I have literally detailed the 3 cars I've owned maybe 4 times in my full 9 years of owning vehicles. Yet, I find myself watching a 22 minute video about detailing tips and tricks. I've been thinking about starting a detailing buisness too like 24/7 for the past week
Getting all set up in my detail business 👌👌👌 I've been dealing for 2 years at Jacksons car wash and ready to go out on my own💚💚💚 Thank you for the sales call pre view helps to understand what to highlight with customers 🙏
12 year and still going strong detailer here, and i totally say the same stuff to my clients! Huge respect to you as a detailer that even after 10 years you're still going forward!
So are you technically a mobile detailer? This video was a lot of help. I’ve been wanting to start my own detail business but idk where to start. My communication skills are highly lacking
This is the kind of customer I have appreciation and like you said you must speak up before touch the car , I am a mobile mechanic and a lot of people think I am a miracle mechanic but not always work in that way , there alway customers that try to be smarter than us and those ones you must be careful, sometimes this people look for freebies, big time . That is why I do a pre-inspection before I start wrenching in a car. By the way I like how you do your detailing is amazing 😉
Great video, i would like to address one thing though, having been in business for over 16 years, if wanting to build a company the 1000 per week cannot be looked at as a whole 1000 per week factoring in expenses as well as fed and/or state taxes, and most importantly insurance. Cash side hustle, great .
I'm so glad TH-cam recommended this video on my homepage. I so so needed this much information for me to get started on my detailing business! Thank you so much for sharing!
Most people that hear $66/hr are assuming a 40 hr work week which will be amazing. With he example given in the video, the amount of hours worked equates to $25/hr on a 40 hr week. Night and a day difference. $4K a month is ok, would probably need a working spouse or roommates to make ends meet. Great work and information, appreciate the time and knowledge you’re sharing!
Helping somebody by Sharing your knowledge free of cost is something not everyone does. Kudus to you brother! Hope this helps people to start business & lead a dignified life. God bless!
Eyy great video. Just a beginner just did 2 cars this last week. And charged 200 for doing full exterior with just taking out some scratches. But this is a really great idea for trying to build regular customers
1st: My my my. You said a lot. I couldn’t keep up with some of the information!!!! 2nd: You did such an excellent job on the black truck!! It looks brand new again!!!!!
Great content. I had a big jobs that payed $125.00 per hour. That I finished putting in around 120 hrs. It blew my mind that you can make that kind of money. Staying positive is the key.
Wilson Auto Detailing I been detailing for 8 years and finally word of mouth has payed off. Doing quality work also. The hardest part is staying positive.
If yall think 50 a hr is to much then you obviously dont understand. How much effort it takes to detail like this . And yet the products he uses and knowledge from the experience he has is worth it.
Hey Wilson.. like that in the video while your talking you combat any kind of possible negative someone might find. Shows you been doing this for a while . Good job buddy like the videos from a weekend mobile guy like myself..you always have good advise.
13:35 you are talking about gross income. The money that you make before taxes, and general expenses ( chemicals, gas, towels, equipment wear-and-tear, etc.)
Yes I am talking about top line revenue (gross). That being said, generally speaking, the products I suggest, as well as the business model I teach people to build creates a very LOW expense side of the equation, so while you may detail for $50 hourly, the LARGE majority of that is net profit. This isn't like creating products, and purchasing inventory with a 30% profit margin
Wilson Auto Detailing totally get it man, just saying that it may not be as simple as you lead on in the video. For aspiring detailers even if they get clients at this rate they, especially at first, will not see the number of clients that you might project (based on personal experience alone) and so I just wanted to clarify for the sake of general information. All the best though man! Love the positivity and thanks for the reply
@@maxbailey3087 your points are valid however it can be assumed running a successful detail business is easier said than done. If it were that easy, everyone would be doing it.
Your the best! Your so informational the tips I get from your videos I appreciate so much. I'm a fellow Christian as you are. I'm just starting out and not much money to start but doing what I can. Currently I have to see a surgeon July 8th for my wrist so detailing using one arm for most all of it is a pain but I make due. I wish I could just sit down and "pick your brain". I just feel a little overwhelmed at times in just starting out. Thank you for your time and information in your videos brother!
Wow! Im sorry to hear that man! That sounds really difficult! I am glad that the videos are of help to you! Really encouraging to hear, thanks for letting me know!
Luke, that looks more like a true exterior detail that I would do, especially since I utilize more than just one featured product. I believe the video really hit home with a lot of folks as the could relate to exterior washes, although they may not be maintenance. In my area, there is such a diverse range of prices, but you can usually weed out the hacks quickly. I think most people tend to cut-throat their exterior package, while bundling it along with their interior package, which leaves you in the boat to have to 'sell' the idea of a maintenance wash. No worries if you leave them happy! Thanks again for another top video entry!!!
