People forget The Witcher 3 won RPG of the year in 2016 with Blood & Wine DLC

What unspoken rule lol, people wanted RE4 to win last year, and those same people are crying about Elden Ring this year. For me, Wukong puts it way into perspective as I enjoyed SotE about 50 times more than Wukong, and I really enjoyed Wukong. DLC being nominated is nothing new too, W3 B&W snubbed DS3 for best RPG lol. I think compared to all massive DLC ER is the only one that warrants it, things like PL was released pretty close to the 2.0 update so people think of those as one and the same. All I wish though is that people who have the mindset that it shouldn't be allowed are consistent with that take when it comes to remakes and games built on an existing franchise.

New game plus/second play through is ass in p5 royal. Like p4 golden ur new game plus u could do the opposite club like instead of basketball choose soccer, or instead of band choose drama and all in all the social links and slice of life are real good and the cast and the moments with them are still heart warming and funny af the second time around I’ll probably go for a third playthrough before the year ends. P3 reload for me the social links are so god damn good and I love the SEES team and story so running it back a second time on NG+ to try to get the achievement/trophy where u max everyone’s social links in a playthrough was a good enough excuse for me to experience it all a second time. P5 royal bro idk there’s so many lows and nothing to look forward too. I enjoyed spamming the OP ass gun I had in konoshidas palace on weaker enemies but literally nothing else about that game is fun enough to play it a second time. All the social links are boring. Ur team, the phantom thieves are boring. The palaces lose their charm. U have mementos. It’s 150 hours long. List goes on and on. It’s quite literally one of those games where one play through was enough

To defend metaphor i think it's the same reason if not similar to Trails Series yeah even Sega/Atlus can't pay these guys they got on the Japanese side for all the dialogue The Protagonist is voiced by Natsuki Hanae for example and if they do a similar thing to like the old Dragon Ball games they have to code in voice lines which is why in the Budokai games Cell could sound like any of his forms when getting hit Cell's voice didn't change tones in Japanese so it wasn't coded specifically to each form So they'd have to code in each line for voices the Japanese Version even for the English Code as well. So in other words if the Japanese version doesn't have code for voice acting to be possible since the English version uses the same one it can't get English voices and that's probably the case because these casts are full of A list Seiyuus who get paid top dollar so its a cost-cutting maneuver to not voice each dialogue

I fw this. Personally I prefer FES, I think I disagree a lil bit with FES not being difficult on its own merits and the gameplay system being unfun, because I think there are a good chunk of encounters that do push the mechanics of the game well and I enjoy mastering tactics, and I fw the vibe of fes more but I agree that reload is generally more enjoyable. Also despite really loving the voice cast of og p3 a lot, ngl the voice acting is very hit or miss and Reload is A LOT more consistent in its quality. There's not a character that I think has hampered through voice acting in Reload like FES has. And yeah the Social Events are a MASSIVE upgrade and something Atlus should retain. I think FES just hits more for me though because vibes, the direction of its anime scenes are nice, i like how tactics feeds into thematics and stuff. I would definitely suggest reload over fes to a vast majority of people, fes has so many choices that i think would turn people off of it as an experience. especially since the game is very bad at giving the player vital information when it comes to interacting with the core mechanics, working around what bosses are weak too and the like.

I think the difference between OG P3 and P3R is that P3 is just the raw first idea of P3 while P3R has lots of influence from the Anime Movies in terms of art/cutscene direction (i think the OG direction was better for some cutscenes, but lots of cutscenes got improved as well, mainly the late game ones) and overall evolution of the characters, P4A in terms of in-battle visuals (just look how 90% of the theurgy attacks are inspired by P4A) and obviously P3P, P4 and P5. I personally think it's a evolution, mainly story and character wise, and i agree that the OG Nyx Avatar arena had a more darker and really good vibe tought i prefer the reload version with Nyx Avatar's beautiful animations and that glowing red Aura (this was taken from the anime btw) that i like and matches with the Green background. And the OST got all better but 1 of them, and it's not mass destruction, Kitajoh and Lotus Juice said lots of times that they wanted a gap between the super energetic and up-beat it's going down now that would play in SEES advantage and a more tense and less energetic feeling for the music that would play during Shadow Advantage and monad battles, and they chose mass destruction to be the non energetic one, and because they're not trying to do a 100% recreation of mass destruction i really don't compare both, i think mass destruction reload is good for what it wants to be (tought maybe picking the most iconic persona 3 song to do that was not the best of ideas), the song i think got butchered in the Reload ost was Unavoidable battle, i think the Reload version is very boring compared to OG and it's not even a case like mass destruction that they had a reason to do so, this one got butchered for no reason, but do i really care that a song that plays during mere 3 battles in a 80H+ game got worse? sure not, so i think i can't really call it a critique, and i doubt someone would actually consider it a critique to the game.

p3femc was made in the stone age with limited tech in visuals/cinematics and budget but did ultimately save atlus from going bankrupt, p3r is made with modern tech, different tone in dialogue and budget ended up becoming the fastest selling atlus game at that time (metaphor now holds that record). both have unique features and shouldnt be compared as their very different, p3p has f2p female protag while p3r has theurgy unlockables rather than buying them from store in town with material gained from going through tartarus.

Black myth wukong is my GOTY but bit confused why persona 3 reload didnt make the cutoff for best perfomance with aigis or sound category since color your night/its going down are bangers.

