This is only the third of your videos I've seen and I'm very impressed. You could have easily edited out your mistake, but chose to leave it in showing us your good character. It earned you a like and a sub. Way back in the 1970's I was a young truck mechanic in the army, stationed in Belfast during the Troubles. One day I was working on a Bedford RL 4 tonner, a cab over with a 5L petrol engine. While revving the guts out of it, I forgot I'd loosened the distributor and my big old army boot nudged it resulting in a huge backfire which split open the exhaust silencer. With smoke everywhere and the sound still echoing, people came rushing into the workshop thinking a bomb had gone off. I climbed out of the cab and blew out a mouthful of exhaust smoke. The names I was called still make me blush after all these years.
The fact that you are making the video as you carry out the work would be enough to make anyone forget a simple thing like that. Your a great guy, and very knowledgeable at what you do! ❤ The Channel 👍
I had swapped out a driveshaft on my Saab 900 Turbo, then that evening made the journey from Derby to Suffolk... but I had forgotten to tighten the wheel nuts. I'd thrown all my tools in my garage too, such was my haste to visit the g/f. A bit of clonking down the M1 and I realised what i'd forgotten to do; they were only finger tight. I pulled into Leicester Forest East services and waited for another car to pull in and then ask if I could use their wheel brace.
You silly bunt. lol My worst one was working on a triumph dolomite you might not know what that is lol . dropping a washer down the distributor shaft to bottom of engine where rotary system and oil filter pickup pump is. Having to strip the sump down again to get to it 😢 I always now have a magnet around me when working on cars 😅 Keep up the good work it's hard to find a decent and honest mechanic 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

My biggest most embarrassing mistake: I was replacing the timing chain on my girlfriend's 2013 Vauxhall corsa 1.2 ecoflex. I stripped everything down very meticulously. It then started pouring down with rain and so I rushed putting the timing cover gasket on which sits behind the timing guides and everything. Rebuilt it all the next day and went to start it. Oil everywhere. Turns out the parts department had provided the wrong gasket and the oil gallery was about 10mm across on this gasket so it didnt seal. No damage to the engine but I had to strip everything as its literally the last part you take off🤦🤦🤦 Atleast it's something to learn and laugh about 🤦😝 Lesson learnt, do not rush a parts check!!!!

Great vlog as always, I have a transit connect and use blue print parts which I find very good quality and I also make sure the fuel filter is renewed every year after the housing cleaned out and a small amount of injector cleaner with diesel put in to try to avoid any air, kind regards to you and everyone out there, Mark from Billericay 😃👍
With regards to fuel filters on ford's, I got told by a specialist diesel pump and injector testing shop, to only use genuine filter as they're they only ons that filter down to a certain micron level, which in turn protect the pump from swarf from injector breakdown. Just a thought.
I know I have forgotten to connect/ tighten something in past. It is easy to do when you have to stop for any reason, like the rain and when you continue you think you tightened before moving on to the next step. But at least you caught it before cranking fuel everywhere. nice one !
Love the content 👊🏽 Never a boring moment with your Vids 💯 2017 Merc sprinter, for a full service, drained oil removed all filters, had the fuel filter out aswell (usually clamp the pipes with the plastic pliers, this time I didn't) Decided I wanted to check the lights all round, turned the ignition on, walked around the van and came back to a pool of diesel 😂😂😂
Back in the 70s on a Rover 2000 I put the rear pads in round the wrong way. Metal to metal 😮 To be fair they were inboard and tricky to get to. Needless to say I didn’t do it again.
minor stuff in comparison, but I removed the glove compartment to replace defective airco fan blower resistor in my Polo, got the new part in (awkward position with near 0 space), all sound deadening foam back in position, put everything together but realised I forgot the hose which puts cold air into the glove compartment (to cool cans of drink in there), so whole glovebox has to be hauled out again and the hose refitted..
The stupidest job me and my brother did was a long time ago, neither of us are car mechanics but a few years later we became printing machines engineers and we built, repaired and installed screen printing machines. This might explain how long ago it was. But in 1987 we bought a very cheap mk3 ford escort van, it was cheap because it was from a friend and it had a few rust spots, this was our mistake, back then under seal was a big player to protect seals from rust. We cut out a few bits then packed with a ton of aluminium mesh to fill the space but then used the tiniest rivets to keep the plate (coke tins) flat then under sealed the seals and pretty much every where just to protect what was looking like it had lost paint, we also removed the mats as they were damp and hammerited the floor pans which were in good condition so we just painted them and popped out a couple of the drain plugs. Everything looked smart considering the price we paid and the time and cost of materials. We took through a mot and my brother kind of gave me a look at the tester, I didn’t get it but he had a magnet. He of course found the coke tins through tapping on the seals and when he heard different sounds he used the magnet. He looked at my brother who was older and said you should have used less filling and a steel can to patch as it was a good job except for the aluminium cans. He offered us a really good price to buy the van so we walked away with a profit of £250. So a big lesson learnt. For years after I see a van with a mk4 front end with spoilers and a wicked paint job with the garage’s name that was sign written with style. I see the van for about 6 years still with the reg plate on that we started with. So he either swopped the plate or did a ringer or something because the reg only had 5 digits and maybe it was a good plate for him. We learnt how to weld soon after so we never had that problem again. Lol😊
Did an oil change on my focus recently, forgot to connect the MAFS to the air box, when I started it, it caused a check engine light to come up. Took a split second to realise what caused it. It's the simple thing's we often miss.
