Hey Paul, weird request but when you're showing the smart phone mirroring and connectivity, can you please scroll over to the farthest left screen when iPhone mirroring? This is the screen that shows you a map, your directions, and your media. That screen's usability is contingent on the resolution of the display -- something that manufacturers never mention in the specs. Low resolution / cheap displays tend to squash everything in and can be annoying to use, while a high resolution display shows off more info and is easier to read. Would be good to see it when you're showing off phone mirroring. Thank you for these reviews!
I have watched quite a few video reviews on this vehicle, that I was hoping to purchase. But when I went to the dealer/showroom and sat in it, and viewed it, it is really VERY small! In full disclosure, I am 6'2" (around 188cm). I went to sit in the drivers seat, And when I did, I went to adjust the leg room only to discover it was already in its rearmost position! :( And that would be uncomfortable. Then I went to see how much space would the back passenger have in that position, and guess what? Both seats were nearly touching! Meaning that no one would ever be able to sit behind me! The rear, even with seats down is VERY limited, and not flat or even nearly flat (a modern standard). In the end, this vehicle has a very limited potential audience. This vehicle is only for folks of short/small physical stature, for 1 or 2 person household, for commuting to work, and for those who will never have to carry adults in the back seat. Want to go with your girlfriend/wife to pick up her (small) parents at the airport? You"ll have to rent a car, unless they don't mind uncomfortably contorting themselves WHILE having luggage on their laps! None of the many reviews I watched on this vehicle noted this issue which was so obvious. :(
Well, the queue is now minimum 18 months, I'm close on 6' and have no issues with leg room. The floor is not flat on the Hybrid, yes. But way big enough to fit suitcases. How tall are you? I'm cramped in my Lexus IS350 to give you a comparison.
Looking forward to you and the team doing a soft road small size group segment comparison to sort out the useful from the useless. Or maybe a hybrid challenge to see which will empty their half tank faster on a road trip where petrol stations are quite far apart.
i have a corolla cross with 2.0 engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 47 MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating except merging and hyper mill when ever possible. so l smile when i see the gas pump, and its a different kind of fun to squeeze for MPG.
Toyota did a really good job filling the gap between Corolla and Rav 4. The size and price point is very attractive to buyers who want a fuel efficient compact SUV. If you can’t wait 12+ month for Rav 4 and prefer something smaller this is perfect.
Good review. Thanks. With the rear boot you can set it to 5 different positions. You get an all important spare tyre with a two wheel drive. I have ordered an Atmos, Khaki Green. The seconds to reach 100 k/hr etc doesn't bother me. Easy to get into and out of it for when I get older. The moon roof is OK but I would prefer it without. I don't need it and will keep it closed. I've had melanoma years ago. I am a senior. :-). I get 4.7 L/100k. Looking forward to doing some travel in it. Ordered mine almost 12 months ago. I took delivery of mine this week. Its almost exactly the same as the one in your video. But I definitely won't be hooning. The salesman told me if I ordered it now, I would be waiting 18 months for it. Your review played a significant part of my decision to buy it. Thanks.
Hi Ron, Ive ordered the same, we own a Rav 4 Hybrid and before that the Corrolla Hybrid, compared to other makes, Toyota leads in the hybrid world. So loved the test drive as expected. Shame I have to be patient for 12mths though.☹️
The front wheel drive Corolla Cross has a spare tyre. In regards to price all cars are expensive now besides cheap Chinese cars. This car is really no more expensive than comparable cars from other brands.
@@pummyyI need one recently. 10pm. My current car also hasn't a spare. It has a compressor and a small bottle of goo and I have no idea what to do with that.
Off road test results should be included in the review. The whole point of an SUV is that it has light off road capability and this assessment should be included.
Love the car, very disappointed with the colour range in Australia, other countries had a much bigger choice. Had to go with frosted white. Wanted a blue or graphite.
Disappointed the AWD version doesn't have a spare tyre, not even a space saver. In our market with large distances between population centres a can of gloop doesn't work if any side wall damage has occurred.
With 390l the pram might take up as much space as the red luggage bag for the AWD if not slightly more. You definitely need to bring your pram to check as all prams are different. On a different channel they did the pram test and it was a good fit, but that was for FWD not AWD.
