The problem I see with the cleaning is you should never have to add gas to the unit.If it needs gas then there is a leak somewhere and if gas is just added it can cause the unit to not cool properly. Those types of units normal have what's called a critical change weight meaning they should the exact amount as listed on the unit data plate. I'm a retired HVAC service tech and have worked on thousands of those types of units.
it's actually best to have your A/C Freon topped off once a year, particularly before summer. You can be as stingy as you want but that added gas is a godsend during summer. It can't be avoided that some gas will leak as time goes on which is normal. You really only need to replace it if you find discrepancies in the cooling like the A/C losing its cool even after cleaning.
the real problem is they just spray water into the unit most of the time which doesn't clean the unit properly. Then mold grows due to excess moisture. Its like trying to clean a really dirty car without soap or sponge. If the units already moldy then it doesn't solve the issue at all.