Boom! Thanks Bill! Totally agree, and in my experience, those who focus on maintenance clients, and highlight why they charge more than the competition are actually the ones who build INCREDIBLE word of mount reputations for a long term business
Can you do a comparison video between a car that has used your service, vs them using a car wash? I feel like detailers in my area struggle because there are multiple car washes in our area that offer monthly wash services, most are around $30-40 a month for unlimited washes, and that includes things like bug spray, clear coat, siminoz hot wax, and more. I feel like to a normal human perception, that those car washes suffice enough to be clean. Of course as a detailer you will notice a difference, but I feel as though the average person, or client that is visiting an office would not be able to tell the difference between a car that has used a good car wash vs a detail service. Maybe I am wrong, but I would like to be able to see a comparison video of that. The only advantage detailers have in my area is that they can offer interior cleaning I feel like.
The key to any business get customers who will pay. People who like the service of detailer coming to their home to do the job vs them having to drive and wait, is what detailers should market their service to.
Those non touchless car washes beat the hell out of your car. They pick up dirt, mud, debris on the previous cars and then slap it all over yours. One of my friends takes their car through one and already has marks over her plastic areas. The touchless car washes are better for preventing marks on the car but they’re not really doing any cleaning worth paying for. If you truly care about your car have a professional do it or figure out how to do it yourself and save money.
Would it be better to start from the top and work your way down? I'm new to this and from cleanin basically anything else they say you should start at the top cuz if you start at the bottom and work your way up then the dirt that falls from the top will go back down to the bottom where you started, does that apply to this or does it not matter
Wow dude. FANTASTIC video. Subbed. I have a lot of black plastic trim on my 17 f150. I bought the mother's back to black, I did 2 door handles with it and stopped because of time restrictions. I'm going to try that renegade spray. Looks way easier. Thanks
all of those products are tax-deductible. think of it like this. you get a $1000 paycheck from your employer at a job, taxes are taken out first thing, roughly 15% for federal (FICU, SSI, Medicaire), and in some states about 15% more for state tax.. after paying for benefits (401k and health insurance) you're down 30-35% easy on your check probably closer to 40% at that income level, so you're left with $600. He is making $1000 business income, and will also owe somewhere around 10-30% in taxes. Chances are, his taxes are lower as a self-proprietorship, but assuming they're the same as your paycheck's taxes, he can now deduct any costs of those items from those taxes, so he's investing in the business by buying those items, and now pays less taxes, and so at the end of the day, he's essentially made more money than you by being able to keep more of the gross earnings.
So let's say he earns $1000, he can buy the equipment, it cost $200. He owes the 40% ($300) in taxes on the $1000 but can deduct business expenses from that, so he's left with $600 AND the cleaning products.
I think I'm going to get into detailing. I love doing it on my cars, then buying different equipment. No steamer. So we'll go without that for now. But appreciate your channels. Believe I got some people interested,
as being a detail manager from a dealership I handle rentals, body shop, sales and service. I used to do side work. but alls I ever would get is hey can you remove this scratch and this one blah blah blah and people dont understand paint correction takes time so its gona cost u more. pretty much one of the reasons why I stopped doing it.
When at the hand blaster for the power washer be more efficient quicker easier for doing much of that stuff instead of the wind? Especially under the wheel wells
Finally someone who shows us real examples. Glad you're not just some old detailer that just gives reviews on products definitely earned a subscriber. I am going to start my detail business once work picks up again.
Looks awesome! This is exactly what I’m looking for but I’m not sure who offers it in my area. I’ve done a quick search but mostly find the big car wash companies and the work is done quickly and by inexperienced people.
Try asking for recommendations on Facebook. Most detailers will have a Facebook page with before/after pics. Also. Ask in any group that your are part of. I’ve gotten almost all my business that way.
This is absolutely an amazing video. I am planning to get into the business soon. Currently work at a car wash and I am wanting to start a side gig doing this. Thanks for all the information and links too!
Then again you do live in a nice profitable area and most your clients have $$ and wealthy rich, so it’s reasonable for your pricing. But since I live on a area that isn’t that nice and not as rich people you might have to lower your prices if you want clients
What are your thoughts on rinseless washes? especially as a maintenance option for customers. Do you have a video on that and your thoughts on that? Thank You for all your videos and all your detailed information about running a detail business and not just the "Art" Of detailing.
Wilson Auto Detailing great!!! Thank you for letting me know! I’m trying out American detail garage wipeout and looking into fuzion as well. If you have time for it that would be a cool one to check out!
Have you ever had trouble with the water police? I worked at a company and we would wash our service trucks on business property. Some type of police came by and said your only allowed to wash your trucks at car wash .