For that price range one would be crazy not to spend just a little bit extra and go for the more spacious, powerful and extra feature laden RAV4 hybrid with very little difference in fuel economy between the two. Only reason I could see someone spending $50K plus on a Corolla cross Atmos is the extremely long current wait time on a RAV4 hybrid, otherwise if the RAV was more readily available, I could see the Atmos sitting in car yards with little interst from buyers.
I don't know about Aus, but in NZ there is no hybrid Sportage yet, you'd have to go for the smaller Niro, which at equivalent spec is more expensive than the Corolla Cross.
I looked at the GXL version today. I don't like the step in the boot when the seats are folded down. Also this model shown has a 'tyre repair kit" instead of a spare. This is the most ridiculous concept in a country as big as Australia. A spare is needed, even the thin ones. So my choice is now between the Yaris Cross - mostly flat when seats are folded down and a spare with the GLX or the Rav 4, whose AWD includes a spare tyre. Thanks for the review of the top of the range model!
Don't bother rushing out to buy this car. I spoke to major Toyota dealer in Melbourne last week (early Nov 2022). This model, Corolla-Cross Atmos, AWD/4WD, hybrid, has an 18-months-long waiting list. And this is just a gross approximation, could be longer or shorter, nobody has a clue. The price (about $55-grand, drive-away), therefore, is also unknown and is sure to go up during this long wait time. So the purchase contract is just giving you the right to jump on the indefinite waiting list, nothing more, for about $1000 refundable deposit. I might add this is just like RAV4 hybrid and most other Toyota hybrid passenger cars and SUV/CUV cars.
Fantastic Review, Paul, You should talk about Toyota Connect service apps, I heard that you can remotely turn on the car from the apps. Nice technology for Toyota.
Hi, thanks for the review. I have a few questions for you. Did you have the driver seat all the way back? My hubby is 6’8”.do you think he would have enough leg and head room? You look to be fairly tall and had room. Thanks.
I want to clarify the term eCVT. It appears that most of the car reviewers in Australia get it wrong. The basic mechanisms of eCVT and CVT are completely dissimilar. eCVTs, such as those found on the Toyota RAV4, are significantly different from belt- and chain-driven continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) eCVT is a different, more generic name for the hybrid powertrain installed in all pure Toyota hybrid vehicles. Toyota calls it "Hybrid Synergy Drive". It is made up from an internal combustion engine, two electric motors/generators and a pretty simple planetary gearset, called the "Power Split Device". This transmission is referred to as "electric CVT" or "eCVT", because it behaves very much like a standard CVT, although it works based on an entirely different principle - and avoids about all of the disadvantages of a conventional CVT.
@@CarExpertAus the droning noise is more due to the Atkinson cycle engine which has high thermo efficiency than conventional engines and it is most efficient when it is in the higher rev range. When the petrol engine is engaged, the planetary gear system will choose the most efficient gear band, i.e. the higher rev range (therefore noisy). This is not so much about the word CVT as the eCVT has nothing to do with the CVT except for the misleading name
@@xukegenius2agree the noise is more than likely to be caused by the engine which is Atkinson cycle and it needs to be in high rev band to be most fuel efficient level😂
Great review! Hoping you'll do one as well for the newly released 2023 standard Corolla as well considering your high praise last time you reviewed one!
I cancelled my RAV XSE order once Corolla Cross was released. Corolla Cross sizing is better for tight city parking spaces I need to deal with. I cannot afford a high quality EV so a quality hybrid engine 2.0 is a good option for now. Considering it’s going to cost $50K I do worry about it’s future value post 2030 when there are a lot more EVs on Australian roads. I agonise over whether to stick with my 2016 Mazda 3 and drive for another 10 years. It’s so hard to know what ICE used car market is going to look like in 10 years.
Buy a car to drive for transport and enjoyment and move on with life.. a car isnt an investment its a depreciating asset so unless you are changing cars because you've got the means to do so or your Mazda isnt meeting your needs than don't do it. Mazda make fantastic cars and the only reason I would change now is if you need something higher up or not so low to the ground. My good friend has a Mazda3 and its a wonderful car to sit in and so comfortable.. I just personally find it too low which is the case for the BMW sedan I have.. I like SUVs. You don't buy a car to then worry what will it be worth in ten years, it will be worth little either way. Especially if you paid 27-40k for a mazda3....I have a few cars... & my 2021 BMW 330i at $97,000 I guarantee with less than 30,000km on it is probably worth around $65,000 now a year and a quarter old. So its lost the entire cost of a 3. I knew that when I bought it... the same goes for my GLC300 4matic a $115,000 car, is probably worth $85,000 now and just hit 31,000km travelled and is almost 3 years old I believe.. You've just got to get a car that meets your lifestyle needs, that is comfortable and ticks the boxes for your budget and hope you make the right decision and not worry about the market in the future. Especially since some car manufacturers have said by 2024/2026 they wont produce ICE cars.. thats great but we are not ready for that in Australia... our stubborn government has done nothing to aid in putting in chargers or infrastructure... stuff that existed when I visited Europe almost 10 years ago. So if you want to move towards that revolution I agree... a hybrid definitely makes sense. Only you can figure out the rest. but don't let thinking about future deter you because even if our government starts now.. we are nowhere close to let go of petrol powered vehicles because we simply wouldn't be able to get around at this point.

