I still think Scream 3 was a missed opportunity to open up the movie with Maureen’s murder. It would’ve switched the formula up a bit also and given us a chance to see Billy and Stu on screen and how they framed Cotton, then cut to present day.

I think this would've been an easy replacement for the beginning of Scream, since I think it fits better with the dread in it and we don't have a trivia based kill that ultimately isn't used again until Scream 4.
No way, the twist was amazing. I'm not sure how old you are, but I was 14 back in 1996 (saw it in the theater!), and at the time there were not many clever twists like that in film, especially horror, and it's what stuck with me the most over the years, as with many other fans. When you don't know who it is you're suspenseful of MULTIPLE characters, not just one....but Scream gave us an extra twist by making it 2 people, so even if you guessed one of them, chances are you didn't see the two killer twist coming. It would be way less entertaining, and way less original if it let you in on who it was from the start, hell no (just my opinion, no offense!). I think it WOULD be cool though, to have another version of the first film from Billy's perspective, instead of Sidney, now that the cat's out of the bag though. I think that could be interesting to see things from the baddie's perspective.

Exactly. Roman's retcon took away Billy & Stu's thunder, big time. Roman had nothing to do with the Woodsboro and Windsor collage murder's. He was only Ghostface in Hollywood. He wasn't a third killer or a mastermind like people convince themselves of.