Hour and a half for the job doesn’t include travel time to and from the customers house, any time spent talking with customer, loading and unloading pressure washer, getting gas, cleaning cloths etc. Further, the $100 you “make” doesn’t include materials, chemicals, gas etc . Business license, taxes, state and federal, accountant.
Lucas nah he can do it they can’t audit if they don’t know it exists. I know tons of people that do it, especially barbers. The ones that make the most money only take cash for a reason...
Materials don't cost much especially when diluted like it should be. 5 gallon wheel de greaser ($80), soap ($70) lasts me 4+ months, all purpose ($25) 6 months, tire shine ($120) 1 year. 1 gallon jug of compound ($30) and polish ($30) lasts about 6 months-8 months. glass cleaner about 1 can every 2 weeks @ $7 a month. microfiber spending $5 weekly. At least 4 cars a day. as for brushes.. well they last a long time which also don't cost much. The profit margin is LARGE especially if you do ceramic coating.
Hey there, I am loving your content. Please keep the vids coming. My question is, are you running your detailing business from your house? If so, I'd assume that fact can certainly keep your pricing low compared to a Detail Shop that resides in an Industrial Complex that has to have high overhead to manage. I'm just wondering if we're comparing apples to apples when you're talking about money. I can't operate a Detail Business from my home garage where I live due to local bylaws and zoning. Thanks again for your content Luke.
So you can use that ceramic spray even if the vehicle isnt cermaic coated .?? How often should you wax a vehicle and what brush are you using that's long for the wheels ??
In regards to working in direct sunlight do you recommend working panel by panel then drying to help prevent water spots or the soap drying on the paint
Microfiber rags wash and then when you’re done, rinse the car down again, don’t worry about the soap residue and then use megs synthetic spray wax all over the car, rise off again and dry off. Watch Dallas paint correction on YT. He posts good tips and tricks for washing in direct sun light. I’ve used them cause I’m a mobile detailer myself.
I think it depends on your approach. What you mentioned above is much easier to do when you are using a rinseless approach with something like optimum no rinse, but yes it can be done with a traditional approach it's just a little bit more difficult dealing with overspray and such
Thanks so much! I am thinking that is will be priced somewhere around $397, and I am working really hard to get it finished but I am still a little while out just because I’m taking a lot of time to make this thing top notch. I actually have a mentor walking me through it because he does this professionally so it’s going to be a serious course.
How you were able to spray directly on the surface/glass of the truck while in direct sunlight without leaving streaks or water spots? Were you using the clients water source or do you have deionized water for instance? I only ask because in my state we have fairly hard water so keeping the vehicle cool and in the shade is a must on hot days.
So I looked at the list after viewing. This may be a bit redundant , but did you use renegade landslide tire “ coating “ and the stoner tire shine ? I don’t recall the order.
Why do you apply the foam canon first, rinse it and then another pass the wash mitt instead of using the wash mitt while the foam is on the truck? Nice videos bro
I do that sometimes, and other times I use the more traditional two bucket method, just depends on the situation. A lot of times applying with a foam cannon and simply washing the mitt in between panels can be quicker so I understand the appeal
Thank you for all your info you put out as you have been helping me more than you’ll ever know building my business. I do have one question about reoccurring maintenance clients. Once you sell them on a maintenance package whether it be monthly or by monthly or biweekly whatever it is. Do you charge them upfront to make sure you they call you back or wait till you do the job. I have sold maintenance packages to people & they are all gung ho at the time but then when it comes time to schedule it they don’t want to do it anymore, so I do I need to focus on different clientele or do something that assures me they will reschedule or keep their appointment?Hopefully this makes sense. Lol. Thanks any info will help. Jason~Auto Shine Detailing from Marietta, Ga
Kind of funny flash interesting listening to your numbers. Course that depends on consistency, enough cars, and 12 months a year? I just want to do it cuz it's fun, very rewarding to me and other people and just supplemental money. Cheers to those that can make a yearly living
Facebook groups are definitely a great idea, id also say this, when you utilize social media well, you will inevitably build a strong word of mouth reputation which is where the big dogs come in that you want. In my experience, it takes that 1 client who has some connections that will completely change your business
Any suggestion for a wheel brush? I've tried 3 or 4 different brushes and the "hairs" always fall out. The backside of my wheels I sharp and apparently that plucks out the "hairs" of whatever wheel brush I am using. With one particular brush it was so bad that the wheels were covered with dozens of the "hairs." So I'm seeking a quality brush that won't break down!

I used to do side work. but alls I ever would get is hey can you remove this scratch and this one blah blah blah and people dont understand paint correction takes time so its gona cost u more. pretty much one of the reasons why I stopped doing it.
