out of all the takes here saying that Yu or Chie are the glue that keep the gang together is just so wrong. That is easily Yosuke which is why your take on him too feels really bad. He is literally the one who suggests and plans ALL the events, celebrations, trips and gatherings in the game. He is the true mc of p4 and I've always felt that. GOAT tier bro character.

Yukari does get too much hate. Like bruh she has her reasons for being a bit rude towards certain characters. But some people don't seem to pay attention to the dialogue it seems or blame the answer. Bruh Strikers/Scramble undid 99.9% of Makoto Niijima's character development turning her back into a nagging overly worried mess even though the gang dealt with worse situations in 5/royal. But nobody really talks about that very much.
They hate Yukari cause they can't have Yukari.
Yukari has a good story, I still have her in my top 5 least favorite persona characters. BUT I do see why people like her, she is pretty well written, she’s just not someone I enjoy

I think one of the things that makes the p5 cast feel less compelling sometimes is that the story and their individual plots are focused a lot on them overcoming external challenges without as much inner turmoil or conflict. In p3 and p4 the cast's conflicts had a lot to do with themselves as characters and their personalities so it often required their character traits to come through more but with p5 a lot of the plot is based around simple strategy and things much bigger than the phantom thieves individually. The game doesn't feel so focused on it's cast in that way and I think it takes more personal investment and focus to be as invested or connected to the characters, except for maybe akechi or futaba. A lot of the conflicts related to the characters are essentially around ryuji being dumb or messing up and makoto being smart and figuring stuff out

He was literally created by Igor to find the true trickster and save Igor from Yaldabaoth. Joker and the rest of the phantom thieves would know literally nothing without him. Plus I lowkey cried when he was erased but he came back so it’s all good

As for Haru she gets a lot of shine in strikers and for me she would be in solid. Her confidant link and palace is weak sauce but in Strikers shes amazing, she saved my legacy plenty of times that game.
Haru doesn’t get anything in strikers other than a relative granting her more a little more things to talk about her personal life and the trait of being bad at driving. She is still least relatable and perhaps most uninteresting party member in P5. I’ve grown to like her more overtime due to spin offs but they don’t necessarily add anything about her to make me think she’s a great character

If I was ranking the Protagonists, I'd rank them based on their canon personalities.
In which case, as much as Makoto is my favorite protagonist, I don't think he can top Joker realistically.
Makoto's whole canon arc is really interesting, and considering his past I think it's a really human change he goes through. He's still Solid though, not quite a goat.
Narukami is hilarious, and easily has the best chemistry with his team. Everyone relies on him for a good reason, and never does he feel weighed down by all the burden everyone else shares with him. And his relationship with Nanako and Dojima is also really good.
But nah, Joker's the goat. Completely reserved in public, not really one to show his true colors. But he's a complete cocky, troll to the rest of his team (especially Ryuji) and he's a complete showman in the Metaverse, which is his true self. Easily the most badass protagonist and he doesn't hide that at all.

me personally, ryuji is hard for me to rank, he's a ride or die bro for sure but his social link is so dumb and he's just annoying until the end.
honestly i was dogging ryiju being so effing stupid right there with morgana and ann tbh his stupidity was so out there and he wasn't even that funny to compensate.
my honest opinion on him, high has moments simply because he gets that moment at the end with the cruiser and that's it.
and morgana in the bottom of solid, because he doesn't fall off and has an arc all the way through the game building up to the end, and tbh, i understand why he ran off.
maybe i'm biased because i loved his commentary in day to day but that's my take in full, haven't finished p3 yet and have no interest in p4 so i can't comment on them yet

Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong, but I like she's trying to find her own way into modeling.
She starts off thinking she has to be catty and evil like that other model, so she asks you to help toughen her up.
She acknowledges that her looks gave her an advantage, but she's trying to take control of it rather being told it's doing everything FOR her.
I just like it because you see her feeling some peer pressure, then accepting that she can go at her own pace and still be successful.

I personally like the Persona 4 cast the most, which is totally personal preference... My reason... Both Persona 3 and 5 cast are "so cool", while Persona 4 cast's composed of dorks... Like i feel i could be friends with the P4 cast much easier, something about them is more grounded... And while all these characters are flawed and have their dark sides... But P3 and 5 characters are dicks to each other, while they all kiss the protagonists, ass... While P4 characters welcome new members in like family. They're just a happier bunch i guess.
You do know that Yu is super liked and a “playboy”, Rise is a literal famous idol, Naoto is a nationwide famous detective as a 15 year old, Yosuke is the son of the owner of Junes, Yukiko will inherit a super famous inn, how are any of these characters more believable, grounded or dorks
And notice how P5 has the worst overall rankings in their cast and P3 is top, W list

Edit cause my reply doesn’t make sense anymore: someone replied something along the lines of “bro thinks hating on P5 in 2024 makes him look cool” and so I said that back, everyone is entitled to their own opinion about the persona series, me personally I just don’t feel like P5 is as strong as a narrative as P3 or P4, the overall structure of the story being told through the flashback got old really fast and while it has some good characters I feel that P3 and P4 has a better overall cast.
This list sucks because it isn't my list and that is ok :)
