Great list and all but I’m shocked (pun not intended) that not a single yellow pikmin made it to the top tier. Have you considered that yellow pikmin are just funny little guys? I think that’s sufficient enough for always wanting them
literally grinded yellow pikmin out in pikmin 4 just because i liked how they looked and i loved the fact i could throw them higher and not have to make oatchi smash his head into a wall
I can’t be the only one who thinks the winged pikmin pathing in 4 is soooo bizarre like sometimes I take the time to see what shortcuts they take if any and they usually take none of just follow routes grounded pikmin take
I feel like a good way of balancing them would have been to make them keep being able to fly over a lot of stuff but make them so that they're two times weaker than a normal pikmin, meaning instead of needing one winged pikmin to carry a thing you need two
Y'all forgot to mention that purples in 2 have stun even if the enemy doesn't die it can't do anything about it, also allowing you to swarm or just spam all your pikmin on to it
I actually didn't use ice Pikmin because it felt cheap. So yeah, they're definitely OP. I agree about Purples in 2 also. I treated them more like I was escorting a VIP than using them to fight.
@@darksentinel082 But you'll very quickly reach the point where you don't need more Pikmin of the types you have onions for, and that's without even bringing the rewind feature into it. At that point, it actually becomes more advantageous to get the nectar from the ice pikmin than to leave a body when you don't need it anyways.
I feel like in 2 the idea with purples was to make them super OP so that their loss meant something; the theory is that if you invest them, they die easier. Maybe some sort of Glass Pikmin could be made that had the abilities of a P2 Purple, in return for dying at literally anything, even occasionally from an enemy missing them entirely?
Couldn’t agree more with the Ice Pikmin placement. I couldn’t tell you how much I disregarded the suggested list going into caves, just to bring a large group of these guys in there. Freezing enemies and bosses saved my entire army so many times it’s unreal!
@@toxicpurple0742 It really says something about a level in a videogame franchise being the only one in the whole franchise in general where I have to look up a guide for to even complete it after literally 10 whole hours of trial and error. I would go as far as saying that it is the most difficult challenge in the entirety of pikmin. Yes, that includes the entirety of Hey!Pikmin, that includes the challenge modes of 3, that includes all of the bosses and notorious dens from 2, and that INCLUDES smoky progg from 1. And even if you agree to disagree with this take, doing it gearless (or only with the ones that are actually required) and the same thing with oatchi skills (or only with the ones that are actually required) 100% *IS* the hardest thing to do in the entirety of pikmin. Good luck transporting 100 weight across an entire walkaround and then some, whilst being forced to win against (or at least reduce it to its second phase of) another waterwraith fight, legitimately every single resistance in the game but poison, different walkaways that you cant diversively focus on or else you run out of time, with the least amount of gear AND oatchi skills *AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE.* In less than 5 minutes. And thats just for completion, you need to do it in less than 3.5 minutes to get a platinum. *NO WONDER THEY GIVE YOU THE TWO MOST BUSTED PIKMIN TYPES IN THE GAME TO DO IT.* If you replaced Ice with *LITERALLY ANY OTHER PIKMIN BUT PURPLES* (and obviously glows because you of course cant use items during trials) this wouldve actually been impossible. If they even put a *SINGULAR PIECE* of dry ice in this trial in a stupid spot like the corner with all those small bulborbs or past the enemy defeat gate (so you cant jump up with oatchi from the other side until you actually have lowered said gate) this would be impossible to complete and just legitimately unfair.
Interesting, I used whites in Pikmin 4 quite a lot so that I could carry things faster. I would often explore with purples (to kill things quickly), whites (to carry things quickly) and the third type would depend on the enviroment
Me too, I definitely agree that they're pretty situational given that you can only take out 3 pikmin types and having one that is only for moving materials can sometimes be hard to justify. But white pikmin at the VERY least should be ranked higher than winged pikmin.
@@thecataking6933 Agreed. Sadly winged pikmin got nerfed. Often times I would use them because I expected them to take a quicker route while carrying stuff, but they ended up taking the same route from everyone else
@@caioleite5579 ya, there just aren't a lot of moments where winged pikmin get to shine in this game. Their best uses come from collecting materials during specific Dandori missions but those are moments specifically catered to using winged pikmin.
My usual came out to purples (to bring things back efficiently), white (to bring things back quickly), and flying (to bring things back safely) Other than those three, one of which I always had regardless, my most often used was actually blue of all colors, my reasoning being “well the other three can collect whatever I need unless it’s underwater” Other than that I kept reds around for combat and didn’t use ice much cuz I didn’t really have a lot and didn’t want to risk losing them all at once, and by the time I got the cyan onion I already had like 300 reds and 400 blues
White's in 2 are the most underrated Pikmin imo with 4 positives and no negatives. I'd put it over Wings in 4 because of that. They are the best in 2 at transporting non heavy objects They are the best at sacrificing if you plan on doing that They are the only one to find buried treasure (and dig faster in 2) and of course are immune to poison hazards. The nerf in damage and digging I think hurt whites more than the buff of having more poison enemies did. Overall good list otherwise.
Same like white's are genuinely just good and I'll often bring em in two or 4 because of how quick they are whether that be for carrying stuff setting off traps, and of course even dodging or testing against bosses they're good definitely should be a bit higher
It's slander to call Pikmin 2 whites situational when they are the one type you'd want to take in every single cave even in small numbers. Also they got done dirty by 2 and 3 because on their debut they are the dandori kings in a game without time limits, and in the next game they have been replaced by winged pikmin which go at the same speed and can go over water. Also let's not act like having whites carry treasure in the wistful wild caves isn't the best strategy because they can outrun most dropping hazards.
