Volkswagen is going back to more physical buttons soon. Happy to see that. Everything on a touchscreen is one of the worst things to happen to cars in recent years. The same goes for fake exhausts.

Two decades ago, the press was unhappy about all the buttons and yet praising cars that have more features (features need controls), I'm glad there's now more awakening to the fact that we needed those buttons. I remember the Panamera and Cayenne had a lot of buttons laid out on the centre channel and there was always a negative comments in the press about that.

Im confused. The bmw owners wanted bmws to maintain boxy and aggressive proportions. When they get that… they dont want it? Maybe the bumper grills look a little off but this is definitely a bmw
Funny it was slated by everyone when it came out, then Chris Harris drove one and said it’s fantastic, now they all say it’s fantastic. There’s nothing out there that looks anything like it. Great value as well.
I've always liked it from day one and that's just from what I saw of it online. A recent visit to the dealers and seeing one in the flesh confirmed what I thought, it's a fantastic looking machine very different to anything else on the road.
I just can't get past the look of it - horrible! Was going to order one, gutted. Even tried to overcome my hatred with a test drive, but no. I can't go there. Bought a low mileage 911 Carrera T instead, one of my better decisions as it is awesome.
I literally love this car in term of look and presence! The only thing I really can't understand is the weight! And even if I had the intention of buying I don't know if that 1700 kg is a number I'm willing to forgive!

It's no suprise, we know modern BMW drivetrains are great, it would just be nice if the exterior wasn't awkward - this M2 is very colour dependent imo, in some colours it looks much better like black because soo much of the awkward lines are harder to spot.
I just don’t get the negativity about the looks ? The front end is so much better looking than the Beaver tooth four series And you can still have a manual. Genuinely last chance to buy into the end of an era 🎉🎉🎉
I’m surprised that reviewers don’t mention that there is substantially less rear seat headroom compared to the previous generation. I’m 5 ft 11 and I can’t sit in the back
The target demographic for a 2-series coupe buyer is a single male with no kids. Or a second car where there's a more practical daily driver. In a pinch, people fit in the back (maybe very cramped). If you see yourself carrying people, a 340i is more practical for the same money.

"but wait it's a sports car fuel and tyres are getting trashed regardless" yes but we live in the UK and most M buyers cruise down motorways and city roads we care about these things if we use it for more than 2 days a week.
I'm sure it's very well hidden, but going downhill on a mountain road and heavily breaking before a corner will make you feel every kg of it! You can't deny physics! I'm sure it's a brilliant daily though and in fact I'd love to have one! But I don't see it as a sport car for the weekend! It just isn't that anymore

The back end is dream, the front end is a nightmare. It literally looks like they forgot to add a piece in under the reg plate. The M240i looks soooooo much better Just my opinion though, I went to look at both as my Supra is now 2 years old and the 240i was a hoot!!!!!!
Good thing there's a thing called "aftermarket parts" that can easily solve that problem for less then 300$ lmao. That's what I don't get about people. Same thing about the m3 and m4 grille. Theres like 4 different ones u can buy and they look amazing

I love what bmw did with the m2. I use to always hate the m2 becuase it looked like the little less powerful m3 but now it is its own car. Very good move from bmw.
forget power. you can buy a chip tune that adds over 80 hp extra to this engine with 0 supporting mods, immediately makes it more powerful than a base M3 or M4.
Usually people would buy this type of car because they want something a bit special and still be able to have the family join them and get shopping in the boot. Usually really enjoy the reviews here but this was a bit of a read of the spec sheet, and oh it’s fast, heavy, not great looking…
I've always loved physical buttons, I remember way back when the press was complaining about all the buttons, and now everyone wants buttons. So I guess it goes to be careful what you wish for. It's kind of like the ever rising power that almost no one needs. Cars like this with lesser power are more drivable and still more fun that the scary monsters with power so high you have to practice caution all the time you're driving them.
Ok that doesn’t sound too bad. Still not as easy to press the right spot on the screen without taking your eyes off the road. Buttons you can use from feel.
The M2 Competition drives like a go-kart. Not a daily car, especially after a long day heading home on B roads. Wonder if this new M2 has a more reasonably easy suspension.
These iPad style infotainment system is getting somehow out of control. Like the Porsche taycan, I remember that I have to go to three user interfaces to adjust the air vent direction. I think it will be dangerous to do so if I am on a highway.
I like the looks, although I wouldn't buy one as I don't buy new cars unless they are GT3s and Porsche won't let me have one... But what shocked me is that you said that the Alpine is a competitor, it really isn't, not even remotely. Oh and i adore the Alpine. Oh and weight is psychological 😮, except you feel it at the petrol station, when you have to replace the tyres and the brakes.

Bmw design process doesn’t make any sense. The 2013 m2 was rough, angular, aggressive. This new model is rounded, smooth, calm. However all the other cars in the lineup for bmw are rough angles aggressive shapes, the new m2 doesn’t fit the rest of the current family and just looks horrible ugly.
Not sure how people can say this looks hideous. There are far worse looking cars out there. I saw a red one in my local dealer and in the flesh it looks good 👍

The suspension might hide the weight, but the increased wear on the brakes will show the weight

The M2 looks OK to me, but I don't like the putty-grey colour. It would look better in loud purple or something.
The colour options are unfortunately very limited when they have an awesome purple for the 240i. I'm sure more will be released in future models.

Weight would make the car extra traction especially it doesn't have outrageous down force elements n figures

It launched in that baby blue colour (hideous). Now the grille is such a relief after the M4's cod-like appearance.

There's not much space in the back for a family. The M3 is better for that.
first thing you notice....dead steering.....after 6 months of ownership....it is the most disappointing part of the drive.

Don’t have to go on a mission for heated seats. Climate controls are always in a dedicated section at the bottom of the touch screen. No menu needed.

Have a 21 M2C and drove the new one kept the old one.
