I left the country back in 1979 after I had to live through the genocide under Pol Pot killing madness. Most of my family members did not survive as we were forced to move out of the Phnom Penh City in 1975 to work in the rice fields.
I've returned to visit my sole surviving sister every year for the last ten years since my retirement from the US to heal the past. It's very safe to visit Cambodia now as the country has come a long way since the prolonged civil war was officially ended upruptly in 1998.
Be mindful of your surroundings . Be kind whenever possible. It's always possible as life is short to do the things we don't love doing.
Happy and safe travels from a genocide survivor ✌️
Bless
Thanks you guys for choosing Cambodia to live my name is Keith aka sokha I am born and raised in Cambodia what's 1984 I move to live in United States in St Louis Missouri until now I plan to retire and go back to live in Cambodia
The guy with the dog looked like a gentleman and a scholar
I lived there for 14 yrs. Im now retired, and have a tiny pension that would last me 2 weeks. Such a shame. We have to pay to live in this world, and believe me i've paid a price living in the U.K.😮
I like to back to my birth country Cambodia for retirement very soon right now i live in Canada for the last more than 40 years in Montreal and Toronto Canada i always love my birth country Cambodia the reason I left Cambodia because of war during my generation the last time I went back to Cambodia in 2016 thanks for sharing your video from my beautiful country Cambodia by the way i came from posat province do you been to my home province before? Take care bye from milton Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Yes, I have been to Pursat, it is a lovely province!
Nice<
a far cry from when i lived over there in 2008
Thank for sharing ❤
Very good & thorough presentation - Enjoyed - Best wishes 👋🙏
Great video. Thank you!
Looks great!
I appreciate your efforts with this ambitious video, thanks.
Nice overview… new subscriber. Thanks
Welcome!
Love your video ❤❤
Thanks for sharing Mariam.
Great video, thanks. I like you 😊
Thank a lot
This is a very nice video to watch
Great job... Looking forward for more. New subscriber.
Wow, Awesome and informative video. Will subscribe so i can see what more you have. Please do other areas also if you can? Thanks 👍
Thanks for your feedback - sure I can do some more videos highlighting what makes other areas of Phnom Penh special - and maybe even other provinces!
We comeing this month
We like
that guy with the dog was pretty hansom. get little video.
First time we go there
Thank you for the video. Beautiful pools! One quick question Is that better than BKK1?
It depends on what you want. If you like to be in the middle of the action, then BKK1 may be better for you. However, if you want to live somewhere peaceful and go out to nightlife occasionally but have a quiet place to come home to at the end of the night, then Chroy Changvar might be a good place for you
@@themaven2017 Thank you Is Chroy Changvar a safe place?
Condo today
Because I saw you
Nice video. Wish that you'd have included the prices, but as they say "if you have to ask the price; you can't afford it!"
Since I did include sample prices for condos, I guess you mean prices for the boreys? There are several newer boreys which will have higher prices, but in Borey Sopheak Mongkol, the oldest borey, shophouses range from $300-800. Duplexes/twin houses range from $500-1,000. Row houses also $500-1,000. Villas range from $1,000-2,000.
@@themaven2017 Thank for your reply! I guess I was so mesmerized by your video that it went right by me! That island of yours looks fabulous. You're such a natural on video. Very interesting and informative. Thanks again!
The Mekong View Tower website came up with a danger warning. I am coming to live in Phnom Penh soon, looking for a place. Maybe we could meet.. I'd love a ferry trip across the river.
It is very typical that businesses in Cambodia just buy a domain but not the ssl certificate. Many don't even bother with websites anymore and rely solely on a Facebook page.
❤️
I hope we find good place
There are plenty of great places to live in Chroy Changvar!
❤❤❤
Hiw is the strength of the infrastructure, maintenance, etc , I'd be worried if the elevators went out. There must be backup generators i hope!
Yes, condos and modern businesses all have generators. It's good to make sure you have a phone with you in case the power goes out when you are in an elevator, but getting stuck in one rarely happens. I have heard of it, but it has never happened to me

Congratulations on your new condo! I know you will enjoy living in Chroy Changvar!
Hi I’m glad I found u I want to take a trip there in a few months hopefully. But I heard the capital is dangerous NOT like America big city dangerous but more like grab snatchers robberies on your person ALOT‼️🙄
I will also go to Siem Reap to figure out which I might move to my is the capital REALLY THAT BAD🤷🏼♀️‼️Im very street smart etc etc but I think I’m more worried bout the food and always getting sick when it comes to the food situation any tips and or advice?
And my biggest concern is I MUST HAVE A DRYER IN MY UNIT WITH A WASHING MACHINE BUT A DRYER IS A DIRE MUST HAVE‼️‼️
Call me spoiled but I don’t want to hang my clothes outside with bugs getting in them, I mean if I only do the laundry once a week at most or every other week than I don’t see how my electric bill will be too high 🤷🏼♀️
Ok any info will be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Phnom Penh is only as dangerous as you make it. Yes there are bag snatchers, but they look for easy targets, so don't be one. Watch out for drunk drivers, especially at night.
Siem Reap has a totally different vibe. I would never want to live there and people who live there feel the same about Phnom Penh. Crime is equal and not a factor between the two.
