That's a smart move! Got rid of Swiss made pure relic Patek shi*ter ..and replaced it with a Japanese Seiko with quartz crystal regulated movement in it... Sure got load of cash.., and Japanese high-tech... Grand Seiko of an entirely different millenium (and a load of cash) is no doubt better option than some by-gone-era Patek...
Reading the headline my first thought was You're crazy then, after you explained there was cash involved and your intention was to pay down your mortgage I realized that was the right choice. Keep it up Archie, get clear of the house debt and get on with your life.

I've seen more of those on Coles CheckOut Operators, than any other watch! They can't ALL be Genuine, now can they? Keep The Speedmaster, the BEST watch in The World, the Polar Explorer, Th' J.L.C & the G.S. Just remember this, The G.S like the Patek, is A Very Finicky Watch. The G.S. is better suited as A Daily Ticker, but ALL G.S. require frequent servicing of 3 Years MINIMUM & there ain't no G.S. service centre in Oz. Service for G.S. is Japan ONLY, if You want to keep the Warranty Current & it ain't cheap. Easily North of 2K. Think about it, Pauli, O.K?

If I was you, I would pay back debt, sell ALL luxury goods and other stuff clustering your daily life and keep only two time pieces: A JLC Reverso (the most elegant watch) and a beater (A Seiko, Casio or Rolex). Just a thought.
With the money remaining, pay for your children’s education and traveling Asia. Just a thought.

Big mistake to let go off he classic Patek Philippe 5196, IMHO. Nothing against the GS, but it's no replacement for the Patek. The robbery has left scars, my friend. Hope you'll find your watch mojo back.
Agreed on the fact that a mortgage can be a b*tch. I was lucky enough to rehypothecate mine from variable to 1.1% fixed for the rest of the duration, before interest started to go balistic beginning of 2022. I saw it coming. I'm sticking to my pieces but not buying anything in current economic climate unless the market crashes (SOTC: YM40 116622, TTSub41 126613LB, SD43 126600, VC Patrimony 85180).
