    We were there last year and we saw quite a few Rolls Royce parking on the street. I think almost 70% out of 70 thousand residents living in that BKK1 district are foreigners (Japanese, Americans, Europeans, Korean, Singaporean, Chinese….). There are many huge and fancy coffee shops in Cambodia. Yes, we also saw a lot of Range Rover SUV’s. Very popular over there.

    Hi Zane, at 10:35 actually Cambodia GDP is $45b(rebase) in 2024. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects that Cambodia’s GDP will grow by 6.1% in 2024, up from 5.6% in 2023. This positions Cambodia as the fastest-growing economy in Southeast Asia for the upcoming year. However, some sources, such as Open Development Cambodia, report an even higher of 7% GDP growth for Cambodia in 2024 projection of 7% GDP growth for Cambodia in 2024.

    • @rex_07RT
      @rex_07RT 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cambodia just rebased GDP as per recommend by the IMF. Currently, Cambodia gdp is at around 45billions $, increase 35% from previous base gdp. This makes Cambodia’s already low debt to gdp ratio even lower to just 26.4%, second lowest in asean only behind Brunei. Normally, countries are recommended to rebase their GDP every 5 years or so, but Cambodia didn’t rebase its own GDP for past 20 years, so a 35% increase is totally normal.

      Assess LDC is based on the entire country as the whole. What he didn't show was the poor destitute hood and many of them just right in the backyard. Koh Pich (Diamond Island) was a brand new neighborhood and mostly foreigner's residents. About 3km from that island, it was a poor destitute hood. I am not sure, whatever he is the LDC activist.

    According to my Cambodian friend, the import tax on new cars is 100% of thier price. Used cars are assessed 75% duty so there are a lot of creative ways to render a new car used.
    In 2019 I saw a uniformed officer driving a new Rolls Royce in Battambang. With import duty that's near a million dollar car.

  • @Aciel_Yu
    @Aciel_Yu 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Also, one thing to note about Cambodia is that all imported vehicles that you see on the road have 100% imported tax. So the price of any vehicles there is 2x the price of original price that you see in other countries. So it's not just all those high end vehicles that are expensive, all the cars in Cambodia are expensive.

    Looks a lot nicer than when I was there in 2013, although I did notice the trend of Boba/ Coffee shops starting then. I also saw a lot of range rovers and expensive pick up trucks at that time. I'd speculate it was the elite/ kids of the elite rather than the result of growth from development at the time.

    hey zane, just a note about the use of the word "mandarin". mandarin is the spoken official language of china. the written language is always referred to as chinese. so whenever you see a written sign it is always in chinese, just like you wouldn't refer to a sign in english as written in texan, new england, etc. there is a difference in the written language as the one used in china is called simplified and the other type is called traditional but both are written chinese. anyway keep up the good content.

      @@Boom38119 Most elites do not live in penthouses, its just viewed very differently. They like big things, most of their houses are at the outskirts of the city, big villas, worth millions. If you come to Phnom Penh, you will see the condo and apartment business are not doing well. People prefer living in separate house, therefore you can find the price of any condos and apartment to rent cheaply.

    UN takes time to update their country. Cambodia’s HDI increased from .593 to .600. We are only looking at the small sample of PP, which of course will be highly developed, but the rural and smaller cities are less developed in Cambodia. We still lack public transportation and other infrastructure. I believe you need a 0.700 to graduate from the 3rd world/less developed status, into “developing” status. 0.700 is seen as high HDI, 0.600 is seen as medium, any thing under 0.600 is low HDI

    My favorite place in SE Asia so far is Ho Chi Minh City, as it strikes my perfect balance between being well developed and still being a great deal. Phnom Penh is on the less developed side, but still very interesting to me. Especially with a path to residency (Cambodia My 2nd Home program), it's a place I'll keep considering as a potential long-term base/home. Thanks for the tours!