As much my i love SOTE and wukong , FF7 Rebirth was the most impressive and stunning Videogame for me in the last decade , and I hope for a GOTY win

I didn't play reload to compare but I played p3 fes this year and it was amazing it's still playable today I just had to get the comparison of the remake did it better thought out of my head after couple of days playing it then I truly enjoyed it to become my favorite persona game AI party isn't that bad you just need to get used to it, it gives the game combat more identity

The hardest part of FES are the Tartarus bosses like that crying table boss was unforgivable

For me it goes Reload as best, Fes as 2nd best and portable is best for a 2nd playthrough as femc, never played og but Fes probably outclasses it on everything, i do agree some cutscenes from Fes are better and more impactful than reload, for example, the opening cutscene of Makoto arriving, and his awakening cutscene, also i think the answer in fes is better

Persona 3 Reload is...okay. It's a good experience for a newcomer but as a person who once hated the original and has since spent the time learning all the little mechanics, truly learning the characters, learning to appreciate the game and why it was the way it was made in the constraints of the company at the time I think Reload threw away way too may details that made the original so special. Through the words of the developers themselves they sought to make it more in line with P5 and I personally feel that was the wrong way to go about it. Each Persona game offers something unique of it's own with P3/FES being by far the most unique and experimental amongst the modern trilogy. However the remake was made to be a middle ground between P3 and P5 failing at both because it's trying to mesh together two different eras of a franchise while misunderstanding the individual elements that worked so well for those games. It's a remake made in the modern day to appeal to the people rather than valuing it's own ideas.

I never agree with the notion of the earlier persona games or just the persona 3 game that they were ever challenging or hard, I played the original on hard and still breezed through it, to me persona was never a series known for difficulty, Smt (it's big bro or parent I guess) was game known for it's challenging gameplay.

Reload was my first experience playing persona 3 and i absolutely adored it such a great game

I do remember reading that the reason they never added FeMC to Reload is it would take 1000's of dialogue and stuff to add, and they didn't think the effort was worth the money and stuff

P3R is peak gaming imo

FES is by far the better overall experience. I'm gonna rephrase Bubbleteas Twitter Thread on this topic which I agree with, cuz he explains it way better than I ever will: 1) FES gameplay mechanics are more well-thought out than even diehards give it credit for. Despite a few problems like a party members behavior when set to heal/support, Party AI works well. You can literally plan your whole turn cycle before even assigning commands. After that, it just takes a general grasp on how the AI behaves w/ each tactic. that part comes naturally as you play further. Mastering it makes it one of the most rewarding combat systems. 2) The fatigue system is a great feature to counteract grinding, adds a layer of risk, and even gives you incentive to switch out party members. What's more it even becomes helpful and acts as a strategic way to increase your courage Stat. Plus for people complaining about this feature: it's pretty much mostly an early game thing, it's almost non existent by the 3rd arc of the game (by the time your courage Stat is probably full). Everything about the fatigue system feels intentional and well put together. 3) Reversing social links thru dialogue choices is handled very well in fes. it's framed very realistically, usually as a grave miscommunication or understanding of the situation. Ultimately, you need to swallow your pride and apologize. 4) As for Tarturas, you're given a lot more to think about in than you think. it's not like mementos or reload where you just sort of run headfirst into enemies. that's a good way to waste stamina. you gotta consider environment (arches, pillars), weapon speed vs range. Splitting up your party to get thru floors faster also comes with tradeoffs. you lose out on xp & allies take money they find in chests, usually spending on generic equips. Persona 3s gameplay is very smartly designed. every "restrictive" mechanic is designed with caveats in YOUR favor. - End of bubble tea thread - Also let me just add that, Reload absolutely butchered the games final boss fight, from both a gameplay and aesthetic sense. I love Reload but it feels like Diet P3 or P5 wearing the dead mangled corpse of P3. If I feel like playing P3 again it's always going to be FES I pick up.

Never played og 3 or fes, but I had planned to. Played reload since it was a remastered version of it with some added features, and man…. That game was so peak and I definitely had that as my goty. The ending had me conflicted for about 30 mins especially when going back to the main menu after credits. One of the best video game endings by far.

Reload was my first Persona and my first Persona 3 so I’m biased but I think it was perfect. I am interested in checking out Portable since I think that’s the one where you can play with a different MC so that’ll be fun

Reload expanded on things better than what people claimed portable did years ago in some of the most shallow ways for the male SEES members. Added events and combat maneuvers was cool and while those QOL changes make things easier thats simply because FES is challenging because its more unforgiving and by design lacking basic options.

Game Performance should only be with the native language of the game. It makes no sense for English voiced Aerith to win instead of it's Japanese counterpart which is the original language of the game.

Black Myth: Wukong was initially my GOTY, until I played Metaphor. Quickly became one of my favorite games of all time next to Nier: Automata. I respect and love Elden Ring, but I don't think it's DLC deserves a GOTY award. Neither does any DLC. There can be arguments for some being valid, but it's a gray area and weird lol. Also big agree Infinite Wealth deserved Erdtree's place.

Personally, when it comes to remakes, I believe they should be eligible simply because usually when you compare them to the original game, it’s completely different and yes, it does usually have the same narrative, but they be changing it up and adding more in general to the point is a whole different game compare to the og For example the final fantasy remakes they been amazing. I play Final Fantasy seven remake and comparing that to the original which I have played, it’s completely different and some of these remakes are really amazing like resident evil four never played the original, but when I played the remake, it was amazing it was peak resident evil. But I’m a little iffy on it winning game of the year
