A fun extra level of silliness, for those not familiar with Tengen Toppa, is that many of those Gurren Lagann mechas are piloted by the previous smaller variant. It's not a pilot in a giant mecha, it's a mecha piloting a mecha piloting a mecha piloting a mecha piloting a mecha piloted by a pilot. Like a hilarious case of stacking Russian dolls.
The show has no restraint. It just revels on repeatedly escalating things.
It's works pretty good for the 27 episodes that it has. Also every new mecha GATTAI! Is better than the last one. It gave me the same chills of super Saiyan one transformation, sannin mode and all the power rangers together. If you give a chance you'll see
@@TehButterflyEffect It sounds like it but the execution was so well done that the show ended up being amazing and hella fun.
It helps that the stacked mechas only appear in the latter half of the show

Kick logic to the curb. That's how Team Dai-Gurren rolls.
Wait till you see his drill
I think it's funny how TTGL has (almost) the smallest mecha on one hand and then on the other has multiple galaxy or even universe-scale stuff
The whole idea of the show is that no matter how small you may start, you can become the greatest if you have the strongest will, so it makes sense that it starts the smallest and ends the largest.
Hes right.
Don't just belive in yourself.
Believe in the ME who believes in YOU! 😂
going bigger is the whole premise of the show. and not only the robots. it reflects also the growth of humanity.
Even funnier is that this is kind of the Same mech.
@mhuntprofessional basically don't believe myself, believe someone is greater then you already. So your goal is try to be greater then the great. Once reach that goal. What if the greater has already pass when you reach?
You go chase it once more to go further then anyone else because it is your goal.
Things are getting a little silly when you have machines bigger than the observable universe in your work.
"little"
That's the point. It's very easy to say you have the biggest robot but by not being able to demonstrate it so that people can somehow appreciate it as such, that just takes away every value to what have said. Is the difference between silly talk and make. It reminds of DC fans which are always assuring that Darkseid is better/stronger than Thanos and you're like; *so well, go ahead and let the movies prove that then you can talk with some little more argument but until that just stay quiet*

A little sad not to see any of the Promare mechs, especially the Deus Ex, Lio de Galion or Galo de Lion. Still a really fun list and it was cool to see some older/more niche entries get some deserved love.
That said, vanilla Gurren Lagann's scale is a little... off. It's been a while since watching, but I'm pretty sure it should be big enough to fit someone comfortably in the head.
Well they are using meters and some rough estimations. It wasn't very tall but wide enough that it could fit a few people and everyone always had to be sitting. It always looked a bit cramped for anyone but Simon who was pretty small in his own right.
@@StonedHunter No, no. Gurren Lagann is not 5 meters tall, with that scale, the head would literally be smaller then Lagann, and would not fit simon properly. I believe gurren lagann is like... closer to 10-15 meters? I'll try and dig up some information but it towers over some structures and over people a lot of the time. Note also that gurren lagann (as we see in the transformation sequence) is taller then the sum of it's parts.