At $55K d/away, it just feel way too expensive!!!
$15k too expensive. If not more.
With incandescent globes on the back 🤦♂
Hello, i have a video idea which is to do an ADAS mega test, so you get cars from each brand and see how well the lane centering works, what happens if you dont put your hands on the wheel and what happens if you unbuckle your seatbelt and maybe some other tests to compare them even further.
People whinge about the price of this, yet wouldnt say a word about the buying a base BMW or Audi for the same price but with less features and tech.
I searched for this car on ur channel yesterday and u dropped it today 😂😂
Mind reader!
Your reviews are always so detailed and thorough!!! and that reverse test....It takes me back!!!
Thanks for the great review in detail mate! Keep up the good work. As for the noise while driving, I am very positive of you try it in a better road ground, it will be more quite and smooth.
Love this. This is exactly what I've been waiting for. Zippy. Hybrid.
Proper review this one. Highly considering one in the coming months.
Can't wait to put a deposit down for the hybrid and hopefully I'll get it by 2025!!
Here In South Africa these sell like crazy circa 2000 units a month! However the Chinese have started eating into the Toyota pie the Haval Jolion and H6 combined also did about 2000 units over the same period.
Never buy a Chinese car.
Wait until those Chinese cars break down. The Toyotas will still be running around for years to come.
Not gonna lie, that package is super unimpressive for the $50k price tag…
and it doesn't even get the HUD that the cheaper hatch does!
No HUD, no panoramic sunroof, which like standard already on other brands. :(
@Paul M the memory seats are done through a user system on the infotainment system, spare tires are available in the 2wd variants, most of the competition don’t have a spare tire
50k? Might as well get a Tesla
@@whenspringbegins
*A Tesla would cost an extra $10,000 over the $50,000 so it's actually $60,000 if you're talking AUS $ and you only get the standard range (430 km per charge.) The Corolla Cross is fully loaded +hybrid at $10,000 cheaper than the cheapest Tesla (model 3) and can travel double the range.)*
Thanks for the comment! Will try and do this for the next set of cars we film.
@@CarExpertAus You guys have the best community engagement. Thank you!!!
Awesome test, including noise db. Respect
It sounded like you test drove a Yaris Cross...
😆🤣😃La Corolla Cross au pays des géants !🤠
I need to buy it in the coming 4weeks!
Thank you for tutorial
The speed in reverse is really important?
Of course for emergency situation
Good review Paul, but you seemed confused on power adjustable seats, the driver side is powered while the passenger side isn’t.
3:35 I saw the online brochure for the latest RAV4, and the key has almost 10 buttons
Looking forward to you and the team doing a soft road small size group segment comparison to sort out the useful from the useless. Or maybe a hybrid challenge to see which will empty their half tank faster on a road trip where petrol stations are quite far apart.
Toyota is doing an amazing job!!! Great designs, improving performance plus their reliable trademark...flawless
"Rav4 not available, buy this instead" is the feel i got from Toyota
36 months wait on Rav4. This one is only 24 months wait :s
Excellent reviews from India
i have a corolla cross with 2.0 engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 47 MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating except merging and hyper mill when ever possible. so l smile when i see the gas pump, and its a different kind of fun to squeeze for MPG.
do you have awd or FWD, thats really good mileage
@@esmondlai6726 FWD.
Toyota did a really good job filling the gap between Corolla and Rav 4. The size and price point is very attractive to buyers who want a fuel efficient compact SUV. If you can’t wait 12+ month for Rav 4 and prefer something smaller this is perfect.
I've never understood why Paul would not do a horn test. Why Paul? Why?
