I have many watches, including Swiss brands, automatic, quartz and kinetic. I have a Seiko Kinetic that I paid $400 for 10 years ago. Since then, I have paid only $60.00 for a new compressor. Think of the thousands that AC3 has paid for repairs and travel expenses on his Patek. Go with the Seiko and invest the money you save in blue chip stocks.

Arch, i have a couple of Rolex, namely submariner,datejust,gmt master 2 and a daydate. Also gifted with a Patek Philippe by my mother last Christmas. I also bought a seiko skx007 and had it modded. Later moved to collect the prospex mm200 line, and finally buying the snowflake from Grand Seiko. Am i still a loser? PS: I'm not broke. I have a real property business.

I received a Seiko SNE093 for my birthday when I was about 15. To this day (I am now 31), I still have many people looking at my watch and asking me what watch it is, expecting it to be a Rolex but very surprised upon finding out its a Seiko. This watch has been with me through university and even now as a professional I have people in my office who occasionally ask me about my watch. This watch broke a few months ago and I've just re-ordered the same exact one because I feel reluctant to wear any other watch and I feel I have more important priorities right now. When I have paid off the house, I hope to indulge in such a purchase.

If snobbery is your thing, you’re not even financially close to that level. You have a great watch collection but that only works if you have the car, the house and everything else as a whole package. If you have a Patek but live in a rental storage box then your priorities are upside down. The watch or watches should be icing on the cake after you have achieved everything else that I would argue may be more important.