With purples in Pikmin 2, I've already accepted that I'll need to grind for the doomsday apparatus so I bring at least 20 of them with me everywhere. If any of them die it'll only extend the grind by a couple minutes.
I think that’s pretty fair. However, I do think that them being SO ridiculously scarce does make you want to save them, regardless of the doomsday apparatus.
I’ve used purples in 2 every time I can and haven’t cared too much about preserving them. Like even if you use every purple candypop bud and never lose a single one, I’m pretty sure the grind is still 100% necessary. Purples in 4 are honestly more broken even without the onion. They gave us a ton of candypop buds for them, and the use of Oatchi’s rush and ice Pikmin can make them even better
@@dylanholm9995 From what I've heard from my very Pikmin-knowledgeable sister, there are exactly 100 Purple Pikmin in Pikmin 2 by the time you get to the Wistful Wild if you don't lose any or repeat caves.
I'm not sure I'd rank the Ice Pikmin quite that high; while the extra nectar is nice, I generally value enemy corpses higher, so I ended up only pulling out Ices when I specifically needed to freeze water or to freeze an enemy whose pattern I couldn't quite get. I'd also bump the Pikmin 4 Winged up to the bottom of the tier above just due to the amount of verticality in the levels and the convenience of letting them do automated tasks in areas with lots of ledges.
you can just whistle the pikmin off when the enemy is at a sliver of health and then finish it off when it's unfrozen, totally negates that drawback and still is OP
Even then the detail with the corpses only applies to the surface. Underground, the Sparklium gain is negligible early game and irrelevant in the later part of the game (unless its an any% run, in which case idk)
@@GamingEelektross Valid point, valid point, but please consider: tractor beam noise and number go up makes serotonin go brr. :-P I'm sure most people get plenty of satisfaction out of shattering frozen enemies, but having been conditioned to Always Collect the Bodies it just _feels_ wasteful, you know?
Winged in 4 have the least uses, literally like one dandori challenge, one dandori story, and like one treasure in dirty water. They only give you 10 earlier on and aren’t necessary for anything. Most of the time they don’t even have special routes to save time just float along the normal path all pikmin use. You can literally beat the whole game without even plucking one
Honestly, I beat the final Boss of Pikmin 4 with only Glow Pikmin and Purple Pikmin. I had 5 Rocks and 5 Whites along for the memes but all the rocks and 1 white died and I benched the other 4 whites next to the S.S Beagle.
I beat the final boss with 100 Rock Pikmin no deaths. I have no regrets with what I did. Even though I had to hit the boss four times each phase. No regrets.
My first playthough I just had a balanced squad and lost a lot, second playthrough I did olimars tale early and brought in 80 purples. Needless to say the second run was quite a bit more effective.
nawww it isn't for me because how is whites in 2 worse than whites in 4 when whites in 4 now have 0.5 damage and run a bit slower so how is whites in 2 worse????
I think rock pikmin in 4 are at the top of extremely situational. You use them a time or two in sage leaf, and then what? Like, 2 crystal walls in the 5th area? Maybe in a cave a time or two? They’re just completely outclassed by purples outside of crushing but those times are few and far between
I would NOT have gotten through pikmin 4s submerged castle without glow pikmin. I lost 104 blue pikmin in that cave and was only able to get through by using my glow pikmin seeds. So helpful and a MUST USE for that cave if you want to get through in one go.
@@CannonKid if you aren't on oatchi the waterwraith can actually kill a lot of pikmin asap due to it's crushing properties, after loosing a bunch they probably found wild ones and that's also why the loss is over 100
I think people misunderstand purps and whites in pikmin 3. Like they’re only in mission mode which is all about being fast thus putting a focus on their carrying ability makes them not terrible in that case.
The issue is that it's all they do. The carrying is only relevant because they design the missions to require it, and when you do get a chance to use them for anything else they flop.
yellow in pikmin 1 and wings in pikmin 4 are just keys that take up room in your army, like they aren't there to do anything but open a door, and the only reason you might bring them is because you think you'll encounter said door (which is annoying for wings because of the three pikmin type limit in 4)
Whites are super helpful for carrying things in 4. Heck I’d say there better than winged most of the time. The only times I prefer winged is in dandori. Maybe 1 or 2 caves but white Pikmin can get the job done just as good or faster.
I hardly ever used purples out of fear of losing them because of the doomsday apparatus specifically, so I felt your argument there hard. That said, I was also trying to do a deathless run, so it was a little silly of me in retrospect. hoarder behaviour or something. I will say something that's pretty cool about whites and winged in 4 is that super spicy spray gives them a x1 attack multiplier (as it does w every other pikmin) and increases their attack speed as well, which they already have a lot of, so they are both a little stonk when you give them the fun juice. 100 spicied wings can be charged into the sovereign bulblax and kill it in one cycle. Not really a situation you can find yourself in realistically though since you get so few of them and the onion is only obtainable in the final level :P
I’m convinced Nintendo doesn’t know how to balance rocks and reds (the battle pikmin) properly as long as purples exist. They are either too good and invalidate the two or are useless, purples disadvantage is that they are slow but oatchi nullifies this downside
I pretty much agree 100% with this list with the exception of maybe putting 3's Reds a tier or two lower, I found that they were outclassed by Greys for combat and that fire hazards were quite rare in 3. They felt like the one type that I avoid bringing with me most of the time.
