    Great vid! i have 2 Ap1s, a 2000 and a 2002. My 2000 has a hard top and i dont run a passenger seat. it has a Teketa intake, 255 squared with Potenza 200 tw tires on 17' 949 racing 6ULs, Test pipe and Invida dual exit exhaust. My 2002 has a Invida single exit exhaust. My 2000 is 2620lbs now, Hopefully when i swap over the exhaust it will be 2600lbs. love what your doing with your car. I had a e46 M3 for 7 years and it was just so heavy. These cars really are one of the best sports cars ever made.RAW!

    I used to build Honda engines over 15 years ago. When dialing in vtec crossover I was never able to lower vtec more 500rpm without a power dip. Tuning the air intake length helps with the low end. Velocity stack also helps. Good luck

    This is great content. I never thought of milling the cylinder head retarding the timing. Makes sense due to the linkages being the same but the distance being shorter.
    One small thing you may want to consider, when you narrate, maybe run your recording through a white noise filter. That's what I do and it seems to improve the perceived quality of the audio.
    Excited to see the results.

    I have a question in regards to timing. I am running this same setup, but when it comes to timing, am I looking just put all the marks in line at TDC as if though its stock (regardless of what the adj timing gear reads), or am I looking to advance the timing of the cams 2-3 degrees specifically when crank/timing gear are at TDC? If the question is unclear, let me know and I can do my best to elaborate more as to what I'm asking.

    at 11:13 when you talk about valvetrain design of the K series and F series, it reminds me of a comparison that i found out. The F series and the K series can be traced back to the Honda H series engine. The amount of stuff that are similar is uncanny.
    There is a reason why many companies made "F to H" or "K to H" intake manifold adapters. I look at the F20C or F22C engine as a perfected H series. It has all the good stuff with none of the drawbacks. On H22's and H23's the biggest problem was the horrible rod-stroke ratio that caused the crankshaft to be very fragile at high rpm.
    A lot of H guys used to run these t 8k rpm or more. This issue has been fixed in the honda s2000 from what ive seen. Also the S2000 has those really beefy conrods that help with strength. And the FRM is better integrated to the engine block as well it seems.
    F20C/F22C is such an incredible engineering feat that it still boggles my mind how they developed it in the 90s. Also, since H series cranks are hard to get now some are using K24 cranks instead, just needs a little bit of modification but still fits.

    Agreed on the FC timing system being better than the K series. Though I would expect it to be since the FC wasn't quite as mass produced as the K series.

    I’m kind of surprised that no manufacturer, to my knowledge, has a single larger cam “lobe” that ramps up smoothly, picture a curved metal shape. The follower would ride up the curve as the cam moved smoothly back and forth thru the rev range.
    No steps, just a smooth ramp.

    Please believe me and do yourself a favor, lower the vtec much more. Adding the ballade cams on my fully built f22 allowed me to go as deep as 3500rpm and my tuner picked up a ton of torque and power down there. Its not true that higher vtec is faster. Its night and day and my car feels as if it hade more displacement with this mod. At least test on the dyno and you will see. 👆

    • @AutoworksJAL

      Did exactly the same on my DC5 Type R. VTEC in @4000. What a difference. Picked up torque everywhere, loads of difference below 6000rpm.

    @nobodynoone2500 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The numbers are VERY important. I'm surprised you haven't used one of the many engine simulators to pick a cam. I found out that few if any of the cams I looked at had what I wanted for lower rpm performance. Also, putting a more aggressive cam in non-vtec usually kills power unless you have higher compression pistons. You can tune the cam timing independently too. Take your cams and measure them your way, so you have apples to apples comparison, although ramp slope is also a factor.
    p.s. My cams totally made power everywhere, but because I spec'd them for my engine config. If you just buy an off-the-shelf cam results are almost always a small gamble. PLEASE stop dismissing the data and rednecking it, only to then say you are explaining stuff to us (before you even dyno the car.) You can do better.

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have raised compression. If you have something like VTEC then sure you can make more power everywhere, that comment was for standard cam engines. You have to give up something somewhere to gain something somewhere else. I'm sorry you feel like I'm dismissing data and rednecking it whatever that means. You cannot use a simulator to account for every single mod on the engine and how it will interact with a certain cam profile. The beauty of having freedom of choice is that we can choose what content we to take time out of our lives to consume or not anonymous person with zero content, zero data uploaded.
