in my opinion should have the awesome quick shifter. I brought the new street triple when it launched in may, I agree with most you said to be fair, the "looks" on the old made the choice more difficult, but the new upgrades on the 765 won it for me. The noise I think will come when some aftermarket cans are released.

    I've revisited...... My bike is closer to yours in terms of generation I bought a 2014 Street triple in 2016. It was like new, it still is... what a motorcycle the Striple is....Its light , nimble and quick. The suspension cannot be called 'plush',, hard describes it perfectly...which of course makes it great on good surfaces, but awful on rough roads. A little tweaking and experimentation can improve it a little, however its probably best to keep to good roads. Here in España I stay away from 'agricultural roads' as they are usually rough, pot holed and generally in pretty poor repair.! ....Lastly, you're right ....your Striple does sound better...

      Agreed with the paint. The new one just looks plain boring. Good thing about the old one, is you can probably pick one up cheap enough to upgrade the brakes and suspension to near enough spec.
      I am wondering more and more if the cams are what give the new RS it's increased power up top. I would really like to know how the new R feels in comparison with the RS's different cam.

      so big numbers on a screen is hard to read? Let alone more accurate speed readings calculated in micrometers rather than an old speed sensor that has mph discrepancy's hmm. Only robust reliability is the merit to analog milometers.

    Trouble with this is you're comparing the 2012 R to the new RS. Really you want to be comparing it to the new R. This RS has been tuned to have a lot of the power up top, which you don't seem to be in much in this vid, or at least when you did the power comparison bit. The new R is much more like the older models in that the engine's been tuned for the road, so more torque lower down than the RS. Will you be riding the new R? As it sounds like that's the bike for you :)

      I have the STR2017 and I rode the STR2016 and in terms of engine its almost the same. The STR2016 is overpriced. The new one is 2000€ more expensive but the dayling headlights, the slipperclutch (good security measure), better suspension and breaks plus the rider modes (the rain mode ir really helps you to get a grip of a a very powerful machine like a A2 license ST) it's better in terms of value for money vs the old STR2016.

    Personally I think the RS front makes it look like a Mantis, I quite like it. But I also like the older lamps too. I have a black RS which I think looks much better than the silver one. I absolutely hate gold on any vehicle so I'd never agree that it looks good on the old bike. In the end though they are both great looking bikes. If I had a looks complaint on the new bike I don't like the angular, filled in sub-frame and I dislike that the RS has a silver one when the red sub-frame of the R was always a big draw.

    Yet another good review. I'd be happier with the new street because of that handling and brake improvement, but agree your old bike looks better. The cowling on the RS should go altogether. And I think Triumph have missed a trick with the lower spec R and S versions - one at least should mimic Yamaha's MT strategy and be more roadster than sport-naked focused. Higher bars, lowered suspension, single round headlight and keep the rest - no need to go retro and trespass on the Bonnie range. Fast bike but more relaxed to ride.

Not a fan of the oldy worldly persona that they push. Don't like most of the range... They seem to be going back in time whereas most are going forward but that's the retro hipster style atm. Half expecting them to produce some thing with granite wheels next :) ironically the speed and street that are the only ones if own if you put gun to my head and even then it would be the speed over the street. But, having said that they've got their style that lots like and that's good as if they were all the same life'd be pretty boring. So, while not for me I can see why some like them.

    Great video as always Mr TMF! I think I chose well buying my 2016 Street last year. Got the extra bits like the ABS and fuel gauge which the 2012 misses. I like the new 765 but when you compare my red standard red 2016 against the 2017 S model, it just doesn't do it for me and it looks rather bland. The same I feel is with the RS, there's too much black and it looks a bit dull, not enough shiny bits. All I wish for is that I'd have known about the 10th Anniversary 675 and then I could've got a gold one. Overall I'm happy with my 675, unless they bring out a 765 RT version where I could maybe have panniers, some wind protection with a screen and maybe cruise control.