I honestly never used glow pikmin anywhere other than the final cave to replace any other pikmin I lost during it. You only get them in night expeditions and you don't really need to do any of them more than once unless you want more glows to use in caves. I would have put them above Pikmin 4 blues in the same tier. Don't get me wrong, they are amazing but taking them out is slower than the Pikmin 3 throwing animation so unless you don't have enough pikmin to kill a boss, you'd already have it killed using other pikmin in the same time it would have taken to take out the amount you want. They have the bonus of not counting towards the death count though which is nice.
>"I don't want to have Purples at all times because I don't want them to die" >99.9% of enemies in Pikmin 2 die before they can even get off a single attack if you have Purples ?????????
The thing is, it doesn't matter if Blues are good at what they do, you use them because you're *forced to* not because you want to. If there are better options, you use them, not Blues. I personally never wanted to use them, they were just kind of, there...
In the context of the game, this distinction doesn't really matter. You still want to propagate blue pikmin, and you're going to be getting value out of them. You can only judge how useful each type is by rhe actual situations presented
I kinda compare Pikmin quality like how I compare HM moves in Pokemon. Like yeah there are good/great HM moves like Surf and Fly, acceptable ones like Strength and Rock Climb, and then there's _Cut_ . Blue Pikmin feels like the Cut HM of the Pikmin franchise; sure it's "necessary" to progress through the game in some areas, but by God you will ditch it the first opportunity you get to replace them with generally better Pikmin in literally every other situation.
doesn’t this go for every pikmin in every situation? it’s good dandori to use the best pikmin in the best situation. for example, i only use yellows to destroy electric gates - i only use them when i have to. i only use whites to clear poison or for transport of light objects, i only use them when i have to. i only use purples if i need to quickly kill an enemy or transport heavy objects - when i have to. the only pikmin i think id always use is ice because of how broken they are. the whole point of pikmin is to use them when they’re needed - i don’t know why it’s only a problem for blues
@@welkin7321 Whites, can poison enemies. Yellows, thrown higher so they can be useful in certain situations (this one may be a stretch). Red, more attack power. Purple, just overpowered. Rocks, more attack power. Winged, can sometimes replace Blues and can take shortcuts (except in 4 where they're stupid). Ice, can freeze enemies. Those are all situations where you don't *need* to use them, but you may want to. Blues need a buff.
@@welkin7321 put it this way; after you use your Pikmin to remove whatever hazard or collect whatever treasure that you need it for, would you still want to keep the Pikmin around? If the answer is no, that's a problem, which is what Blue Pikmin throughout the series typically face once you no longer have a reason to go back into the water.
I get the sentiment of putting purples in 4 above purples in 2 but to get their onion you have to complete Olimar's Shipwreck Tale and that's not something a lot of players (including myself) bothered/will bother to do.
bro spent a bunch of time on the last night mission when i just freaking sat there and grew my pikmin numbers won with 7 glow pikmin and being threatened by a smoky progg
Never did get why wallywogs are dangerous. They’re just very time consuming. You can loop them and have them hop in the same spot without purples. I think you can do this in 1 as well.
Honestly I found ice pikmin to be more OP then glows even, glows are definitely my favorite pikmin type because their so good but also so limited based on how well you do in night missions, meanwhile ice pikmin are kinda shoved down your throat early on and by the time the number of wild ones might dwindle, you find the ice onion I could spawn 30 of my glow Pikmin in a cave, but then id need to propegate 150 more in night mode to make up for the loss, while 30 ice pikmin wont be left behind and will insta freeze pretty much any enemy, so i end up wanting to save glow Pikmin for when I really need it, like the final cave
Also entirely agree with purples from 2, I love the feeling of having a shotgun ready to blast but wanting to make sure I have enough ammo for when it counts, which is very similar to how I view glows in 4
So i did a red pikmin and oatchi only run in pikmin 4 (i allowed myself to use glow pikmin i needed to cure bernard to unlock hero's hideaway but i can only use them at night) i can get almost every treasure, except for a few. and Ice, rock, white and blue are not needed even ONCE. (we need blue pikmin to 100% but we only need them so that we can turn them into purples but technically you can also use glow pikmin so they really aren't needed after all.) The winged pikmin are needed for 3 Treasures. for 2 treasures yellows are required. and for a whopping 22 treasures and 3 castaways and the ability to beat the game purples are required. (i also allowed myself to use different pikmins in the dandori challenges because they are NOT my pikmins.)
This purples take is absolutely deranged, they are so valuable I’d dismiss my entire team to run around a cave level with just 10 purples destroying everything so I have full control and don’t lose any.
If you’re not playing Pikmin 4 with Ice Pikmin alway in your party you’re playing the game incorrectly fr 🗿 Also: 1. Ice Pikmin’s onion is found in a freezer so bonus points 2. They’re literally infinite nectar farms, if you shatter a frozen enemy it drops a glob of nectar, and if you shatter a mini boss with it, it’ll drop tons of nectar and super spicy spray
@@bluecoralkraken same, that made me hate Ice Pikmin and use them less often. I almost always have Rock Pikmin in my squad, since combined with Oatchi’s rush, they demolish creatures easily.
