- Hello everyone and welcome to today's installment of Beyond The Mask. As I'm in the process of writing some Scream inspired novels, today I'm going to be sharing segments of this chapter with you. So sit back and relax as I talk you through why Principle Himbry was really murdered and what significance this held for Billy.

I always thought himbrys death was used as a lure to clear the macher house of the party when stu left the room and called the landline to tell randy. By announcing it to the whole room, billy and stu ensured that most of the guys would leave to see the body, leaving sidney and randy in the house for the final act.
And to keep most, if not all of the police busy and away from Stu's house.
My thoughts exactly
Tbh I don't think they even wanted to kill Randy.. certainly not Stu. Stu has several times he could kill Randy like being behind him on the couch and on the porch when Randy is trying to tell Sid that Stu is the killer yet he let's him live both times
Has left Sydney and Randy in the house for the final real life

Principle Himbry was such a random kill but they needed another kill in the movie cause they didn't have enough kills but Himbry dying makes sense in the story to get the teens out of Stu house to set up the climax.
This actually makes me think of something. What were Billy's and Mrs. Loomis's feelings to Hank and while I bet they both hate him, why didn't they kill him?
I think they viewed him as a pathetic weak man that fell prey to the town slut Maureen Prescott, that's why Billy blamed her more than dad.

@@1337hatcher I can see maybe in Scream 7. Hopefully they get Sydney back and you can have people from through the series who were affected all because people wanted her that they could believe getting her and Sam now out of the way would end the need for ghostface for good

I do like how you write it in Billy’s POV, he is more composed, calculating but hiding a deep rage. You made Billy seem like a victim who cannot process the trauma and vengeance so he turned into killing. If anything, this makes Sam Carpenter’s wooden performance more interesting as it reflects your take on Billy Loomis, as both Billy and Sam hold lots of pain inside while trying to appear ‘calm’ on the surface. There are theories there is an inherited mental illness passing down in the Loomis family from Debbie to Billy to Sam, which I believe could be true, more specifically delusions or paranoid schizophrenia, as Billy can’t seem to tell the difference between films and reality, while Sam has hallucinations.
Beyond the mask is massively underrated. Videos are ALWAYS high quality and his content is consistent.

My guess to this answer was that he represented some sort of authority role that the pair wanted to destroy in order to cause more panic and instability in the community. On another note, it had also been quite a bit of screen time since the previous death
I always wondered as well why they moved him all the way to the goalposts, but more importantly how they were not caught!
I think billy showed up at stu's house late cuz he spent the last few hours dealing with himbrys corpse and when he got there he saw tatum was there and recognized shed be a problem so he took her out first by having stu ask for another beer to get her into the garage away from the party. 🤯
A really good thing about Scream is that Billy and Stu do everything for a good reason.

I always thought that was the most random murder in the whole movie, and it made no sense. Why would they risk doing that during the day
Billy killed him because the principal insulted him. So many of who Billy and Stu targeted was simply because they couldn’t handle criticism or rejection.

I am absolutely reading this when it comes out.
On a personal note, since you have done such an amazing job giving us a look at what happens off-camera, I hope you shed a light on how Stab winds up portraying the circumstances surrounding Casey's death. I would assume they are adapting the scene directly from Gale's book, but since everyone involved with that event is dead prior to Gale writing her book, it is kind of crazy how accurate that scene plays out in Stab/Woodsboro Murders (specifically what was said in the phonecalls).
Did Billy keep a journal?
How Gale knows/finds out has always intrigued me. Hope your work touches on that.

I love this and it just makes so much sense! I honestly would couple this with the distraction theory. But that Billy thought of the distraction plan after he had killed him.
Himbry was killed because they needed to get the teens out of the house and the was about 30 minutes were no one dies. This was from Wes Craven.

I liked how Craven made "The Fonz" a red herring, as he had one of the most basic slasher motivations to kill the high school kids (resentment; jealousy/envy of lost youth; condescension of youthful stupidity/naivety) only to get whacked as a side kill. I was suspecting him as the killer up to that moment... it's kind of like watching *Tenebrae* for the first time.
Just remember to put in all deleted scenes 'Beyond The Mask', otherwise you know some following scenes won't make a lick of any sense right?, or as Randy states 'Simplicity'
I thought that Himbry wasn’t meant to die in the film, but the Weinstein’s felt that there was too much time in the film between the murders of Casey and Steve and the next murders at Stu’s party. So, Kevin or Wes put together the murder of Principal Himbry to appease the producers and make it to where there is not a huge gap between killings in the movie as it was originally written to be.
And to add to Scream’s meta nature, the original script for Scream 2 had the scene on the quad with Gale, Dewey, and Randy discussing who the next victim might be if they are copying the pattern of the original murders. Dewey states that Mr. Himbry was the next victim after Steve and Casey. Gale stops him and says that this was true in real life, but when she wrote her book, The Woodboro Murders, her editor and the studio had her remove Mr. Himbry’s death from the story and replace it with Tatum’s death. According to Gale, the editor and studio felt Tatum’s death would be more dramatic and fit the narrative of the book and movie better. This all was cut bc of script changes and leaks, but it’s a neat commentary regarding how the studio made the original film insert himbry’s death into the film to keep the tension going, and in the movie within a movie, Gale was asked to remove Himbry’s death bc Tatum’s death was believed to add more dramatic tension to Stab 1.
He certainly was a creep towards Sidney in that one scene
There wasn't really much of a reason it was to lure everyone from stus party and they had the party in the first place to attract Sidney and Tatum there

It was confirmed in commentary by Craven and Williamson that Himbry was killed after a footnote from the producer (he who shall not be named) that there was a huge gap between kills in the movie. Himbry was chosen not only to provide another death, but also to serve as a plot point to have the majority of teens vacate Stu’s house before the final act bloodbath.
Harvey Weinstein. He is named.

Not gonna lie, the first time I watched the movie, I suspected Principal Himbry as the killer right up until he was killed himself. So I've always just looked at it as that theory being squashed early on and never even thought of more of a reason.
Well I am supportive for everyone’s interpretation of interlude of scenes but I lean hardly on Stu killing Billy simply to get himself (Stu) hype for the final act. Also The Jason character’s last name should be Walker to imply Charlie walker’s parentage were there during this event. Also Stu mentioned peer pressure I figure Billy and Stu must’ve spoke between classes with a cold and calm anger after Sidney’s argument he tells Stu “are you in or out of the third act?” Not wanting to let Billy down made his commitment clear. But that part of there only being 1 costume for the entire killing spree does add suspense for the villain which is nice done.
Also the video you did with insert of Sam finding her mother’s diary should’ve played in the year book of the class of 1996 so Sam could satisfy curiosity of who Parents, Sid and her click were more over incidentally stumbled upon Christine’s diary.
I remember seeing reading someone else novelization of Scream on a site while researching slasher genre in novels.
Personally, I would love to read multiple novelizations of Scream. Everyone interprets art differently which should influence creativity to grow.

This was so crazy. Before I came to this video I came to the same conclusion that Billy killed him for another mask since Stu left his on Sidney’s door step. The theory that he killed him to get the last of the party guest out of the house was unrealistic even in movie nature because they couldn’t have predicted who was gonna leave and who wasn’t but surprisingly it worked out.

Ironically enough there was a house principal at my old high school everyone hated and if we didnt have police on campus, I could see someone doing this to him.

Principle Himbry should have a son that wants to kill Sam for her father killing his. Imagine he had a young child we don’t know about and he wants revenge. Sidney had nothing to do with it and billy is dead so it would only make sense to target sam and Tara. Billy stabbed him brutally and hung him from the goal post.