for combustion you need air fuel spark compression and the timing to be correct I knew straight away long crank meant it's not getting fuel pressure but of course with a diesel you don't need spark for combustion another great video Michael ❤
I fitted a cylinder head to a 8v K series (years ago obviously)with only one dowel in the deck. I couldn't understand why it was taking so much coolant, until I pulled the dipstick and found where it was going.
I’m not a mechanic but I used to be a motorcycle courier, one day I got a job going from London to Leeds and I got to pickup address and got distracted by someone I hadn’t seen for a long time and chatted for a bit …… anyway I just got on the bike and went without the envelope ! I got to a services in South Yorkshire and had over 20 missed calls from the office as I had forgotten, so I rode over 300 miles and got nothing for it. Very annoying !
Rushing to fix a handbrake cable on a Corsa C before work. Didn't tighten the hub nut. Wheel come off about a minute after I left work to come home. Dragged it on 3 wheels to a parking space, threw the wheel in the boot and got a lift home. Luckily bought a used hub for £10 out of a breakers and threw it on, no major damage to anything bar my pride 😂
@@themarvelousvlog fortunately it happened at about 20mph the wheel over took me bouncing away till it hit a pole 😂 scariest bit was being a drum hub the brakes did naff all. Luckily it literally ground to halt and the parking space was maybe 15 feet away 😅
Nice work mate. My biggest mistake was lowering the car after replacing shocks but not removing my trolley jack. Go to test drive it and almost run over my jack.
My biggest mistake was NOT lowering the jack and going for a drive 😂. Luckily the car did not sustain any damage as the car was higher than the jack when it’s on its side 🤣
Mine was leaving that ratchet on the main crank bolt of a ford, started the engine and it undone the bolt, was only in for an ancillary belt and I still managed to write it off, I gave that customer a new car hes been very loyal since, I think hes hoping for another new car 😂
I have made a few errors in my life, once forgot to tight the tension after fit new timing belt wrecked my Punto JTD engine put a new spring coil on strut then released coil compression clamps and forgot to include a bump stop rubber in! I had to do it again. Everyone makes errors nothing to worry about.
My biggest mistake. I was 15yo and rebuilding my first motorcycle and after I had the engine back together and in the bike I used my hand on the Kickstarter and I heard tick tick tick tick. I stopped and thought and yes I put the piston 180 out and the valve was touching the piston. Also looking back I should have replaced the valve but I was young and impatient. I pulled it apart again and turned the piston.
Just remembered this one. Discovery 300tdi cam belt snapped. Head off etc, set timing and then belt etc. Went to start and it was firing out the exhaust. There is a difference between TDC compression stroke and exhaust. Doh.
Biggest mistake was in old job was in work customer comes in on busy day (rental place) oil light on - put 1L of oil in. What he didn’t tell me was he’d just done that twice (and overfilled it). The 1L tipped it over the edge and nearly brand new Audi a3 s line tfsi went boom duh duh duh😅to be fair this was before I ever started working on cars seriously and not just my own, and think with the customer having limited English could have “happened to anyone”😂😂
That was an easy mistake to make. Another way of looking at it is that it was not a bad idea to use fuel pressure to push any dirt or contamination out of the connection ensuring a proper seal. Also, if you tighten the rail connection and leave the injector slightly loosened then fuel pressure will force air and any dirt out that will mean the only air will be at the injector itself making the first start easier.