4’s Yellows should probably go below 3’s Yellows or at least in Situational or in the low section of the tier above that, they are basically only useful for some electric enemies or traps/electric walls but the bomb rocks are used by captains now and you can just use Oatchi or when using Moss in Shipwreck tale to dig things faster or as effective as yellows, Oatchi can even destroy electric stuff for you when you get Electric Guard for him which makes yellows even less useful. Even a lot of items in high places can be grabbed by Wing Pikmin later on or knocked down by Oatchi/Moss’ rush.
You forgot the second player machine gun of death pebbles, (fun thing i found out, if you drone and continue time you can shoot and you can use carrots to activate buttons around the map, cheesing a lot of the puzzles)
But Spicy Spray in pikmin 4 makes Rock Pikmin actively worse in combat. All damage multipliers are removed by spicy spray in 4, red’s and Purple’s lose their 1.5x multiplier and Rocks lose their 3x multiplier. I think Oachi Rock Rush alone is enough to put them at least a tier higher because 3x times impact rush multiplier is so ludicrous that no enemy can survive, I find myself taking rocks in pretty much every situation purely because nothing can survive them after you get Mega Rush.
I agree with ice pikmin being so powerful in the game. however... hear me out: there should've been more ice variant enemies. having only a few borbs and blowhogs didn't feel like it merited ice enemies whatsoever at that point bc they barely show up unless you're in certain caves and dandori sections. and even then, not ALL of them require ice pikmin. you can launch reds/purples at 'em and with the ice borbs (in the later caves) you could launch a firestarter at 'em and thaw 'em out easily.
Something I could had to Ice Pikmin is that in Dandori when your given Ice Pikmin if you use them to kill an enemy so that the corpse just doesn’t exist then it don’t count in the final score and that is a mechanic that I really like because it makes a lot of sense
I see other TH-camrs with ranked the pikmin and purples are always the top pikmin of their choice, except 3, of being overpowered. I used yellows in pikmin 2 fighting against the doomsday apparatus just focusing on getting parts that would kill yellow, leaving electricity last. Then without machine parts just used leaf yellow pikmin and beat it.
Blue pikmins in pikmin 1 are good only because they are absolutely required, it’s like saying the small key is the best item in legend of zelda purely because it’s absolutely necessary
In 2, for me Purples were at the top, whites in good when you have them, and all others were in extremely situational. To your comments that you don't want to lose purples... then don't lose them. You overpower nearly everything in Pikmin 2 with purples to the point that your purples are not in danger. Seriously though, you can kill an Emperor Bulblax with 20 purples before it finishes emerging from the ground. If you are losing purples to non-boss enemies... get good dude, 2 is just more fun with purples. And the speed with which flowered whites carry stuff around is not to be trifled with. You can just not kill some stuff and have whites carry items through enemies before the enemies can properly react. I like the rest of the list. I didn't find myself using purples that much in 4 because of the limited number of types on the field, but perhaps I should give them a better try.
This is a very well put together list and I agree with pretty much everything in the tier list, including the reasoning. Honestly this isnt even that controversial in my opinion.
I think the ice pikmin having nerfed damage evens it out pretty well, I'd personally always use purple, red, or rock pikmin to just kill stuff faster instead of using ice pikmin to freeze it. Especially since frozen enemies don't leave corpses. Speaking of rock pikmin, I think they're underrated in 4. Having Oatchi charge and hitting an enemy with a billion rocks to the face is pretty deadly. Their added survivability is also much appreciated, as I am stupid. If it weren't for Oatchi's charge though yeah they'd be useless.
personally whites in 2 and yellows in three should be three tiers higher, and having purples in 2 be above 4 because pikmin 4 is still easy without purples while pikmin 2's balance centers around the use of purples. Also whites in 4 should be below purples in 3 due to purples in 3 being helpful to carry items, while everything a white in 4 does is outclassed still by wings and the half 0.5x damage. making it the only type in 4 where i rarely used them even in the final area.
Saying that you don't want Purple Pikmin in Pikmin 2 at all times because you have ti protect them more because of the doomsday apparatus, is like saying thay you don't want two kidneys because it is easier to protect just one. It makes no sense.
I can see why Purples and Whites from 3 are garbage, but I personally think they’re extremely useful for the challenges they’re in. They allow for good dandori - you can place purples on heavy treasures to allow ten other pikmin to finish other tasks, and whites can destroy golden nugget piles extremely quickly. While they aren’t amazing, I personally wouldn’t say they are utter garbage but I understand why y’all would consider them as such!
Honestly I quite like this list. There are only two changes I would personally make really. I would say bulbmin S and p2 white pikmin in good to have a majority of the time. Bulbmin obviously just because woo they beat every hazard and are free to get, but whites deserve some explanation. Watching a few playthroughs recently and replaying the game reminded me how strong their poison is. Legitimately the quickest way to beat multiple bosses is just letting them eat like 5 white pikmin, some just immediately die for not that much cost. Poison being a rare hazard and especially with bulbmin being able to sub for whites in some caves mean that whites almost work like a consumable bomb. The carry speed is obviously quite impressive too. I feel like people just protect them too much, they honestly provide more value when you do the opposite. Pikmin 4 whites could also maybe be up a tier, the poison isn't as crazy as p2 whites but the carry speed is a lot more relevant with the raw material and gold piles being prevalent. That one is more preference though. Edit: Ig blues in general could also go down now that I think about it, they do a unique job but they don't really do it well. In all cases outside of pikmin one you can generally use other pikmin for most of what they do and the other pikmin will do it the same or better, especially flying in 3 and ice pikmin/buffed oatchi in 4. I just did a low day count run, not super hardcore, but 3 days per area to 100% the game, and I barely used blues. It was much more efficient to just have oatchi grab most of the water treasures.
