  • Thsi is a Motormouth Couple Car Review of the all-new BMW M2 performance car. We were really excited to get the M2 this week and it certainly doesn’t disappoint.
    The BMW M2 has a 3L twin-turbo inline-6 with a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic transmission, 453 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, standard RWD.
This feisty. small BMW M2 Coupé with incredible acceleration has the same engine that’s in the M3 and M4 models but it has been detuned by 20 horsepower. The M2 comes standard with adaptive M suspension, active M differential and M compound brakes. The characteristics of the chassis can be individually adjusted for a more comfortable or sportier ride. The BMW M2 has an aggressive and sculpted design with its squared off front, M frameless kidney grille showcasing horizontal bars and LED headlamps, available adaptive LED headlights. The rear has a wide stance, an M exhaust system with quad tailpipes, an M rear spoiler, LED taillights. a staggered 19” and 20” wheel configuration and a tire repair kit.
The interior of the BMW M2 is modern, clean and driver focused. The shifter, start/stop button, BMW controller, are grouped within a modern looking control panel at the centre console. There is a significant decrease in the number of buttons and controls in favour of digital controls for various functions. The 14.9” touchscreen and 12.3” digital driver display is behind a single glass surface. Vernasca leather and high gloss black trim are both standard but carbon fibre or aluminum trim and Merino leather are available.
The BMW M2 starts at $76,500 CAD/$63,200 USD. Price as tested $95,745 CAD.
Fuel economy isn’t great, but most don’t buy a car like this for its fuel efficiency. With the manual transmission it gets a combined 12.4L/100 km and with the automatic transmission a combined 12.7L/100 km. That’s 19 MPG for the manual and 18.5 MPG for the automatic.

@@godofdunyou’re absolutely right. Even back in 2016 when the first M2 came out everyone was bitching that it was way to big and blobby compared to the 1M …..now everyone is saying it’s the best and last good looking M car that we’ll ever see 🤦🏻‍♂️

I don’t know much about bmw’s, but I will say the exterior is a bold design and certainly makes a statement. I’m not a big fan of the giant screen on the dash, like the new Mustang I feel they look like an afterthought. Going forward I hope manufacturers try to get more creative and try and integrate them into the dash more. The carbon seats are a bit much, but I guess they are meant to go with the whole bold design. BMW knows their target buyer better than I ever will. Great review as always. I really enjoy the “leg cam” too 😁

Also I have a 1M and it is an amazing car , to me it is a perfect car other than the exhaust does not sound loud enough inside the car …outside the car it sounds great , but perfect combo of transmission , fly wheel, pedal placement for heel toe , more than enough power and the oh so sweet hydraulic steering

That M6 should have been easy to learn stick on. I taught my nephew in my '89 535i. Lots of torque, hard to stall off idle.
On to today's car, that dashboard is a no go for me!

    • @springertube
      @springertube 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

The M6 is lovely. I cut my stick-shift teeth on '64 and '65 Corvairs in the late 60s through 70s, then had a lot of seat time in a trio of friend's BMWs I helped restore - E9 ('72) 3.0CS, '76 2002 and E12 ('81) 528i. All stellar cars. (Later on a couple family and personal 1st Gen Accords, personal 1st gen Integra, and '91 Celica GTS, also great manuals). I'm not alone in the E46 M3 being my all-time favorite of the M's. Long live the stick!
      Edit: how could I forget, a friend's '73 911S in the late 70s.

I’m a new subscriber to your channel because your reviews are so thorough, funny and are geared to the “everyday driver”. I don’t need to hear from most of the other car reviewers about how long it takes a vehicle to go from 0-60. I live in New York City. Do you think I care about that. I can barely go 0-20. Also, I get a little tired of how much time is spent discussing the technology that is in the vehicle which quite frankly is too much, too complicated and too distracting. Thank you for many such quality videos where I actually learn something.