I love this car but the horn sounds hilariously adorable.
Just want to ask does the panoramic sunroof on the Corolla Cross tinted?
The worlds gone mad. 50k Corolla, 40k Jimnys… madness!!
Did this not have a spare tyre?
you dont need a spare until you need one. It is so weird they got rid of spare tyres and everyone is ok
mum just bought a 2024 corolla cross hybrid in China for about $22k AUD, what a bargain.
Inflation.
Off road test results should be included in the review. The whole point of an SUV is that it has light off road capability and this assessment should be included.
I liked the pov for visibility. I don’t mind this car, looks quite good with all the outside shots.
How well does the AWD go off road and where is the spare wheel?
It won't go very far off the road. It has just a 40 hp electric motor powering the rear wheels through a ~1KW battery.
it's looks very nice in our market malaysia one of the best-selling car very popular and very attractive pricing for all variants
The suitcase and backpack in the boot is a pretty good indication of the boot space. How about throwing in a pram to see how it fits?
Take your pram to a dealership?
@BornAgainCynic0086 He's right. A pram is a fair real world test. It's a fair point.
With 390l the pram might take up as much space as the red luggage bag for the AWD if not slightly more. You definitely need to bring your pram to check as all prams are different. On a different channel they did the pram test and it was a good fit, but that was for FWD not AWD.
i got mine today, and its sooo nice 8-)
no spare tyre?
Been thrown away to other space 😂
Would it have helped if the air con was off with the 0-100 test??
At that price range Paul why not go for the Sportage?
you could say that about any top of the range car in a size class below
@@jackcalow2430 but Sportage is on a class above the Cross. That's my beef with Toyota and Ford these days; Price Range
Because it is NOT a Toyota.
Corolla for more than $50k Driveaway. Toyota have lost the plot.
They all have, Covid had burnt their brains cells !!
Couldn agree more
It's annoying how reviewers like this don't call them out for this shit either..
The interior looks like it's a 25k car
This Corolla Cross cost more than a hybrid RAV4 awd
@@needleontherecord the RAV4 is getting a 5k price rise
Thank you for the video. Between C-HR and Toyota Cross which one is the best and why?
CHR if you like to keep your passengers claustrophobic and Toyota if not.
It's the most in demand car in South Africa for 2022
Can you add insulation afte rthe fact, to quell the road/tyre noise?
Thanks for the cabin noise in DB.
No worries!
Got quoted 1.5-2.5 years waiting time for the hybrid version from my local dealer
The basic mechanisms of eCVT and CVT are completely dissimilar.
eCVTs, such as those found on the Toyota RAV4, are significantly different from belt- and chain-driven continuously variable transmissions (CVTs)
eCVT is a different, more generic name for the hybrid powertrain installed in all pure Toyota hybrid vehicles.
With the exception of the incredibly thrashy sound you get from a conventional CVT.
Any news on the RAV4 Prime?
It doesn’t look like it.
I have just purchased one in that colour. I have to wait for 12 months though. I really enjoyed your video, it helps me stay excited about the car.
very nice vehicle. Was going to buy a RAV4 next year but before i do that i will consider this. I like it for the price.
Good review Paul - Thanks. I have an Atmos on order and in the same Jungle Khaki colour. Very impressed with it and the autonomous parking functionality is really good when tried out in the demo model.

At 49K, I feel like the price is a bit too close to the Rav4? I am guessing that they will increase the price of the Rav4 when the next gen comes out.
That's what I'm thinking too!
it's like a 2 year wait time for the rav4 unfortunately

Great review, Paul - do you have the Suzuki S-cross in Australia. I would be interested in that one. Thanks
The rear filament lights will probably turn out more reliable than LED's on the front!
LED light technology has been refined to the point that they are more reliable since LEDs usually have longer lifespan that Filaments.
@@abayamangali might be more reliable but when one or more of those led’s go you can’t simply replace them you would have to buy the hole light assembly.
Great video. Drove the Yaris cross was also impressed.
Old school globes might be primitive, though they're a lot cheaper to replace..
You would not need to replace them during the life of the vehicle if they were LED.
The EV wiring in the spare wheel well looks very amateurish.
You cannot achieve optimal fuel consumption on a brand new car, as an engineer would always expect excess of 6500km on a new engine to be fully run in and above. Therefore achieving around 700km/tank and 4-4.4lph on this car.
Any news on the 2024 Cross, its been about 11 months since this was released here.