Move whites from 2 up 3 or 2 tiers because they are very versatile. They run quick, Poison enemies, immune to poison, and this time around they didn`t have 0.5 damage. Whites from 4 should be a tier below 2 because they are slower and have 0.5 damage. Blues from 3 should be utter garbage because wing pikmin hard out class them because they go above water making whenever you need blues is just for about 3 water enemies or a completely sunken treasure. yellows in 1 better then blues in 1 because you want to have bomb rocks a lot and the throw Hight is pretty useful to get a lot of treasures. (Also, bulbmin go up a tier because bulbmin and you can't argue with that face, and I feel like you are heavily overrating blues)
Not a bad list but personally most of the time Blue Pikmin are needed it’s Highly situational to me. Still I understand it considering Blues are the ones that are “on the weaker side”
Lowkey pikmin 1 yellows are underrated Bombs are so good at anything from killing wollywogs and bulbears with ease or nuking a group of sheerwigs But yeah over all amazing list
yeah people say they're situational but like if crushing bulbears and wollywogs, breaking hard walls specially in forest navel, getting treasures you wouldn't get without using them and anhilating the final boss are considered situational then what about reds and blues lol
Ngl I’m 90% through Pikmin 4 and have pretty much never used purple Pikmin and glow Pikmin, maybe I should do another run using them as much as possible to see if they’re really that good…
19:35 New players don't know about the Doomsday Apparatus, so they end up spamming Purples anyway, and I'm pretty sure that for most people, their first playthrough of Pikmin 2 is their _only_ playthrough of Pikmin 2. Also, wouldn't people grind for Purples anyway even before that because of just how powerful they are? Even then, standard practice among repeat players (as far as I've heard from the community) is that you're going to want a lot of Purples _all of the time._ That is _community consensus._ 24:40 Didn't they lose their stunlock in 4? Am I imagining that? I'm pretty sure their stun is one of the most powerful aspects in 2. 26:20 Conveniently sidesteps the question 🤔.
i consider ice to be utter garbage. Outside of freezing water i never want them for combat. weak attack plus no corpse is just the worst. It trivializes most fights if you go all in on ice. They aren't good at fighting their own hazards and limit your elemental coverage for other hazards. They are less efficient to transport stuff than if you just use blues. the only time freezing water is viable is when you need oatchi to jump up a ledge or if its mud and wings cant get around it. They suck for dandori since breaking corpses ruins your scores. its only use is for carrying and making paths (which other types can do better to some degree). Ice pikmin to me feel like if bamboo gates was the only thing winged pikmin were used for.
no way i am in the thumbnail i cannot belive it no way i cant belive i am flabbergasted right now no way i cant belive it no way i am flabbergasted right now
If you don't use purples in 2 because you don't want them to die, that's kind of a you problem. In my opinion, a tier list should assume that a player has the skill to use the type effectively. A type's advantages are moot if you lack the skill to use them. And if you're skilled enough, you won't lose them frequently. Grinding purples is tedious, but very easy. If you want to make the game as easy as possible, which I believe should be the context considered in a tier list, then it is objectively the optimal course of action. Wanting to avoid tedium introduces subjectivity, which, depending on your goals for your tier list, is not a good thing. Also, you always have to grind anyway, because the game doesn't give you enough violet candypop buds before Wistful Wild. If you do lose a lot of purples, that only adds one or two trips through the Subterranean Complex, when you are devoting time in an in-game day to Subterranean Complex grinding already. You get 15 purples per trip, so you can lose 30 purples throughout the game and only add a mere two trips, which adds barely any in-game time. In summation, I greatly disagree with your reasoning and agree with your co-host, assuming that your goal for your tier list is objectivity. If this is a subjective list, then fine enough.
people sleep on pikmin 3 purples way too much. people expect them to be combat pikmin which they aren’t anymore in 3, they’re transport pikmin and they are very good at it. being able to carry ten times their weight means two purple pikmin can carry any object in the game (the only exception being the sandbelching meerslug corpse, which weighs 30, everything else ways 20 or less) this is low key broken and in my opinion makes them the third best pikmin in 3 behind rocks and of course wings. yes they suck in combat im not gonna argue that but they allow you to carry so many objects without using up a substantial amount of your army and imo that makes them very worthwhile. of course if you had only purples in your army they would suck but you could just carry 10-15 purples then have stronger combat pikmin fill in the remaining slots so you could carry back fruit without having to decrease your combat pikmin numbers. all the mission mode stages with them kinda revolve around them since you have so little pikmin that being able to carry ten times weight is invaluable. kinda went off there but it’s something i feel very strongly about. pikmin 3 purples do not suck
I highly disagree on where you put Rock Pikmin from 3 and 4. The Rock Pikmin need better ranks... The next section is about Pikmin 4 rankings. Winged Pikmin are sadly not as good as they were. They no longer have that good pathing, and I almost never used them because they suck in combat. Blues were used only the times I needed them. It’s good that they got their own area and were introduced early. Glow Pikmin are like Bulbmin, but better. I never used Glow Pikmin, only on night expeditions I used them. Also I did a not death run, so that’s also why. I lost one Red Pikmin somehow on Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale, and did not notice, so L for me. The Ice Pikmin’s shattering corpses was not good, and I only used that in caves. Also I hated Purple Pikmin, and only used them when needed. Purples seem overpowered, and I wished they were nerfed, and I wish Rock Pikmin could become the combat champion again... All other Pikmin are ranked good. (Red, Yellow, White.)
