I'm a Rolex, Breitling, JLC, and Patek watch guy. I love and appreciate what Grand Seiko is doing on the other side of the Pacific Ocean. I felt my watch collection was incomplete without a Grand Seiko. I really looked hard at the Snowflake, but opted for the GS steel GMT High Beat. I don't care much for titanium, wanted the snowy dial, which my GMT has, and...it's pure mechanical and not a quartz hybrid, tho I appreciate the amazing engineering and accuracy this quartz-mechanical offers. I settled on the SBGJ001. Love my GS, and it shares equal wrist time with my other Swiss watches.
I forgot to mention, the sweep of the second hand on the High Beat blows away the stuttery 8 tick per second sweep on my Rolex watches, and....is way more accurate.
When you buy a Lexus, it come with an instruction manual. When you buy a Range Rover, it come with a duffel bag full of Advil.

You can service the highb at your local watchguy when your old and broke.I love that the resale sucks. You should never want to sell a gs.It's disrespectful to the craftsman that built it.They are like a faithful wife of watches and the rolex is the meghan markle prince killer.
I want the GS Snowflake very much. But I just purchased the Omega Seamaster Professional 300m. Guess I have to start saving for the Snowflake. The spring drive tech is a marvel to look at, how smooth the second hand moves. It melts me like snow melted in the sun. Great review Archie. 👍
Grand Seikos have the best dial finishing in the world. They are incredible.
I held the snowflake in my hand for 10 minutes in a store and really tried to look at it from all angles.
It's the most gorgeous watch i've ever seen.. the seconds hand just sweeps.. no ticking.. its mesmerizing..!
The Japanese have been burning rings around the Swiss for some time now where technology is concerned. Now it basically falls down to brand loyalty. There will always be Seiko lovers and haters...….and Omega/Rolex/IWC lovers and haters. But the Japanese are indeed way ahead in mechanical timepiece technology.
Seiko has nowhere near the quality look, fit, and finish of an Omega or a Rolex. Every Seiko I have owned is decent but definitely not on par with a Swiss luxury watch.

SBGA109 is even more accurate than the SBGA011 or 211 now. 9R15 vs 9R65. Having a few Rolexes, they look like toys comparing to my GS's
The grand Seiko with red poison oak dial is one of the most beautiful watches I’ve ever seen. It’s movement is caliber 9s63. The watch is extremely expensive though and hard to get.

I have a few really nice pieces in my collection. A 5 Digit Sub, Tudor Pepsi, a couple Panerai. I bought a Snowflake SBGA211 and I can say woth certainty it's by far THE FINEST timepiece I own. Quality for Price is unmatched. I paid BELOW retail and got a free watch winder. No waiting, no fuss. Easiest transaction ever. Now... We need a rapper to wear one so they become investments.

BTW, my G-Shock only gains +7 sec a month. Not bad for a $120 watch?
A g shock can go with you through military training then 10 deployments to active combat zones in the worst hellholes on the planet and not even need a battery change and run within 10 seconds a month but probably more accurate than that lol. That is why the Casio g shock is the best watch ever made. Yes a sinn or a Breitling may be able to hold up to through the same shit but they don't cost 100 bucks and there's no way they'll be that accurate.
You pay 5k for a GS that would cost 10k if it had Rolex on the front. GS is the bettet watch. All I'm house, every part of the watch. It's all hand assembled. They make less than 65k watches a year. It's a hell of a bargain.
I had their high beats and they are around +2 a day which is great but no different than rolex or omega these days. No point in having a watch wear out faster due to being a high beat when accuracy wise it’s the same as 28,800 from other brands. I since got a snowflake and this shit is amazing! Can’t even put my panerai on after feels like a clunky brick
I own the GS SBGA275 (Spring Drive) and I am blown away by the quality and precision. At £4,500 its a snip and if it was made by Rolex, would easily cost over £10k.

The fact that a lot of folks really thinks that Japan technology and manufacturing can't match freaking Swiss production is insane.
The same Japanese that coming from a lost war and 2 atomic bomb, in few years destroyed everybody in electronics and mechanical (think of motorcycle, or Honda cheap cars who had the best engines on the market), for example.
In the other hand we have freaking Switzerland.... Other than cheese and laundry of dirty money from all around the world, what they can do? Watch....only because it's luxury and fashion market, and they can get away with insane production and selling cost.... In a competitive market they would be daed.

GS is so very underrated. I have the spring-drive, the hi-beat, the quartz,
but, it's the Three Centre Hands Manual Winding mechanism that gives me the
most satisfaction.
The epitome of
high horology is the Three Centre Hands manual wind mechanism, with a long
minute hand, and an even longer second hand. Even in Patek and Lange, the
manual wind watches are either 2 hands or with a sub second hand. They reserved
the Centre Three Hands for their highest range, so high that hardly anyone can
reach them.
For a
connoisseur, a luxury watch maker must have a Three Centre Hands collection in
their stable, the basis of all other good mechanical watches. For GS, there is
the SBGW series. I bought the SBGW231, the latest for 3K. It runs for more than
3 days fully wound, and only off by +1 sec in that three days. The hands and
indices sparkle like diamonds against an equally beautiful custard dial. My
calatrava which cost many times more just cannot match up. The back case has
more details than my Nautilus which is plain. As for the finishing of the
mechanism itself, you put the two together and see for yourself. And mind you,
the Nautilus cast a lot lot more. Then again, both the calatrava and the nautilus
are not the Three Centre Hand mechanism.
You need a
very good mechanism to carry a long minute and second hand. I can see that my
Hulk and Batman has very short minute hand as compared to my other GS sport
watches. Where are all the good man!

Zenith Defy Lab accuracy is +/- 0.3 sec per day and it is purely mechanical....Spring Drive has been replaced as the most accurate non-quartz movement.

Believe it or not,Spring Drive might be the cheaper option.
In addition, 8L55 only comes in "62 MAS" style watches which i dont really like. And they AINT cheap.
Id SIMP for an 8L55 in a Tuna,though.

The Snow flake is a wonderfully light and understated watch to travel with, especially in 3rd world countries. I definitely wear it more often than my PP 5711-1, 5227, VC Overseas, Rolex 114270, 116518, or my Chopard Mille Miglia nowadays.
