Ingenium Checks
มุมมอง 8K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
We show you what checks we do before commencing a chain or a big repair on the Ingenium based engine. We have caught a few out now that simply weren't worth doing a chain on as the engine was nearly shot anyway. None of this is in the official Land Rover process before commencing a chain repair.

Thanks for all these videos. I was just about to trade my 2018 VW Passat (great car, not one thing has went wrong) for a 2020 Jag XE 2.0 diesel. These videos have helped put me right, what an absolute dogshit brand.

JLR charging to use their scan tool software. What a bloody cheek. The crap they are producing , they should release the software for nothing. Imagine owning anything from JLR. That company is going down hill fast.

JR Vehicle Services, if you could improve some parts on these engines, what would you do? What would you make "more robust" i.e., replace with stronger steel, better aluminium alloy, replace plastic with metal or ceramic etc? Do you have some ideas how would you go about it?

That engine layout, surrounded by pipes and harnesses, makes it extremely difficult to do any maintenance with engine in place. Ridiculous! Same bullshit with Izuzu power units. Putting the timing chain at the back is stupidity incarnate. I think the oil pump drive is poor engineering as well. It seems that LR hasn't learnt anything from the crap engineered Ford engines it used to use.

How do these vacuum type engine mounts work? I've got an older Honda Accord and the vacuum line runs from the front engine mount to the cylinder head. There is also a solenoid involved. When the engine is at low RPM does the vacuum pressure get higher reducing lower frequency vibrations?

I have a 2013 Audi S5 with the TFSI 3.0l, on every start up when cold it sounds like the chain is rattling, im assuming this is a good point to replace the chain then huh? 146,000 miles on it. No idea on the maintenance because i bought it at auction. Never did one of these. Rattle goes away on warm start up

  • @shieldaigbencher

High mileage ones should be better because if you get it properly hot the diesel in the fuel should burn off and maintain decent oil quality. Low mileage ones the don’t get hot are problematic. I sold my Disco Sport with this engine out of pure fear, and after I saw an Evoque literally explode on the M1.

Late to the party, but only just discovered your channel. What a find, a garage staffed by people with honesty and integrity. How very refreshing. I reference the engine block with the imperfection, that leaks oil, that you have found a fix for. If that doesn't work have a specialist welder fill the gap/hole, whatever. It doesn't need to be perfect (although it very well may be) as you can file the excess down.

Good series. I bought a Petrol Discovery Sport three-years ago because we do modest annnual mileage & have been very pleased with it to date. They are much rarer than their diesel siblings. Previously we had had a Discovery 3 and then a 4. The latter was a lovely car albeit I was always worried about suffering a crankshaft failure. The car was low mileage and maintained by a non-franchise specialist. I was advised that oil changes more frequently than recommended by JLR was prudent but that if you have a car where the crankshaft is going to fail there is little or nothing more you can do to mitigate the potential problem.

1:58 UK manufacturing plant is just north of Wolverhampton. There was going to be a sister plant in India to make engines for the global market but instead Tata & JLR decided that it would be cheaper to increase capacity at Wolverhampton, so no Ingenium engines were made in India.

Rattle on start up and after servicing is often horrible 10,000km or 6 month servicing is a must Bring back the ratchet type tensioner with alloy guides would be 1/2 way there All in their quest to ‘save’ costs and extend service schedules.

Enjoy your videos, I have a 2016 Diesel Evoque 77K and it’s been great. Problems I’ve had, two door actuators, rear camera water ingress and heat shield on dpf needed a tack weld to stop it rattling. I have a commute of 30 miles but fortunately most of it is dual carriageway. It tows a caravan so gets good long runs too. I’m in Cheshire and it’s looked after by a JLR indie. It’s due routine service soon and will discuss timing chain replacement. I had auto trans fluid changed at 50k and had Haldex serviced too.

Great Video mate, As a new Ingenium engine owner its eye opening. Thankfully I'm able to do the Oil Changes myself between service intervals fairly easily so that and longer runs at weekends should help! Quick question, My thermostat seems to have packed up - struggles to get above quarter way on Dual carriageways/M5. Recently I'm also getting the code P0401-00, Are these related due to not being able to complete the EGR clean cycle do you think? No Soot in exhaust... :)

Hi! Do you guys have a way to send you money as a a thanks? This is all very useful information to me! To be frank, here in California, I just don’t trust the dealer. And there’s very few Jaguar shops around. Plus I like working on things. So I’ve decided to take care of my whip, with all the pain that brings! So, I have a question. If I have to change the engine brackets on an AWD XE, and I’m going to do the timing chain as well, do you recommend taking off the engine as well? I broke the brackets while changing out the front driver side wheel hub (Jaguar manual says to leave the hub bolted on while removing the halfshaft, and I think I was pushing the differential up against the suspension and that broke the brackets.) Thanks for any help!
