Great video. I agree, the secret to great VFX is starting practical, and if you can't do that, at least pretend your camera is a physical one bound by the capabilities of a real camera instead of drone footage that freely flies all over the place.
Very insightful video! 😁Gareth does seem to possess the relevant experience needed to translate a property of fiction into believable realism! This was very most apparent in the tones presented in Rogue One. He would be a perfect producer for the anticipated live-action Gundam movie. A bit off topic, but for a realistic Gundam show, I have always wanted to see someone like Mamoru Oshii adapt the gritty novels (of 0079) into a ghost-in-the-shell esque animated film trilogy.
The important thing to Gundam is story and character. With CGI, it is easier than ever to achieve the visuals required of Gundam. Del Toro already proved it years ago with Pacific Rim.
The problem is the mainstream western entertainment industry has, generally, gotten much worst at telling stories.
The blueprint for a Gundam movie should just be MSG0097 with it's premise, plot, characters and themes. It shouldn't be too hard to adapt that into something that worldwide audiences could love. The issue I see is an adaptation having the guts to incorporate the darker elements of Gundam, namely the themes of loss of innocence. I foresee it being a dumb action movie without showing any of the horrors of war that made 0079 so impactful.
Great comment! I think I should do a video covering Gundam's characterization and how that would look on film - again relating it to what Star Wars did and how Gundam would be different.
5:20 that same youtuber also had some composed shots of a Scopedog gliding on the streets, and it really makes me want a VOTOMS live action as well, it's nothing we haven't seen in terms of visual effects, the Scopedog would be easier to do than a Gundam due to scale, they could even use a practical statue,
and speaking of statues, I really hope they make a 1/1 Statue just for the movie, so that we can get non-CGI shots with the Gundam, either on the cockpit or in a hangar
True vfx is fun i love it rockon go gundam😎🍻
They should have hired the guy that did pacific rim. Pacific rim is already a life action gundam movie.
Guillermo Del Toro. Fuck Yeah! He loves Gundam.
@@Skaiser_Wilhelm7938 I was so sad when he was not hired. Their a bunch of idiots
@celularphone The Gundam film has been reportedly picked up by Netflix right now. So, yay! 😑
Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of Netflix movie strategy. I don't see them creating a Gundam story that's faithful to the original source material. Their approach is more about capturing eyeballs, not excellence.
Also, I want a big theatrical release for the Gundam movie rather than a straight to streaming movie. We don't have many Giant robot films anymore, Pacific Rim never made it past a sequel, and the Transformers are no longer the moneymaking powerhouse they once were, it would be better to have a reinvention of the classic genre on the big screen.
If they can improve on the Ready Player One cgi I'd take it.
I am very pessimistic when it comes to live action adaptations. The CGI can look very good, but it's going to be flop, if the writing is done poorly.
PS. I think that if given the money japanese studio could make really good live action Gundam movie, if you take in to the account Godzilla Minus one winning the oscar rewards.
Agreed. Visuals are no longer a barrier to Hollywood. But, they seemed to have forgotten how to write good stories and interesting characters. This goes doubly for big budget sci-fi, which have all just become dumb action movies.
@@fattiger6957 This is so true. I recently watched Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn anime where the visuals, and the writing was really well done.
Ignore him, I had enough of his bullshyt.