Just a great car. You two look great in it. Loved the story about the M6 and learning to drive a stick. Zack you had taste when you are a young man, 😉
To me, the M2 is best in class. Styling is a bit controversial. I am ok with it. Its not cookie cutter but not really Bangle-esque so acceptable.
Some pine about the weight of the vehicle. Not a deal breaker for me.
Its a very fast, capable car for the refined car enthusiast who doesn't want to be in your face with a Corvette with supercar wannabe styling and who also doesn't want to throw down another 30 grand for a Porsche.
I prefer it to the Supra with same BMW engine and manual.
Will end as I started. BMW nailed this car. Might pick one up in a couple years when the bloom is off the rose.

The engines are great in the BMW M products, but the shifter really is not very good. I sold my F80 M3 Comp with a manual because it really was the wrong transmission based on how bad the shifter was for a car so capable. All my cars are manual and feel the M cars are sadly better with the auto.

What my definition of "ultimate BMW" has the be the original M1, E30 M3 and E28 M5. Also add the iconic E36 and E46 M3, E34 and E39 M5. Those are the most desirable BMW M cars ever. One can also add E90 M3 to the mix. Definitely not anything with the designation of "F" and "G". Those BMW M cars have become too civilized for their own good. The shadow of BMW Motorsport's formal self compares to its glorious days.
    Zack's previous E24 M6 or 635CSi is equally brilliant too. :)

There are videos out there with the less expensive M240i Xdrive that beats the M2 with just a tuner chip. So for much less $$$$ the AWD M240i. Also I would buy a 1 or 2 year old one. They depreciate a lot and fast. The most obvious sports car that you guys forgot to mention is the New Nissan 400z also available as a manual. My $$$ would be a Nismo 400Z and I would dyno tune the car to over 500 HP. Some say that you would have to sell your turbos right after you buy the car and that way pay for the cost of new bigger ones. BTW - The Nismo is a beast.

@@bucknut2000 sorry, I don’t consider going slower and losing money on resale fun. Today’s real sports cars are all automatics. Manuals are for aging men trying to go back in time.

Great car, but the rear end is not so pretty… and I like a good looking rear section.
Moreover, I can stand how lazy both BMW and Mercedes have gotten with their technology integration: They simply slapped a monitor on the dashboard. 😂
The rest of the car is nice.

Agree on the rear... like the designers struggled to resolve those great M fenders into the derriere, and ended with a confused origami mess especially in the corners... and the dash. Not a fan of these new digital panels, but if you're going to do it Cadillac and the Koreans do it better. To me, the best back-end was the E46 M3. Purposefully hunky, but proportionate and refined.

I do not get it with this one guys. I’m sure the drive is very good, but the styling is a serious whiff. Just because BMW’s other models are even uglier, nah. The rectangular bits in the front are proportionally weird and blocky, the side looks like a step-side pickup truck, then it’s weird in the back again. And power-to-weight? This car is over 3800 lbs. This is supposed to be the lightweight nimble one? Yikes. Most cars today are pretty heavy but this should be lighter. At this price it’s gotta tick EVERY box so hard pass ! Still love the review! 🫶🏼

Strikes me as a sports car for chicks. I think those seats had to he designed for women as well. Most men would choose a new Vette over this M2 for the money spent.

This is a car designed by fashionistas and marketing-people first and M-engineers last. What a shame it doesn't even have those superior classic BMW analog gauges, which were honed and perfected over the decades. All this decades-long effort went down the drain, because few fashion hipsters behind this car didn't think it looked cool enough to draw-in a new generation of BMW buyers, whom they evidently perceived as shallow and stupid. NEWSFLASH! BMWs used to be about perfect functionality, not about design fads! I hope that at some point there will be a default option to turn on those classic gauges, and get rid of other distracting fads such as skewed displays. Also bring back the real buttons for the AC! What a joke BMW has become, but unfortunately I don't think anything will change.
