Hell, this just makes me want to take my stock ND for a spin just because as they said in the vid - it is already a thrill to drive. ...I'm still going to source a cheap 2016 when I'm able to afford it and take it straight to SSSP lol
Having just driven a 400 whp NB Miata myself, I can confirm it is a wildly fun and on-edge experience. Great video, always makes me consider LS swapping my Miata haha
Incredible! A couple of questions. Watched a handful of videos on this car and they are all RF's which I think is not a great look. (I own a "21' ND soft top). Do they build these in soft top versions or is the Targa type structure needed for the extra torque? Also can they add in the safety systems like traction control to keep me alive? (LOL) My heart is still racing after watching you drive. 😅
You gotta give this thing a shot on some Rcomp tires. I like the Maxxis tires RC1’s. I have them on my ls7 FD swap. These cars with traction are unbelievable. Pure analog beast.
Depending on the cam, it's a mid to high 11 second car on those tires, and possibly a high 10 second one with good tires and a good driver. My LS3 NB is 450 wheel and 2600lbs, 11.50's is typical along 126mph on Falcon 660's. The calculators convert that to 130mph with a sea level DA. The average driver will put one of these short wheelbase cars into oncoming traffic in a hurry. Wheel speed traction control is a major game changer. You can do it with haltech, megasquirt and holley ECU's and it takes nothing away from the driving experience. Your nuts to push a 450 whp miata on the street w/o it. Torque mapping and a DBW pedal makes a big difference as well.
It's really not too crazy. If you know your lines and how to rotate a chassis, all more power does is add more options for rotation at higher speeds. Quinn has good feel and knows where to place a chassis so it's really not an issue.
Cars that spin 3rd and 4th aren't really fun. I had a cammed Ls1 Rx7 back in the day that was a great. Really balanced car and could hook if you wanted it to, or spin through 3rd if you wanted it to just based on how aggressive you were with gear changes and that was prob a high 10 sec car on good street tires. I just recently sold a 700whp blower swapped ZL1 1LE and that car was kinda stupid.. it had no grip anywhere. I mean I'd hit it to pass on the highway and if the temps were cooler you'd think the clutch slipped and then the back end would step into the next lane.. It's not about how much power, neither of these cars were crazy fast, its how it makes it and how the chassis handles it. Stock or near stock the Miata chassis doesn't handle a ton of torque really well. Rx7 chassis on the other hand, even my FC was actually a surprisingly good. I race Miatas and have an s2000 so love these cars but at this point would much rather have a K swapped one
Agreed. Not being able to floor it in first, second, or third would be so frustrating. Maybe a de-stroked high revving LS that doesn't make as much power would be a better match for this car.
@VictorPitstop The nd3 has a completely different wiring harness, computers, etc. You could ls swap it but none of the gauges would work. I just bought an nd3 and even simple things like taillight mods are incompatible.
@@braisedtoast9002 This doesn't really matter, all you need is a CAN bus integration between the GM ECU and the Mazda gauges - it's just a translator. For reference, this is what I have with my LS3 NC.
@@illsz Oh I have no doubt it's possible. I'm just saying you'll definitely lose some functionality. This example never got traction control working, for example. The nd3 will be worse.
Fast forward video to 9:30 to start seeing the car actually driven lol….so funny seeing guys feel ls power….try out driving a sorta c5 or c6 with some track mods…you’ll dump all the Miata platforms quickly lol
Crossing double yellow lines, rolling through stops signs in 3rd... these guys just narrating their crimes lol. They haven't even mentioned they are on a closed private road in Mexico.
Great, just watched this and now I have to drive my stock nd to work now, thanks a lot guys

Have a ND now with all the mods needed for backroad bombing but I can’t imagine another 250-300hp and torque
Consider this a modern Shelby Cobra rather than a fast Miata
Ok, hear me out. Please do a series where Quinn rides shot gun in crazy cars.

with the 1.8? that’s crazy
@daneharrison3426 yessir. Built engine mazdaspeed miata, freakin rowdy
You two giggling school boys made me laugh! I see a new project coming!

I think I would want the roll structure there with a car this light and powerful
Looking at the shop's site they will do the convertible or the RF
The targa part of the RF is non-structural. You need an aftermarket rollbar for any real roll protection.
The RF is beautiful how dare you 😢
They can do soft tops. The extra rigidity from the RF top is negligible, it's not really going to make much of a difference.

This thing is sick
quinn look so sketched out riding passenger. never seen him look that scared before! 😂
that's awesome.
Needs a Micky Thompson ET street R's. Then traction shouldn't be a issue they're super impressive
Ease into EVERYTHING❤😂
Wide body kit with a new beefy square set up! You could possibly send it fully in 2nd maybe and have better control

@@thelifenonadic Quinn is not an average driver. I literally built one of these and have driven it daily for years.
sick i have a 17 rf gt 6SPD in love this mod how much does this cost?
man, if just there was a way to get this certified and insured in europe... ^^
Hrmmm would this by any chance be road legal in Australia after importing it back..

If you're a rowdy bastard cars that spin 3rd and 4th (uphill, really not a huge deal) are hilarious fun.

lol some one got a new hat.
The stock ND horn sucks. This ND is a beast!
I wish this company could do this with the nd3.
Why couldn’t they?
@VictorPitstop The nd3 has a completely different wiring harness, computers, etc. You could ls swap it but none of the gauges would work. I just bought an nd3 and even simple things like taillight mods are incompatible.
If you’re ripping everything out of the car that makes the iterations of the car different, why does it matter if it’s only ND1 he does it with?

Pretty cool, but a c5/c6 vette is a better buy vs spending $80k + donor car.
enguagment
Unless you have an extra money laying around, it’s a pointless to swap
