    Very interesting video. Like many other comments, I cannot understand why manufacturers are making things so complicated for routine servicing. Most car owners are totally oblivious to what is under the bonnet, until there is a loud bang one day if they are that unfortunate! Looking forward to more videos.

    Great video Josh.. I got out of the motor trade before rubber timing belts arrived. Cars I worked on always had chains which hardly ever needed attention except when you could hear them rattling or on an engine rebuild. I realise things move on in engine and gearbox design but when you see manufacturers going back to steel timing chains it makes you wonder whether belts were introduced as a cost cutting exercise that didn't live up to expectations, but here we are now running them in oil !

    Thanks for this. My Custom had them replaced as part of a recall at 65k but its now done 85k and I just dont trust these engines or gearbox. It had a hard life before I got it and the gear selection is notchy as heck. I keep meaning to swing by your place so that you can check it over but I've not been over your way for at least a year. I should be around in a month-ish so hopefully I'll manage to get it booked in.

    Even a 10 year old would see this was a bad idea. Rubber in oil = not good. Manufacturers might have their minds sharpened if cars had a mandatory 10 year/100K mile warranty. I have no problem with innovation but at least make it easy and cheap to replace. Then If the customer feels he doesn’t need to follow the service schedule then tough on them. This 3 year new car replacement cycle is doing the environment and the buying public no good at all. But that doesn’t fill the coffers of the manufacturers does it😠Onwards and upwards with the channel chaps👍

      Don't disagree with you, but bear in mind the number of oil seals an engine has in it which are of course essentially the same thing. Makes me wonder why the belts are breaking up so much - is it just the load they're under?

    Just did this job with orginal ford parts. After a weekend of driving the belt lost its tension and the engine is wrecked. I just cant understand what really happend. Im 100 % sure i tightened the tensioner bolt. Turned the engine around several times and it all looked tight and good. The car started without any strange noises or anything and ran fine for many miles during the weekend. Well, after about 1000 timing belt replacements on cars, it was my turn ....

    What torque did you tighten the crank bolt
    Probably the most important part of this job
    F/T or a specific torque

    I have a Ford tourneo Custom 2017 Two litre diesel automatic front wheel drive, how much will u charge to change the wet timing belt, oil pump belt and what other parts you will change in this process ie oil sump, timing belt cover, timing belt tensioner etc. Will you be using all original Ford parts? Please quote me with parts and labour, and does this work have any warranty?

    You would think they would come up with a new cam belt material that was not degraded by oil

  • @errgh1257

    Took on a load of Transit's at work and the first oil change isn't due for 24'800 miles, seems absolutely mad. Might be my imagination but the vans that have done over 20K on no oil change feel noticeably sluggish compared to one that's only done 9K.

    • @ryanh3285
      @ryanh3285 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No that is mad on a diesel tests show the optimum time is between 8 and 10 thousand miles for oil changes .but that will be there problem.

    I done one of these and a Ford fiesta eco boost in the same week. Whoever thought a normal METAL! chain can't last a cars life time in the design of the vehicle is the biggest idiot going.
    How am I meant to explain to a customer that your 2020-2024 car has done 30,000 miles it needs a timing belt!

  • @petrolhead28
    @petrolhead28 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    20k miles is ford setting them up to fail for a future sale. 8 to 10 k is mad for a working vehicle.

  • @roberttaylor465
    @roberttaylor465 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Extended service schedule, wrong oil, poor mechanical sympathy, poor maintenance, all adds to accelerated degradation. Our service department must be changing 3 engines a week under warranty, not sure how long ford can continue with such expenditure.

  • @billyc5914
    @billyc5914 หลายเดือนก่อน

    These manufacturers r looking at maintenance money for their dealers. Being a retired mechanic i would never buy a vehicle with a wet belt. Dry belt is a better set up in my opinion.
