I still think base P5 should be higher than 10, It added/refined some fun and interesting mechanics as well as QoL stuff.
Like Omega said, P5 had the most polished base version in the series and was what got a lot of people into the series.

I won't. Given that I can emulate FES for free. Even if I would buy Answer DLC (for the sake of having a complete product), that doesn't justify the scummy practice of withholding what should be base game content to sell back as DLC. Stop the cap.
@@user-zl1vf4me1p I'm pretty sure it was Faz who asked if people were going to purchase or play the Answer DLC, and a majority of the people said no or they were going to wait for the price to drop. Most normies agree with the fans that the price is not justifiable or worth it, so I don't think it's going to be that successful tbh. I honestly kinda hope it fails just so Atlus doesn't continue this shitty monetary practice.
P2 was a great duology arguably one of the best narratives in the series but the consistent parroting of this fact and overrating of it as a game just shows these dudes haven’t even played it lmao

As someone who grew up in the SNES/PS1 era, a lot of the QoL stuff doesn't bother me, so I definitely rate P2 way higher than a huge portion of the series. That stuff is not as much of a deal-breaker for old-heads who grew up without QoL.
I still wouldn't put them that high, but they're not terrible games by any stretch.
I mean P2 isn't a fantastic narrative. It's serviceable.

Oh definitely, I still think p5r combat was more fun but p3 hands down the best story of the modern trio and Reload just improved on it so well especially how they reworked the ending and the new mix of memories of you and I'll always protect you was great
I personally still like P5R more but P3R is valid if it’s top 1 for others.
Yeah no p3 already had the best story and characters imo, but p5r still has some of the best arcs of any persona game and most importantly it's more fun to play, the confidants are way better the p3's social link

@@owkrikki well p2is and ep have incredible stories and casts, the gameplay while old and outdated is not bad by any means, also I find p4's cast a bit bland and the story to be a mess in its climax. P1 while old is still the first in the series and the plot was very ambitious for its time, I also prefer p1's gameplay loop to both persona q's, not that it's bad i'm just not a fan of the etrian odyssey gameplay, that's it. So no it's not crazy to put p4g under p2is psp
@@cristianoducceschi3547 P1s plot wasnt ambitious at all tho it was an extremely straight forward shin megami tensei game in continuation of SMT IF, a group of highschoolers play a game, get supernatural powers where they can summon spirits/personas, they discover their towns rampant of demons nd then they decide to investigate it. Its story wasn’t anything special as opposed to it’s later entries. P2 on the otherhand, the gameplay is old nd outdated ND its genuinely rlly bad lmao its extremely tedious nd confusing even for its time, games like xenogears nd FF7 came out yrs prior to it nd still had cleaner, more enjoyable/accessible gameplay. Ion know how ud find p4’s cast bland either but to each their own ig, the game was still way more polished, innovative nd cohesive than 2 tho. 2’s iffy gameplay aside, the narrative is good but the pacing nd coherence of it did not age well whatsoever. Also the p2 cast was great individually but u didnt even get nearly as much time to flesh out their characters, I get how ud find them more interesting but it’s not like they were anything special as a whole.
@@owkrikki p1's plot was pretty ambitious for its time, implementing concept straight out of jungian psychology, the setting was interesting and the characters, maki especially, were still pretty good, p2's cast is great both in is and ep and honestly I prefer a group of individually developed characters than a great group of poorly developed characters that need to have a good part of them basically doing nothing during the first 6 months of the plot. The pacing in both p2 games is way better imo of the episodic structure of p4g and I'm glad p5 made it better, in p4g the first months is literally a repetition of seeing someone in the tv, rescuing them, they don't know anything about the kidnapper and they join the team, you do this UNTIL NAOTO JOINS, with the exception of Mitsuo's dungeon of course, but that's not exactly a great exception, to all of that then you have too many slice of life scenes that add nothing to the plot, so no I still stand by saying that p2 is better or at least on par with p4, but like you said to each their own, if you like p4g that much then good for you
EDIT:Also I agree with you p2's gameplay is outdated and p4g is better in that sense, but I personally value story and characters more than gameplay in jrpg, and so many others do the same, if not xenogears wouldn't be remembered as fondly as it is, using your example (peak game btw)
@@cristianoducceschi3547 The inspiration the persona series takes from jungian psychology is unique but not exactly risky or groundbreaking. The concept is def creative but “ambitious” is a stretch, for example, JJBA wit its implementation of stands took influence from jungian psychology even prior to the Persona series. Although Persona did delve further into its studies wit the collective unconscious, it still goes to show what P1 took from Jungian Psychology wasnt exactly “ambitious” or innovative when other works prior to it alr had successfully drawn similar insight from its studies. Plus, persona started rlly drawing from jungian psychology when the modern trilogy dropped, particularly wit the introduction of second awakenings, the evokers, the notions of “facing ur true self” nd the masks. In terms of development I get ur point tho, the P2 cast def undergo memorable nd fleshed out character arcs but ion get the idea that the p4 cast’s “poorly developed”. U def get a lot of character development purely based off their social links, thats quite literally the point of them. P4’s repetiveness is also an issue within P3 nd P5, even moreso P3- that used to be one of the most criticized aspects of the game back in like 06 when it first released. U literally do nothing for the first two months of the game nd u have to keep waiting for the full moons to pass by to even progress the story, nd u had to do ts over nd over again. P4 directly improved on that by actually implementing more cutscenes to fill out the days where u jus do social links nd run around the city. Every 30 days u fight a full-moon boss, get closer to “destroying the dark hour” nd then u move on. Granted every full moon has a slightly diff scenario/twist but u can say the same for every dungeon/kidnapping within the TV world. Also I get not liking the slice of life scenes but theyre quite literally there to encourage worldbuilding nd develop chemistry within the cast so u get to know them better. Theyre not useless to the plot at all
Both Persona 2 games are absolutely goated, and personally, i think they are top spot since i value story and cast more. But there is NO way these people actually played half of these games including p2