That would’ve been the excuse of the century! I love the way you think haha! No matter, what you said is very very true- I only did it the long way haha! Thanks for watching 💪🏽 😁
The biggest mistake I have done was to strip the trend on one of the bolt holes on my old Datsun cherry 120A F 11 I had no tape set to tape it so I left the washer off luckily it went in the clutch on the car was very easy to change because it came out like a cartilage after removing a plate on the bell housing and taking the input shaft out trough a hole in the wing luckily the car worked ok when I put it back together I don’t work on my cars now I only do little jobs on them I level it to the garage to do it now not me this time my nephew who is an HGV machine he had a Mazda 6 with a slipping clutch after dropping the subframe he was not shaw witch way the friction plate faced of course he put it in the wrong way around so after doing the job all over again it was it took him most of the day doing on my brothers driveway
had the injectors out one of these and didnt push one of the return pipes on properly went out as a spare van and the worker woke up to a puddle of fuel on his drive and trailing up his road 🫢🤣
Every year, our new apprentice is met with a runaway diesel van. I set up the condition intentionally. Can you feel the terror? 3 months into your apprenticeship and they’re left to “man the fort” as we all go to lunch? “Take the transit in and replace the front brakes” As soon as they turn that key….. 😉😂 you’re welcome boys hahaha x
Are the old injectors codes stored in to the car already I have changed mine and need to code new ones. Do I need to know where old ones where so can program new ones. Ass I don't know where old ones where
I’ve given it to my brother now. I prefer the features of the Launch Euro Tab 3. No diagnostic tool is perfect but I think the Tab 3 has got more than the Autel MS919
Too much leak means that they will struggle to build pressure, which means the car will not start straight away. As you can see, one of the injectors didn’t even fill the pipes and leak in to the bottle, which means that one was in better condition than the others. Just wanna point out as well, the pipes were long so to fill the pipes up and drip in to the bottle in the span of 30s or less, is quite a lot of back leak… So yes, 3 injectors needed to be replaced but I replaced all of them for good practice
There is not much point measuring the fuel pressure when the engine is running, if the fuel pump is mechanical, for this fault. The reason is the fuel pump speed is a lot less when cranking, the ecu wont fire the injectors if the fuel presser is low because the fuel will not be able to overcome the compression in the cylinders. What things could contribute to a low fuel pressure when cranking? Obviously go through the service items, confirm the pressure sensors are providing accurate data, check starter motor efficiency, check battery efficiency. If the crank speed (fuel pump speed) is low the fuel pressure will be low when the engine is running the fuel pump is at full speed and delivering good pressure.

Thank for reminding me that i still need to change my fuel filter on my car. The worst and annoying mistake i done was with my insignia when i had to do the cylinder head i took the injectors off, changed the head gasket, put everything together, then found out i forgot to put the injector seal rings on so had to remove the injectors again and at the same time forgot to connect a connector to the throttle sensor i think it was. @themarvelousvlog I keep a work diary, spreadsheet in the back, also I make a note in the diary, ideal when you do your tax return, might help. Enjoying your videos. 👍
Ive done a full head gasket and never changed the valve seals, managed to put new seals in by bringing 2 cylinders at a time (1 and 4 then 2 and 3) to TDC and home made a valve spring compressor. What a pain in the ar*e that was but easier then strip the head off again. Now stop crying about forgetting to tighten the fuel lines up 🤣🤣🤣

No matter, what you said is very very true- I only did it the long way haha!
Thanks for watching 💪🏽 😁
Very skilled and thorough work !!
Thank you!
glad i wasn't picking up the bill for the injectors :)
Company bill so should be fine 😂
I once did an oil change and forgot to put the sump plug back in.🙈
Was it on a customer’s drive? I’ve done that on a customer new drive before 🤣
@@themarvelousvlog no my own car.👍
Was that Cam belt kit I seen back van to did you have to do that on the van ?
That was for another job. It was for a 2.0 Diesel Ford
Well done ,good video
Thank you’
will the dpf be blocked with all the excess fuel
What scanner and software do you use ?
We use our trusty Launch UK Euro Tab 3
It is called “Human Error “ we are not machines - we are imperfect beings - therefore we must accept that “sometimes” mistakes will be made 🙂.
Did timing belt on a peugeot 2008 couldnt figure out why it wasnt starting hadnt plugged the crank sensor back in it happens
Bet there was bit of brown marks on your boxers that day? 😂
Good video , where are you based
Based in Sussex mate
had the injectors out one of these and didnt push one of the return pipes on properly went out as a spare van and the worker woke up to a puddle of fuel on his drive and trailing up his road 🫢🤣
That fuel gauge must’ve visibly moving 😂
The service interval for the timing belt, tensioner and idlers has been reduced to six years or 160,000km (100,000 miles)
Even those numbers are too long in my opinion…
70k Max is as far as we leave them absolute dog 💩 design.
Every year, our new apprentice is met with a runaway diesel van. I set up the condition intentionally.
Can you feel the terror? 3 months into your apprenticeship and they’re left to “man the fort” as we all go to lunch?
“Take the transit in and replace the front brakes”
As soon as they turn that key…..
😉😂 you’re welcome boys hahaha x
Are the old injectors codes stored in to the car already I have changed mine and need to code new ones. Do I need to know where old ones where so can program new ones. Ass I don't know where old ones where
Hi there do you travel to do work on vans
Hi,
Yes we do! If you want to get booked in please contact us. All our details you’ll find in the description of this video.
Thank you!
Injectors that can move its heaven.