The only thing I disagree with is Purples from 4 being the best of the best. I agree that they’re really good, but I’d consider both glow, ice, and purples from 2 better. I’d even consider putting purples from 4 as the top of the tier below.
Purples in 2- Using them makes the game ridiculously easier, faster, and more efficiently. The amount of time you’d save using them would easily trump the time needed to grind more if you lose them. Holding off on using them for nearly the entire game because of one treasure requirement is handicapping yourself. If you don’t want to use them because they are broken that’s fine, but not using them for fear of having to grind for maybe 10 minutes at the end of the game is crazy. No hate, just don’t agree with not using them out of fear.
Great list and all but I’m shocked (pun not intended) that not a single yellow pikmin made it to the top tier. Have you considered that yellow pikmin are just funny little guys? I think that’s sufficient enough for always wanting them

Yea I don't understand them
Pretty sad, they probably just wanted to prevent them being mandatory for every level for best dandori
I feel like a good way of balancing them would have been to make them keep being able to fly over a lot of stuff but make them so that they're two times weaker than a normal pikmin, meaning instead of needing one winged pikmin to carry a thing you need two
@@Cigmacica but how whoud it look? also one word fractions

i believe we did i just cut it out for whatever reason (we argued about pikmin 2 for a WHILE)
I actually didn't use ice Pikmin because it felt cheap. So yeah, they're definitely OP.
I agree about Purples in 2 also. I treated them more like I was escorting a VIP than using them to fight.
I feel like ices are slightly balanced with not getting the corpse when they die while frozen. Only slightly though.

Good luck transporting 100 weight across an entire walkaround and then some, whilst being forced to win against (or at least reduce it to its second phase of) another waterwraith fight, legitimately every single resistance in the game but poison, different walkaways that you cant diversively focus on or else you run out of time, with the least amount of gear AND oatchi skills *AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE.*
In less than 5 minutes.
My usual came out to purples (to bring things back efficiently), white (to bring things back quickly), and flying (to bring things back safely)
Other than those three, one of which I always had regardless, my most often used was actually blue of all colors, my reasoning being “well the other three can collect whatever I need unless it’s underwater”
Other than that I kept reds around for combat and didn’t use ice much cuz I didn’t really have a lot and didn’t want to risk losing them all at once, and by the time I got the cyan onion I already had like 300 reds and 400 blues
White's in 2 are the most underrated Pikmin imo
with 4 positives and no negatives.
I'd put it over Wings in 4 because of that.
They are the best in 2 at transporting non heavy objects
They are the best at sacrificing if you plan on doing that
They are the only one to find buried treasure (and dig faster in 2)
and of course are immune to poison hazards.
Also just a little + to it. Since they’re faster they’re also better at dodging attacks from enemies like for example the wollywogs/wollyhops
Regarding the Ice Pikmin I actually found myself avoiding using them in combat because I wanted to collect the enemies corpse
For the next game, how about making rock Pikmin destroy the ice in combat after ice Pikmin freezes them in order to get the enemy corpse
@@QnjtGWonQNqVsbYyzjx4 That’s a good idea

I’ve used purples in 2 every time I can and haven’t cared too much about preserving them. Like even if you use every purple candypop bud and never lose a single one, I’m pretty sure the grind is still 100% necessary.
Purples in 4 are honestly more broken even without the onion. They gave us a ton of candypop buds for them, and the use of Oatchi’s rush and ice Pikmin can make them even better
I believe even if you don’t lose any purples you still only get to 85
@@dylanholm9995 From what I've heard from my very Pikmin-knowledgeable sister, there are exactly 100 Purple Pikmin in Pikmin 2 by the time you get to the Wistful Wild if you don't lose any or repeat caves.
@@syweb2no that's not true, you still need to grind for those 100 even if none of your purples die
I'm not sure I'd rank the Ice Pikmin quite that high; while the extra nectar is nice, I generally value enemy corpses higher, so I ended up only pulling out Ices when I specifically needed to freeze water or to freeze an enemy whose pattern I couldn't quite get. I'd also bump the Pikmin 4 Winged up to the bottom of the tier above just due to the amount of verticality in the levels and the convenience of letting them do automated tasks in areas with lots of ledges.
ima be honest i totally forgot that ice pikmin shatter the corpses when we were making the tier list. that’s a good point!
you can just whistle the pikmin off when the enemy is at a sliver of health and then finish it off when it's unfrozen, totally negates that drawback and still is OP
Even then the detail with the corpses only applies to the surface. Underground, the Sparklium gain is negligible early game and irrelevant in the later part of the game (unless its an any% run, in which case idk)
Once you get around 20 in your squad, they pretty much are just a bitter spray on every enemy. I think they got ranked perfectly.

No regrets.
I beat it with rocks and purple lmao
My first playthough I just had a balanced squad and lost a lot, second playthrough I did olimars tale early and brought in 80 purples. Needless to say the second run was quite a bit more effective.