Thanks for all the knowledge bro! Never a let down
When at the hand blaster for the power washer be more efficient quicker easier for doing much of that stuff instead of the wind?
This is the best video I’ve been able find so far. Thank you thank you thank you
Then again you do live in a nice profitable area and most your clients have $$ and wealthy rich, so it’s reasonable for your pricing.
Hey man! I have a ton of videos about rinseless washes... I love ONR and use it all the time!
Customer probably brings the truck to his house, and I'm guessing he asks for cash so it isn't taxed
@@BubbaPmp8088 you can't get paid in cash under the table for every customer though. That's a one way ticket to a fat audit.
Lucas nah he can do it they can’t audit if they don’t know it exists. I know tons of people that do it, especially barbers. The ones that make the most money only take cash for a reason...
@@botomusprime6238 good luck. Try to explain to the government how you're acquiring personal and business assets with 0 income.
When you started how did you get comfortable with paint correction
Bro!!!! THANK YOU! I’m starting this with your knowledge! 🤫🤑👍
That's interesting because my customers do seem to focus on interiors. I sell a good bit of interior only jobs
Nice video man! Always making quality content. Love it
So you can use that ceramic spray even if the vehicle isnt cermaic coated .?? How often should you wax a vehicle and what brush are you using that's long for the wheels ??
Where can i find the soap
Great videos as always.. l haven’t seen how to clean seat belts. Can or do you have a video already??
These videos are insane, putting out all that info about how it's done and his products
Bro you’re a fucking pro . I use to work at a car wash but didn’t take it serious. Keep up the good work ...
Man, thanks for such a solid video. Great communication and great work.
What you mentioned above is much easier to do when you are using a rinseless approach with something like optimum no rinse, but yes it can be done with a traditional approach it's just a little bit more difficult dealing with overspray and such
erick tapia thank you for the help trying to get my foot in the door for mobile detailing!
Wilson Auto Detailing awesome thanks for the reply and the help!
Awesome work bro. That tn tag caught my eye I do details on the side out of hamilton county!
Luke can I get a ballpark figure when your business will be available and price range. I prefer your style of teaching vs Detail Groove.
Thanks for the video! I enjoy all your videos.
Do you consider getting touch up paint for your good clients?
question; when going to new clients' places; do you use their own water??? or do you own your own mobile tank of water etc.
Most clients that NEED your services will offer there water. Best to have your own if not.
are you doing clay bar to the headlights and glass?
did you only clay bar the glass and grill? was that to remove bugs?
does using the clay bar on the windows clean them better? or do you have to go over them again?
Is the soap in the foam cannon the same as the bucket ?
What does your tank setup look like
Question, did you also do the interior in this truck? Like vacuum, apc, dressing?
mobile detail business. Can you do it on your own without anybody but yourself? And is it still profitable?
So do you or did you in the beginning, take pictures of the vehicles before you started on them? Seems kind of logical
Clay bar is abrasive is it okay to clay bar then not apply a polish or anything?
Lots of good info. Becoming a fan
sounded like a telemarketer when you did that call with johnny haha
Hahahaha ya I did
You offered Johnny to interrupt you at any point, yet you didn’t stop talking so fast, nobody had a chance.
And you have to take out taxes from your weekly income. That $1,000. Goes quickly when you factor in costs below the line.
yea, it came off "to me" a bit too sales pitchy.
@@Swimdancer1 none of these detailers working from home are paying taxes.
Good information to protect yourself from a lawsuit too, do you have insurance and have you ever had to use it ?
So would you say the red drill brush is too aggressive for tires? I noticed you switched to the yellow
I wouldn't, I do a ton of experimenting with drill brushes in particular so some of that is me testing certain things
What drill do you use with the drill brush attachments? Thing looks like it works well I want to buy it
Any tips for getting your company name to new clients? Especially some non-social media ones for the rich older clients?
I use Facebook groups too advertise there are many more platforms to advertise on but Facebook and Instagram both most popular.
Facebook groups are definitely a great idea, id also say this, when you utilize social media well, you will inevitably build a strong word of mouth reputation which is where the big dogs come in that you want. In my experience, it takes that 1 client who has some connections that will completely change your business
Do you used the customers water or you provide your own?
Boy that truck look good. Great job sir. Salute.
WHAT IS PSI YOU ARE PUTTING ON PRESSURE WASH?
Great video. Appreciate the information but quick question. What are you working out of as far as a vehicle go?
Any suggestion for a wheel brush? I've tried 3 or 4 different brushes and the "hairs" always fall out. The backside of my wheels I sharp and apparently that plucks out the "hairs" of whatever wheel brush I am using. With one particular brush it was so bad that the wheels were covered with dozens of the "hairs." So I'm seeking a quality brush that won't break down!
What camara do you use to take videos of the vehicles on your head ?