@MBS, the reason why the wiki states that TTGL is that big is because: the fight takes place in a pocket universe that is much bigger and more complicated than ours, so those galaxies that you see in the background are actually *GARGANTUAN*. TTGL is described to be 100,000 times bigger than the milkyway galaxy (according to the creators?)
Yeah. Considering galaxies are hundreds of thousands of light years across and they're throwing them around like ninja stars... 🤣
Wtf m8. I clearly stopped watching gurren lagann too soon. I’m about to watch it again to see how it progresses from a little mecha head to that gargantuan thing 👁👄👁
@@summoned_skulll9480 Bro you aint seen the half of it lol. Also, the story gets really good at that point, like the whole reason for that fight and so on so, yes, go watch that. :)
@@summoned_skulll9480 dud you missed the best skaling i‘ve ever seen in an anime
@@lloydsshadow5903 I thought it was just a show about a girl with bouncy boobs wearing bugger all clothes. Might have to look past the first episode
Tengun is that one kid on the playground who always has to one-up your imagined creations.
I hope this gets updated someday just so I can see how the STRIDER from Armored Core 6 compares to the rest of these lol
I wasn't expecting both the Death Egg and BT to be bigger than a Mantis.
And I was ABSOLUTELY not expecting to see Linguini be classified as a Mecha.
I was surprised to find that a Metal Gear is apparently the same size as a Battlemech.
STTGL is absolutely insane thanks to the wonderful art style of the show
I might start watching it…
@@marmaje6953 its life changing
@@Squigi it's not, but a good watch still tho.
@@Comfy_Bed Depends on the person tbh, But TTGL will always be the anime that "Turns boys into men" at least for me lol.
@@Comfy_Bed when you're 17 years old and its your first super robot anime, then it was for me
What stops the super huge Mecha from collapsing into black holes.
i love how at some point it became gurren lagann competing against itself XD
To have anything bigger than a universe is insane
to your puny human brain.
@@LeonSKennedy7777 says the guy who surely travels out side of the universe on the regular
size of an entire galaxy is well within sanity tho of course. :3
@@hraefn1821 a galaxy does not encompass trillions of galaxies now does it?
the observable universe, but yeah kinda like... but why though?
I'm really impressed by how comprehensive this list is. Listing the obvious popular mechas as well as ones from lesser known shows or games.
Sad there were no arms forts from armored core, only one of the smaller mechs
Gurren Lagann gets so absurd by the end it’s awesome
The second I saw Lagann, I knew where this was gonna end up.
Reject the laws of physics, believe in yourself and DO THE IMPOSSIBLE!
Very happy to see _Battletech_ getting some recognition with the Timberwolf, although I'm a little disappointed it wasn't followed up by the Atlas or Annihilator. If this video is all about mechs going big it seems only logical that those beasts of assault mechs should get some mention.
Still, its nice to see the series and its fanbase gaining more visibility and popularity these days. Its a nice change of pace from the overzealous domination _Warhammer 40K_ has had over tabletop games for the last couple decades.
I am not happy with the model chosen for the Timber Wolf. Look how they massacred my boy...
I wanted to see the Blood asp or Ragnarok from mechassault 2
So... what was the 'Vulture' was called again ?
@@matsuhikotakagawa8060 Mad Dog
I'm more upset that they picked a filthy tank-bred mech.
Remember Tukayyid.
Amazing as always. I'm selfishly disappointed that the continent-sized mechas from Xenoblade weren't on there, but that's a quibble. You put Macross on there, and that's all that really matters.
Even the Hovertanks from Southern Cross! But omg the ugliest model of one I'd ever seen.
there was weltall that's also from xeno series
I am surprised the Artifices from Xenoblade are not here. There textbook mechas.
At least Mechonis should’ve been on here
Yessir Macross Baby!!! Impo the VF's are the best Mech designs ever created, that even G1 transformers took the design to be used by jetfire, well the VF-1 Super Valkurie that is.
me: simon, how big do you want your mecha?
simon: fuck yeah..yeah...!! TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN!!! WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?!!!
respect for nerfing tengen toppa and super tengen toppa to keep it fair
Always happy to see Battletech represented. Especially the Timber Wolf
I was happy to the Mad Cat(I will never call it the timberwolf.) But I was expecting to see the Atlas first cuz it's always been considered the tallest of them all.
And yet, we also had the 3025 Shadowhawk (Dougram) and the 3025 Wasp (VF-1 Valkyre) on the List. Praise the unseens ;-)
@@AustinParkerKillulotz14 Despite my distrust of free-birth Inner Sphere denizens, I too am glad that we are represented here. :D
Man mechassault was so good, a reboot would be pretty awesome
Idk what your on about that is the most butt ugly mad cat ive ever seen. look at its fucked up arms. i dont remember the mad cat having 4 arms, do you! Also its called a mad cat clanner
This is the smartest size comparison video I've ever seen. It actually gives me the sense of how big they are by adding those details and surroundings. Amazing
Arc-Gurren Lagann
Dekabutsu
i just came to see the OG Megazord. my life is complete :)
By the end of Gurren Lagann, they were throwing universes at eachother like Frisbees. The author drew them all like Galaxies because "he didn't know how to illustrate an uncountable number of universes"
No loader from Aliens? It certainly counts and is way more iconic than some the smaller mechs shown.
I didn't see the robots from Pacific Rim either.
@@dugjay there was one from Pacific rim, but I think it was one of the smaller ones
@@dugjay gypsi danger the main one was there
Mech, or exoskeleton?
@@brodriguez11000 it's definitely a mech. You pilot it you don't wear it (well really it's just a bipedal forklift but I digress)
Honestly great to see Five Star Stories and Escaflowne represented, they're often overlooked.
I haven't seen escaflowne in over 20 years, it's amazing people still know of these hidden old Gem animes. Today's anime is soo much drama and silliness. Lol 👍👍👍👍
Same. Happy to see Escaflowne too.
How the hell can any single object AT ALL (the largest black hole we know of is only one light week wide) be the size of a GALAXY? Even for fantasy fiction how was that explained?
I'm happy to see Break Blade as well.
Amazing manga. Sadly it got axed.
THIS IS THE CRUEL ANGEL'S THESIS SONG GOSH I'M HYPED
The elevator ride on some of the largest mechs to get to an office would be one heck of a commute
Either because it takes a literal eternity to get there, or you have to break several laws of physics to get there in time.
What I learned from this video :
-Gurren Lagann
-Linguini
Glad to see Gurren Lagann from the beginning all the way the way to being larger than the Observable Universe, its funny and heartwarming, knowing one of the major messages of the show being about the *Indominable Human Spirit*
Also nice to see an Armored Core too, especially when THE ARMORED CORE 6 IS REAAAAAAL
Dude, Gurren Lagann from its release and still to do this day is my number 1 Anime. Just one season. One PERFECT season.
...Now, if some studio in the next century could make a loyal and beautiful rendition of the first couple Arcs of Berserk, Lagann would be easily supplanted.
the indominable human spirit that is made out of getter rays*
Based on how Gurren Lagann is depicted in the anime it seems like it should be quite a bit taller than 5 meters.
YEEEEEESSSS
Also, cool that it even has Temjin.
*ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER!!!*
Outstanding Job!!! 👍
This whole thing is making me regret that I haven't watched Gurren Lagann yet!!
Now I need to see why they are so ridiculously large!!
By the diva model we can see metalball has some “other hobbies” than just size comps 😆
extremely detailed
Wayy to detailed 💀💀💀🗿🗿🗿
Yeah I was like "There she is with her ass hanging out. I can guess this group's side hustle."
You even included Escaflowne, Nirvash, and Xenogears stuff. . Hats off to you!
thats because escaflowne and Nirvash already in super robot wars series.
If one of the Gears was in the SRW series they would be kinda broken, Xenogears would be way more broken than Zeorymer or Neo Granzon.
@@BenunoKagaho Especially Weltall considering what it can turn into...and the level of destruction it can bring out.
Escaflowne is much smaller than I expected. It's always felt much larger than that in the show. However given that Van basically directly controls the arms and legs from the chest cavity I suppose it couldn't be too large.
I was very pleasantly surprised to see Weltall there
this is so fun THANK YOU!
