Been an Acura/Honda tech for a long time. Valve adjustments are overlooked by a lot of people. We do them as part of the 100,000 mile service and I’ve had many customers call back and say how much better the car runs after.
I definitely messed up my valve lash. I did not use shims with that angle and my valvetrain was loud. I plan on pulling the motor again this winter so thanks for the tips.
@@TheSlipAngle built k24. I’m pulling the motor anyways and I was going to revisit this while it was out. So the timing for your video works out is what I meant.
What do you think about the go, no go, method? There is a lot of mechanics feel in this task, and the go, no go, method can help people who have not developed the feel yet, or who don't do this a lot. But, good video showing what it looks like when you are in the sweet spot. Thanks.
That is a great video. I don't know much about valve adjustments and I have a few questions that may seem basic to you and most of your viewers. My 2004 S2000 has 81,500 kilometers on the motor. I'm not sure when of if it has ever been adjusted as I've only put 2,000 kms since purchasing it in 2020. What is the recommended mileage to make a valve adjustment on the S2000? Also asking because I own a 1994 Integra GSR with almost 90,000 kms. I bought it new in 94. The service rep at Acura told me to ignore the valve adjustment service recommended to be done at 48,000 kms and to wait for the next recommended interval at 96,000 kms to adjust the valves. I barely drive the Integra 350 to 500 kms per year these last few years. Should I go ahead and have the valves adjusted because of the age of the car, or wait until the valves get loud, or wait until 96,000 kms? Currently, there is no discernable excessive valve knock when the engine runs.
@@TheSlipAngle Thanks for your speedy reply. I had no idea, I really appreciate your input. I will have it done as soon as I bring out the cars from winter storage in May.
Nice video, what do you think about those camshafts quality wise? Some say that they are regrinded oem cams and you have to screw the adjustment screw all the way in to get proper valve lash.
Thats exactly the case. Have them as well an they are regrinded oems. Also they make a distinct whining noise. Maybe you dont notice at first but it is the case.
Would a bare long block work with a 04-05 AP2? I still have my f22c1 motor for the valve cover and throttle body.. they selling a built f20c1 and I'm tempted
Dude that is nuts. You're right, Miata system sucks ass compared to this. I wonder what it's like on the coyote or FA20. Also I probably need to do it on the FZ09. Either way, good info.
I do not like doing the valve lash on my s2000. still waiting on the rx7 build you mentioned long ago :) just supercharge the s2k already, your spending time and money on pennies for hp
You will notice a distinct whine after they are installed. Listen closely then you know what i mean. One can see in the video the adjustment bolts have to be turned down all the way to make up for what has been grinded away from the oem cam. Thats what these cams are regrinded oems. Just include idling noise with some revving in the next video and i know this noise can be heard.
No whining at all actually. I've heard of others saying they had it though. The car has been through tuning, dyno and some street ripping already. She runs good now. Wait till the next videos to see the results!
@@TheSlipAngle looking forward to the results - keep up the good work man! You know what the s2k is all about. Have a similar setup, NA Power keeping the true spirit
You’ve given me the confidence to try and do this myself. Thanks for that
Awesome!

First thing I did when I picked up my 06. It was loud and now its quiet. Great video!
I’m saving this video, thank you! Maybe I’ll gather up the courage to try this on mine, I’m at 51k miles and never done it. Everything’s stock.
Dealer quoted me $457 a couple of days ago. (San Antonio, Tx)
awesome channel. you got the Ap1 running very nice I want mine to sound that raw
You are very knowledgeable, wonder what kind of info we will get when you rebuild the RX8 or 20b build in the future...
Thank you!
Awesome tutorial 🙌
Thank you Bobby!

What engine? You shouldn't have to pull the motor to set lash on anything

The FSM says every 15k miles they should be checked. I'd check them if I was you. Follow this guide.

Quality seemed right on par as the OEMs. No issues clearancing lash

@@enolamns I have read that on S2ki, it’s hard to understand how a camshaft can cause a whining noise unless it messes the position of the cam gears.
@@micheldellacherie4900 yeah i still have found no clue to why they make this noise.
Love this content👍 keep it up

So do you have to move each cylinder to top dead center when doing each set of valves

Your bike should be adjustable like this. Not sure about the mustang
Just did this to my 2006 S2000. All the exhaust valves were waaayyyyy to tight! Only 48K
A little tight won't hurt anything so long as it's not floating the valve
@@TheSlipAngle they were tighter than .005 (the lowest feeler gauge I had)! That’s pretty bad….
@@spencersgarage Oh oh, yes way too tight then
Loose is better than tight correct?

How 🤔 often does this need to be done?
very tight clearance could be every 10k, usually its 20k
FSM says every 15k miles
You definitely have a broken motor mount. Your engine is leaning to the passenger side bad. DOES ANYONE NOT SEE THIS?!😶
No, the F20C is a tall motor so it has to be tilted a bit for clearance. Google stock engine bays.
You know the F20C is mounted at an angle in the S2000 right? Other manufacturers do this as well like BMW. This is not a Miata
@@TheSlipAngle I heard it was a Miata though, just for men.
no sir