I agree with you for the most part, P2 being that high up the list above Reload is shocking tbh... but, Persona 2 does have arguably the best narrative in the entire franchise. It's just that the rest of the game is pretty terrible in comparison to the modern games. I've completed them both, enjoyed them, but have no intention of replaying them ever again unless they get updated releases.
P3 Reload is the best way to experience P3. It should be higher.

@matthewbraith0411 it might not have everything, but Reload also has new stuff that isn't in the older versions, like the dorm activities, link episodes, and other various scenes that further flesh out the characters. Plus, graphics are great, good QoL improvements, social links are fully voiced etc. All that stuff definitely makes Reload the best way to experience P3

the persona 2 gameplay (both games but especially innocent sin) is very dated but the story is peak (my favorite in the series) and it undoubtedly has the best cast(s) of characters in the series. it introduced many concepts that show up in later games too (ex: fighting your shadow and accepting it as a part of yourself). i wholeheartedly believe that remakes of the games that take the characters and general plot-lines from the duology and fit them into the modern persona format with modern gameplay would be a hit if atlus played their cards right. but yeah as of now i’d recommend just watching a play-through of it to the casual persona fan, since the story is really what people like about it anyways
Okay I get the base games being lower because the enhanced versions are just that much better, but reload not being top 3 is insane to me. It is quite literally the best version of 3, and I’d bet money that they plan to put the Answer in it later. And so if that’s the case what’s missing? That you can’t be FemC? That’s understandable if that’s how you played it but like let’s be for real
Honestly for me P5R is still slightly better than reload, mostly because tartarus and the first 6 month of reload are still holding it down compared to the fast start and fun palaces of royal.
I have high hope that P6 can be even better tho.