This definitely feels like the most agreeable tierlist out there at least to me

I think rock pikmin in 4 are at the top of extremely situational. You use them a time or two in sage leaf, and then what? Like, 2 crystal walls in the 5th area? Maybe in a cave a time or two? They’re just completely outclassed by purples outside of crushing but those times are few and far between
Purples in 3 suck for a lot, but since they still carry 10, they're not garbage.
you guys handled R Y B very well but the bulbmin pick gave me a migraine
I would NOT have gotten through pikmin 4s submerged castle without glow pikmin. I lost 104 blue pikmin in that cave and was only able to get through by using my glow pikmin seeds. So helpful and a MUST USE for that cave if you want to get through in one go.
dandori issue
the cave is sickeningly easy compared to 2, it’s difficult to even spawn the wraith in engulfed
I got through the cave with no deaths not even rewinding once, how did you lose 104 Blue Pikmin?
@@CannonKid if you aren't on oatchi the waterwraith can actually kill a lot of pikmin asap due to it's crushing properties, after loosing a bunch they probably found wild ones and that's also why the loss is over 100

I feel so enriched by this discussion about the funny plant guys
I think people misunderstand purps and whites in pikmin 3. Like they’re only in mission mode which is all about being fast thus putting a focus on their carrying ability makes them not terrible in that case.
Yup, the white pikmin are stellar for piles of gold nuggets, and purple pikmin are big players in bringing fruit back to base.
The issue is that it's all they do. The carrying is only relevant because they design the missions to require it, and when you do get a chance to use them for anything else they flop.
@@SPZ-gv2onso, extremely situational at least
yellow in pikmin 1 and wings in pikmin 4 are just keys that take up room in your army, like they aren't there to do anything but open a door, and the only reason you might bring them is because you think you'll encounter said door (which is annoying for wings because of the three pikmin type limit in 4)
Bro you lose 5 purples enter 2 caves with purples
Whites are super helpful for carrying things in 4. Heck I’d say there better than winged most of the time. The only times I prefer winged is in dandori. Maybe 1 or 2 caves but white Pikmin can get the job done just as good or faster.
Hard disagee
@@haydenread730 Fair point. I was definitely overplaying whites. Pinks just felt a lot less practical in Pikmin 4 but I feel they may be just as good.
They have the bonus of not counting towards the death count though which is nice.
honestly, this is a tierlist that i can agree on
I’m glad people are starting to use the Moss image. It’s so funny looking.
My response to the purple pikmin and doomsday apparatus: dandori issue
>"I don't want to have Purples at all times because I don't want them to die"
>99.9% of enemies in Pikmin 2 die before they can even get off a single attack if you have Purples
?????????
I get the sentiment of putting purples in 4 above purples in 2 but to get their onion you have to complete Olimar's Shipwreck Tale and that's not something a lot of players (including myself) bothered/will bother to do.
bro spent a bunch of time on the last night mission when i just freaking sat there and grew my pikmin numbers

Never did get why wallywogs are dangerous. They’re just very time consuming. You can loop them and have them hop in the same spot without purples. I think you can do this in 1 as well.
The “oatchi makes blues in 4 better” talking point may be controversial but I agree.
MJ: I think this pikmin is good.
His friend: says the whole bible.
21:48 totally agree with the purple Pikmin comment. Saving purples so you don’t need to grind is literally how I play
Dandori issue
Honestly I found ice pikmin to be more OP then glows even, glows are definitely my favorite pikmin type because their so good but also so limited based on how well you do in night missions, meanwhile ice pikmin are kinda shoved down your throat early on and by the time the number of wild ones might dwindle, you find the ice onion
I could spawn 30 of my glow Pikmin in a cave, but then id need to propegate 150 more in night mode to make up for the loss, while 30 ice pikmin wont be left behind and will insta freeze pretty much any enemy, so i end up wanting to save glow Pikmin for when I really need it, like the final cave
Also entirely agree with purples from 2, I love the feeling of having a shotgun ready to blast but wanting to make sure I have enough ammo for when it counts, which is very similar to how I view glows in 4
So i did a red pikmin and oatchi only run in pikmin 4 (i allowed myself to use glow pikmin i needed to cure bernard to unlock hero's hideaway but i can only use them at night) i can get almost every treasure, except for a few. and
Ice, rock, white and blue are not needed even ONCE. (i also allowed myself to use different pikmins in the dandori challenges because they are NOT my pikmins.)
i dunno why i wanted to share this but i did i geuss.
interesting. i did notice that because got can only have 3 pikmin types at once, a lot of types aren’t required for a lot of treasures
This purples take is absolutely deranged, they are so valuable I’d dismiss my entire team to run around a cave level with just 10 purples destroying everything so I have full control and don’t lose any.
If you’re not playing Pikmin 4 with Ice Pikmin alway in your party you’re playing the game incorrectly fr 🗿
Also:
1. Ice Pikmin’s onion is found in a freezer so bonus points
2. They’re literally infinite nectar farms, if you shatter a frozen enemy it drops a glob of nectar, and if you shatter a mini boss with it, it’ll drop tons of nectar and super spicy spray
The fact that you need Ice for everything made me dislike them 🗿💀
ice are on top fr ‼️‼️
@@bluecoralkraken same, that made me hate Ice Pikmin and use them less often. I almost always have Rock Pikmin in my squad, since combined with Oatchi’s rush, they demolish creatures easily.