Or a VAG double wishbone bolt 😭
Don't use the starter, so long it damages the starter
I think that is a diesel engine you can do a test about the glow plugs
What happened to your Autel ? Why launch now ?
I’ve given it to my brother now. I prefer the features of the Launch Euro Tab 3. No diagnostic tool is perfect but I think the Tab 3 has got more than the Autel MS919
@@themarvelousvlog I see but Autel has a built in scope too which is great specially for when working mobile.
That should be your new van
EcoBoom?
Really?
I agree + more reliable than what I’ve got now I think 😂
Ecoblue engines are good when serviced every 8k and belt replaced every 50k. I do like it 👀
hi how much you charge for gearbox flush on a dsg thanks
Hello!
Which DSG please?
@@themarvelousvlog skoda octavia vrs 2016
were you based thanks
Saying 5 months ago isn't that long ago for a service? That just depends on mileage. A transit could have done 20k miles in that time.
Injectors are designed to leak off so im not sure how you came to conclusion all injectors needed replacing because they "leaked"?
Too much leak means that they will struggle to build pressure, which means the car will not start straight away.
As you can see, one of the injectors didn’t even fill the pipes and leak in to the bottle, which means that one was in better condition than the others.
Just wanna point out as well, the pipes were long so to fill the pipes up and drip in to the bottle in the span of 30s or less, is quite a lot of back leak…
So yes, 3 injectors needed to be replaced but I replaced all of them for good practice
If the crank speed (fuel pump speed) is low the fuel pressure will be low when the engine is running the fuel pump is at full speed and delivering good pressure.
well you need them to be slack to bleed them up ...but then need to access to tighten, doh , haha
Scanner ?
That’s the Euro Tab 3

First mistake this guy makes , is to place his diagnostic tool on the steering wheel airbag.
Instant fail from my training 🤦♀️
Explain please?
@@themarvelousvlog anomaly. Due to a rare firmware bug or data corruption, the tool erroneously sends a command to the airbag control module (ACM). This command inadvertently activates the airbag system by triggering the inflator deployment sequence.anomaly. This command inadvertently activates the airbag system by triggering the inflator deployment sequence.
I was trained as a master technician for Ford motor company.
Their policy was to teach everybody using a scan tool for it never to be placed on the steering wheel for the reason listed above.
I have never known for it to be an issue.
We were never allowed to place the tool on any of the car’s paint work either, so there was no chance of paint damage
You are welcome
Thank for reminding me that i still need to change my fuel filter on my car. The worst and annoying mistake i done was with my insignia when i had to do the cylinder head i took the injectors off, changed the head gasket, put everything together, then found out i forgot to put the injector seal rings on so had to remove the injectors again and at the same time forgot to connect a connector to the throttle sensor i think it was. I dont remember the code i got but i almost ended up buying new sensors lol.
I wont make that mistake again.
You learn as you go. That’s the beauty of it. Some expensive. Some cheap. 😂
@@themarvelousvlog lol your not wrong there. I now own a Saab so not that cheap. With some parts i think a Porsche is cheaper
tighten up a rear hub nut on a vw transporter one day thinking Christ this guns struggling brake flexi hose was jammed between drive shaft and the hub was not a good day 😂😂😂
We all make mistakes mate
where is his 240i build
It is done. I am still, believe it or not, putting the content up together… it’s a sad one :(
ah ye😎😎
hate second guessing my work , have i, haven't i, best to take several snaps of job
Best to look at it in different angles and test all possibilities
Don’t you guys have anything for rain like Cazeboo
We do but not in the van. Bulky to be carrying it all the time
@@themarvelousvlog keep it up good working and honest work , you guys the best
Why not prime the vehicle always turn the key igniton on and off before starting then hold foot on accelerator for 2 minutes your done
I did do that mate… unfortunately because of the leaking injectors, it will be a lot harder to prime it, as you’d probably know…
BluePrint "Mechanique"
was the new injectors expensive?
This video was filmed AAAGGEESSS ago! I can’t even remember now 😅
@themarvelousvlog I keep a work diary, spreadsheet in the back, also I make a note in the diary, ideal when you do your tax return, might help. Enjoying your videos. 👍
Oh mine is recorded but on top of my head, I can’t remember
Jacking up a car on gravel, nearly turned into a pizza.
Life insurance is a must if you’re handling mechanical stuff! Take care out there 😭
I’m not 100% you fixed it, there only looked to be about 5ml out of each injector which didn’t look excessive
Ive done a full head gasket and never changed the valve seals, managed to put new seals in by bringing 2 cylinders at a time (1 and 4 then 2 and 3) to TDC and home made a valve spring compressor. What a pain in the ar*e that was but easier then strip the head off again. Now stop crying about forgetting to tighten the fuel lines up 🤣🤣🤣
Now that’s a good one 😂😂😂
almost another great job, don't forget to tighten the nuts ya plonker.....
