    i put ds series coils on a b5 passat before, i tried every single setting on them and no matter what i did they were bouncy af, was under my car over 50 times in one year trying to dial them in making a setting at a time, i had zero issues with camber toe etc. the alignment was perfect but there were no after market options that i could find for arms that were in stock so i did a whole refresh with new oem arms, ball joints etc and had poly bushing installed by a mechanic with a press........ i left them at the settings they came out of the box on initial install, made sure to torque everything to spec at ride height, i tried slamming it, i tried a 1.25 inch drop which was where i thought it was optimal, and literally every click from soft to stiff and couldnt stop the front end from bouncing after even the slightest bumps which made it feel like it was floating and unpredictable..... they were horrible for that car so i spent alot of time researching and came to find out that digressive coilovers like the ds series are so hard to find critical damping becuase all the damping is up front instead of being linear where the damping gets tighter the further shock travels... after a year of trying everything i could think of i only managed tolerable but not enjoyable....
    at income tax time i chalked it up and got the BR series kit and the swift spring upgrade and it was perfect for that platform. no more bounce! they rode a little harder over the worst bumps than stock but bumps felt way more comfortable/predictable than the DS but it took corners like a champ and actually felt good to hit the back roads.... and it didnt feel like it was going to break my spine in half over a large bump doing 90 on the highway like the ds
    i did read somewhere that ds were great for drifting and autocross, but for an aggressive daily where someone just likes going on spirited drives i think the br series was aimed for the end user to be almost plug and play out of the box with less guess work.... im not saying other people will or wont have the same experience, maybe i could have done something different like take the car in for corner balancing, and have it set up by professionals after having my wallet raped... this was the first time ive ever had a coilover give me this many problems and its my 5th car that ive had lowered over the years..... or maybee i could have taken the arms off a different b5 car and change the suspension geometry a little bit or something if i was better at math.... im just saying for me it was a nightmare when most of the aftermarket was already gone for the car at the time..

    • @milanmastracci
      @milanmastracci  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know what the spring rates were? I wonder if they were too stiff, or maybe if the dampening was set correctly to the spring rates? Even some of the recommended spring rates that companies offer are not ideal for the weights and everything of the car. It's tough to say what your situation was.
      I've ran digressive coilovers before with success, but I'm happy to hear the BR's with swifts are working for you!

    • @somdood3292
      @somdood3292 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@milanmastracci after looking it up on ecs tuning..... 7k Front & 6k Rear Spring Rate... the car weight was like 3400lbs i think. it had no adjustment for rebound but i did try every damping setting front and rear one at a time, and then dialed it back to where i found i liked it best, which eventually i found it to be better with the front being 2 clicks stiffer than the rear so it was something like 5 clicks front and 3 clicks rear from softest.... it could have been the fact that i was running 17s instead of the stock 16s(same tire size diameter on some General GMAX as05s), or that i did something wrong when torquing the control arms at ride height(which i find hard to believe after 5 different attempts driving the car up on blocks to loosen and re-torque with the car perfectly level on the ground)
      i do believe that bc racing does the proper amount of r&d and wouldnt just slap together a crappy coilover... so i guess? the spring rates were probably fine? maybee i should have went with the swifties... i think it had to be user error more than anything or a part i should have replaced or added but didnt know about or couldnt find like those little blocks you installed for your ball joints and thats really hard for me to admit to myself much less the internet but ill never know.... i sold the car for $12k after putting 8k worth of aftermarket parts into it....

    • @milanmastracci
      @milanmastracci  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey brother! My suggest is to do as much research as possible before hand so you know what you're getting into when buying / upgrading parts. I'd suggest starting off with doing your preventative maintenance like fluid changes, spark plugs, serpentine belt, and the simpler things, so that you get an idea of what its like working on the underside of these cars. It will also mean you will have to start acquiring some tools. Once you get comfortable with that, feel free to start upgrading the car. You should only put money towards upgrading your ride given it isn't going to be breaking down on you. Hope that helps!

    Hey man, love the videos you put out very helpful 👍🏾
    I'm looking at getting these coilovers for my CL7 Euro R (similar to the the TSX) mainly driven for trackdays. What spring rates would you recommend if I were to go with swift springs or normal springs? I run the car on semi slicks (235/40r18 on 18x8.5 rims)
    Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏽

    • @milanmastracci
      @milanmastracci  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Happy to hear that Kyle!! So selecting spring rates depends on a bunch of things, such as overall weight, weight distribution, sway bar selection, square vs staggered fitment, suspension travel, etc. With that being said, my suggestion is to go with whatever is offered from BC racing as the standard springs, drive with that setup for a bit, and then if you want to change them out you can, or if you're satisfied with those rates, then purchase swift springs. That is a very universal way to approach aftermarket suspension.
      If you want to go in depth more, look up motion ratios, spring frequencies, etc and you'll learn a bunch about it. There's a lot that goes into getting your suspension dialed in perfectly.

    You’ve just thrown off your suspension a lot worse than if you didn’t install that roll centre correction kit. I 100% Garuntee you have some degree of bump steer now, especially with your vehicle being a macpherson strut design.
    You now need adjustable (height) outer tie rods to correct for the incorrect suspension geometry.