Its funny how Yellows occupy both the highest and the lowest spots of the OG 3.
I agree with the Purple and Rock placement in 4.
My reasoning? Simple.
Spicy Spray plus Oatchi Charge. Bosses melt in literal seconds.
Moss always looks high and is probably a drug cartel
only tier list i've ever agreed with
I saved my purples. Besides you get enough in caves to decimate. Funny thing is I had the doomsday apparatus spawn next to my ship.
Aren’t purple pikmin from 2 immune to the fear effect while 4’s purples aren’t.
Tier list was awesome. But, I would have appreciated hearing the arguing between you guys (probably because I’m just a massive fan of Pikmin).
Saying that you don't want Purple Pikmin in Pikmin 2 at all times because you have ti protect them more because of the doomsday apparatus, is like saying thay you don't want two kidneys because it is easier to protect just one. It makes no sense.
I couldn't agree more that Yellows from Pikmin 1 are better than Pikmin 2's Reds and Blues
All I hear in my mind for the Purple in Pikmin 2 is just Dandori issue
I dont think i used a single yellow pikmin thar i didn't have to use in 4, and you barely ever need them.
I am interested in you getting platinum medals in Pikmin 3 that has White Pikmin but without using the Whites.
to be fair its your own fault for not repating a cave to get more of any pikmin type you want to use.
Lowkey pikmin 1 yellows are underrated
Bombs are so good at anything from killing wollywogs and bulbears with ease or nuking a group of sheerwigs
But yeah over all amazing list
yeah people say they're situational but like if crushing bulbears and wollywogs, breaking hard walls specially in forest navel, getting treasures you wouldn't get without using them and anhilating the final boss are considered situational then what about reds and blues lol
Ngl I’m 90% through Pikmin 4 and have pretty much never used purple Pikmin and glow Pikmin, maybe I should do another run using them as much as possible to see if they’re really that good…
38:44 yellow Pikmin really got bubble sorted there
I'm very happy that white Pikmin wasn't just reserved to being trash, I love the lil albino bois
Even then, standard practice among repeat players (as far as I've heard from the community) is that you're going to want a lot of Purples _all of the time._ That is _community consensus._
24:40 Didn't they lose their stunlock in 4? Am I imagining that? I'm pretty sure their stun is one of the most powerful aspects in 2.
26:20 Conveniently sidesteps the question 🤔.
Blues are always extremely situational
i consider ice to be utter garbage.
Ice pikmin to me feel like if bamboo gates was the only thing winged pikmin were used for.
no way i am in the thumbnail i cannot belive it no way i cant belive i am flabbergasted right now no way i cant belive it no way i am flabbergasted right now
Can you not believe it and is flabbergasted right now?
no way ur literally famous
Fun video though, I enjoyed listening while exercising, so thanks.
With a glitch the candy pop bud is theirs second Onion only for ice, white and purple, idk why only those
I always use winged pikmin because they are just silly little guys. jolly and carefree small lads.
Top 3 Pikmin P2 purples P4 ice and P4 purples there is no debate P2 purples broke the game entirely
Good tier list, love pikmin!
21:33 unironically a dandori issue
Blue Pikmin are even worse in Pikmin 4 than in Pikmin 3 because Oatchi and Ice Pikmin outclass them too much
Purples in 3 are not utter garbage yes bad in combat but carrying strength is so huge in missions
You guys sound like Mark and William from invincible
I absolutely disagree with purples in 2.
If you can easily kill everything, then why would you need to try and save them?
people sleep on pikmin 3 purples way too much. people expect them to be combat pikmin which they aren’t anymore in 3, they’re transport pikmin and they are very good at it. being able to carry ten times their weight means two purple pikmin can carry any object in the game (the only exception being the sandbelching meerslug corpse, which weighs 30, everything else ways 20 or less) this is low key broken and in my opinion makes them the third best pikmin in 3 behind rocks and of course wings. yes they suck in combat im not gonna argue that but they allow you to carry so many objects without using up a substantial amount of your army and imo that makes them very worthwhile. of course if you had only purples in your army they would suck but you could just carry 10-15 purples then have stronger combat pikmin fill in the remaining slots so you could carry back fruit without having to decrease your combat pikmin numbers. all the mission mode stages with them kinda revolve around them since you have so little pikmin that being able to carry ten times weight is invaluable.
kinda went off there but it’s something i feel very strongly about. pikmin 3 purples do not suck
Purples in 2 are s tier
I disagree with yellows in 1 they are used in the final boss and the bomb rocks help with breaking down bone walls
So... the reason you don't want purples from 2 in "Have at all times" is because you you want to have them at all times but physically can't?
White pikmin in 3 should be in the green ngl
Only problem is that pufmin are in the very bottom but other than that very good tier list
Hey atleast ur not at risk of being crucified like me! (I put bteadbug in f tier in my enemy list)
How dare you not call the bottom tier 'Utter Scrap'
The only thing I disagree with is Purples from 4 being the best of the best. I agree that they’re really good, but I’d consider both glow, ice, and purples from 2 better. I’d even consider putting purples from 4 as the top of the tier below.
Purples in 2-
Using them makes the game ridiculously easier, faster, and more efficiently.
No hate, just don’t agree with not using them out of fear.
and they absolutely want to 100% the game which is a tedious thing to do but then complain about grinding for twenty minutes...
Honestly, white pikmin's carry speed make them top tier for me,,, possible dandori issue?