These games are so dope that...should the earlier persona games get the remake treatment (you can add p4g in the mix) you can argue what game would take the top spot. At the moment...ranking the series...I got P5R/P3R 1a or 1b...then p4g then 2 then 1. Unfortunately P1 and P2 are overshadowed games which is a shame...but then you kinda get into the argument like which Final Fantasies are good or Goat tier games...and the older games don't get that same attention. I dunno 😋
I just started Persona 2 Inocent Sin, and I like it despite its flaws, but there is no way it is better than Persona 3 Reload.
P5 Strikers on Merciless is actually top tier. Even after having 99 Stat Personas. Actually beating the Reaper on Merciless was the most fun I ever had

i really like p5 tactica, story can be predictable but the new characters are fun and its still a fun game, nothing too crazy just a good overall game

There is no fucking way anyone in their right mind is putting any other version of Persona 3 above Reload. It’s just straight up the wrong answer. And portable as the best? At number 2? ABOVE BASE PERSONA 5!? Stop trying to be quirky. Also ranking any of the spin offs above mainline entries is just a weird decision. Especially when it comes to the P5 spinoffs. Like they aren’t bad but compared to a mainline Persona game the quality is just not on that same level.
I do agree with the P5D argument though. That game came out way too early. The P5 spin off release should’ve been Strikers, anime, Q2, Tactica, and then we get P5 dancing when Tactica was released. P5 has the music catalogue now to fill an entire dancing game themed around it, when it came out it all it had was base P5 to work off of, and some of the tracks weren’t even full motion capture, they just straight up played a montage of some of the anime clips from the games or played the intros and called it a day.

Tactica was just an ehhh game. The story is a discount P5S story, which is already a discount P5R story. Nothing bad other than the art style, just doesn’t do anything new, and I would much rather play P5S if I felt like playing a P5 spinoff

Not less annoying so much as it's NOT SHIT like P4 dungeons. Magatsu Inaba aside, none of the dungeons are really that interesting despite being themed around they characters they represent. And regardless of any of that, the Back Attack system for Shadows is stupid given that they'll always detected you approaching them even if they're facing a full 180 degrees away from you and start moving shortly after to turn around and screw over your attempt at an advantage. Versus P3 working as you'd expect it to and allowing you to actually sneak them undetected.
Tactics isn't a dungeon mechanic. And Fatigue was never a problem at all given that the tradeoff for it was being able to restore SP upon returning to the lobby instead of the traditional system of being limited by your SP conservation. You can theoretically grind in Tartarus forever so long as you can endure the Fatigue penalties, especially as you get further into the game. You can also exploit being Fatigued to get Courage points from the school nurse and then use the restroom to remove the condition if not get into Great status. It was never a bad system. You're just bad at taking advantage of it.
Nah the list is based. P3P is a very good version of P3 that too many dismiss just because of the visual novel style presentation.
FES and Reload better. That presentation and lack of Answer is a downgrade, and the content they added is not a good replacement for it.

I don't care if you think the Answer sucked. It's a canon piece of Persona lore that ties into the actions of the P3 cast, namely Elizabeth, when they reappeared in the Arena games. A canon piece of lore that's been stuck on a 2 decade old PS2 game because Atlus is too lazy to rerelease it on modern consoles or just grab the ROM for it online if they did allegedly lose the code at some point.
FeMC is trash overall. She's not canon for one. Her pink aesthetic clashes heavily with this game that was designed with the blue aesthetic of Minato in mind and just makes the game look worse as a result. Her soundtrack is too upbeat and feels out of place for the game she's in. And of course, there's the romancing Ken thing prior to rerelease editing that, and the worst thing, being able to retcon Shinji's death through his SL because he conveniently had a watch in his pocket where he gets shot, but he still ends up in a coma to keep him out of the rest of the game, which all doesn't even really matter since the story clearly established that his pill popping was going to kill him soon either way, all of this ruining his death scene and the development that comes from it. This is one of the most important moments in the game (which gets an anime cutscene in FES just because of its importance that isn't present in the downgrade Portable), and it gets ruined in the FeMC route. The only good thing about her route, which applies to the game as a whole, is Direct Party Control, something you can just mod into FES on emulator, and could've just been added in had they rereleased it instead of wasting that time on the inferior Portable. Yeah, she did change the game. Not in a good way though.

Top 3 should be P3R, P4G and P5R in the order based on preference.
While I disagree with it being rated higher than any of the other base games, I would 1000% watch you play the P2 duology, I love the story