I had more experiences with food poisoning in the US than in Cambodia. It is easy to spot which street vendors are reliable, and there are many restaurants with good reputations. I will caution this, if you do get an upset stomach and your sure it was the food, don't think "three strikes and your out" rather think "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me"
It's hard to find dryers, but I'm sure you can. I've never had bugs in my clothes in 17 years. You will have to buy your own. I am unaware of any rentals coming with a dryer, but you can find rentals with a washing machine.
Hello great info. What about tennis? 🎾
Great question! I know there are tennis courts in Phnom Penh, but I don't know about Chroy Changvar specifically. There is a sports club on the north side of Tuol Kork that has one.
Thank you. What about safety in PP what areas to avoid moving to? Thx
@@mysfz8688 Lakeside has a lot of drug activity. Part of the Riverside around Street 130 has a lot of "girly bars" and probably best to be avoided. Other than that, it depends on if you are retired or working, because I find transportation to be a high expense and can eat up a lot of time in traffic, so you have to consider your lifestyle. I enjoy living in Chroy Changvar because it is very peaceful, and it is no problem to go "over the bridge" a few times per week to attend events, go to the movies or eat at a favorite restaurant. If you are working, it is best to find a good place close to where you work to avoid a commute.
@@themaven2017 thank you. We are retired so no issues in commuting. What about the area by the Airport and K mall? ( there are a few tennis courts in the area) sure appreciate your lifestyle and keeping it easy.
@@mysfz8688 there is plenty of housing, but if you plan on interacting with other foreigners, it's not a good idea to be so far out. You may feel isolated and the culture shock may be more severe. I would stick closer to the city centre for the first year. In a few years when the new airport opens on the south side, if they have a system it could be a new hotspot, but not yet
Phnom Penh population 2.8 million in 2024 and up to 3.2 million in 2025
How do you handle the high heat and humidity besides having to be confined to air conditioning? And how do you compare Phnom Penh to Siem Reap? Or Phnom Penh compared to reasonably relaxed smaller cities like DaNang or Nha Trang in Vietnam?
I spent my summers growing up in the state of Georgia, and the heat/humidity is nothing like the South! Siem Reap (or towns in VN) is much smaller and a slower pace, although you don't have to be busy in Phnom Penh, but there are more options.
@@themaven2017 You mean the humidity in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap isn't as bad as the south such as Miami or Georgia?
@@dovygoodguy1296 absolutely!
@@themaven2017 Is it the same for places in Vietnam and Thailand that are usually considered uncomfortably hot and humid?? I'm only familiar with the humidity and heat during July and August in New York City. The only break is when it rains and itthe humidity breaks for a while.
@@dovygoodguy1296 yes, the climate is similar to Thailand and Vietnam, however, VN being on the coast probably has more humidity
Do you currently rent a condo? What sort of living arrangement do you have?
I have lived in a borey on Chroy Changvar for the past nine years. Prior to that I lived in an upstairs apartment of a shophouse near the Royal Palace for eight years.
For me this is best, because I have several pets. If I wanted to live much more simply, I think a condo would be a great option.
@@themaven2017 Is a “borey” a single house that is connected side by side? I’m in California and this is something new to me.
@@heythave I explain it in the video and show footage. Basically it's a gated community and there are several housing options inside, townhouses, duplexes, single homes with gardens, etc
@@themaven2017 I see. Thanks.
Any contact for buy a condo?
Yes! There is a link in the description for the Mekong Towers website. It would be nice if you mention that you became interested because of this video :)
So many people post videos about how good Cambodia is but not one video of how bad the country side is away from the city light
It's true that there are areas to stay away from, especially at night. Thank you for the idea for a future video!
@@themaven2017 I’m not suggesting that you put your life in danger.
I just think that if the tubers that visit Cambodia be honest and show the poverty side of the country that not everyone has the glitz and glamour
To live there you will need a motorbike, or a car.
Studio in Cambodia for 250 dollars....that fucken expensive for a poompoom yamyam country!😢😢😢😢
It's actually pretty good compared to other areas of Phnom Penh
Save 40$ a night hotel
BORING NO SIDEWALKS....NO CORNER CAFE'S ....BORING NO ACTIVITIES...NOISY BIKES. .I HATE RESTAURANTS.....
So, I think you don't like all of Phnom Penh, and perhaps all of Cambodia, but I appreciate you taking the time to watch my video anyway :)
@@themaven2017The person may have a problem with life itself, not just with any particular location.
Nobody walks dogs nobody likes cats very rare...they rather consume them😢
They pick there noses all the time and all have ugly teeth!
There are some people in Cambodia that eat both dogs and cats, but it isn't widespread here. The culture regarding pets is changing quickly for the better.
Poorest Cambodian 0.2% eat dog not mean 99% eat dog, don't confused.
Omg, what rock did you crawl out of?
An agent flogging apartments. Do not waste your time viewing.
Thank you for your comment. I actually live in one of the boreys in Chroy Changvar and I enjoyed sharing some of my favorite places. Since I don't live in a condo, but wanted to give a balanced overview of living options, I'd like to thank Mekong View Towers for allowing my to film on their properties.
Just one named business recommendation after another and most of your other blogs are the same. There is no doubt in my mind when you start quoting prices for Mekong View.
The public are not all stupid.
@@PeterBren I wish you the best Peter and thank you for making me laugh. This is the only video I have made about Chroy Changvar, you obviously haven't seen any of my other content. Borey Sopheak Mongkol doesn't have a website, but if you are looking for a quiet place to live, any tuktuk driver knows where it is and can bring you to see what houses are available. As for shops and restaurants, I would hope people could recognize them if they come to visit.
