Nope the US only gets overpriced bulky compensator trucks when most people only need a true UTE the ford maverick is too big. Just give me a Chevy Malibu with a truck bed but sadly hell would freeze over first
I’m willing to bet that all other US auto manufacturers will grease the palms of NHTSA or some other safety organization, to deny allowing these to be sold or driven on state roads due to US Safety Standards not being up to par. It’s really sad, because I’d love to have one of the flat bed versions for my property.
a truck that size would have to get like 50 mpg to be able to pass CAFE standards, which would be kinda impossible. unless toyota feels like paying 10k per truck that doesn't standards
@@matt-jv8gh That standard is insane and need to be revised, yet it will continue. We all see that it punishes small vehicles and larger vehicles somehow is better according to the standard. rofl

You can import vehicles directly that don't meet standards but will be unable to register them for use anywhere but your property. You would need to put them on a tow truck to move them from customs impound to your land.
I'd buy one in a heart beat with the camping setup! Even with the tent setup extra costs, import fees, etc this truck would still be 1/4 of the price for a base truck and a 1/10 of the price for a camper. Hell to buy a truck bed camper for my tacoma, just the camper itself is $30k for a cheap model.
U.S. market you would need front air bags and ABS, A/C, and a few minor changes. For 15-18K, you could not produce enough of them, demand would be through the roof...
The $10,000 target price is for the gasoline manual version without airbags and anti-lock brakes and a flat bed. Add all the required safery features and a transmission Millennials and Zoomers can use and you will basically have a $16,000 base-model Hi-Lux.
Soon as I seen the overland version with a tent I wanted this truck, even knowing that's probably another $10k added. I'd still be way below the $75k-$100k for the same setup in America. Add the import tax, who cares. Our country has all this "safety" shit for one reason and one reason only, to make more rich people even more rich. We don't need all the safety shit that's required today, all we need is ABS, stability control, and Airbags, everything else including catalytic converts and especially the lane keeping and automatic emergency stop sensors... Oh and lets not forget the diesel "DEF" system that's just a complete scam all together.
Back in 2018 you could get that same car for like $12,000 because of dealer rebates, incentives and a whole bunch of other stuff. Now it's about one of the few cars a year and a half ago that you could buy for below MSRP
You do realize that almost 28% of the cost of a car in the United States is because of all the environmental shit that has to go into it right? Don't believe me go look at what Ford sells their vehicles for another countries and you can see the massive difference. Oh and don't forget to tack on the union cost, where because of a union the guy that sweeps the floor has to make $70 an hour. I understand where people see the low-cost of things like Toyotas and Hondas but people also don't see why the cost of American vehicles are more expensive and they just think it's the CEO trying to get a new Yacht for the year, it's not, Because of Democrats and yes it is because of Democrats and their bulshit policies we got environmental shit we got to pay for we got Union shit we got to pay for we got to pay for all kinds of safety testing, that all adds up in the consumers the one that's going to pay for it.
They could be made in Mexico. That would help with the import taxes. Even if they are not sold at $10k if it could sell at $15 or slightly more it would be a hit.
Absolutely for the price of a brand new Harley-Davidson with the versatility of popping off one thing on the back and sliding on another at any time, this thing would be the best selling all purpose truck for years to come. Dodge chevy and Ford would only catch the heavy haul Market but lose out on everything else.

Not a toyota kind of person, but this is something i would drive from the manufacturer. An affordable pickup that is exactly as stated. Make it a crew cab (so i can drive my family) and i would pay the chicken tax for it.
I'm missing out on decades of "superior reliability"... I'm not really missing out, I can get 200-250k out of my chryslers and mitsubishis. Also, I'd take a Honda before toyota, just my $0.02. :)
In its most basic form at $10,000 with a 25% tax it would have MSRP of $12,500 dollars for the flatbed version, still a bargain for U.S. buyers. There is no small truck in the U.S. with a price tag under $24,000. Toyota what are you waiting for? Bring it to the U.S. market!
This truck would be so freaking badass! Put a 4 or 6 cylinder diesel in that thing with a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission, put a 3 inch spacer kit with massive buggy tires on it and a nice 4-in lift. Were I Toyota, I'd begin hunting down older Toyota hi lux and other pickups and SUV Toyota platforms in the compact segment, put them through a us based reconditioning and inspection process, then put them up for sale. It's a solid used market because these are vehicles that enthusiasts search out and import anyway. This could also bring new parts for these models to the states, often leading to custom vehicles using upgraded or more desired engines or transmission types and there's money in this also. If you think this is viable, let me know.
Yes but adding a backup camera, air bags, and a few other requirement for the US market and tariffs would drive the price up significantly to more like $15-18K.
I would personally still buy this if they made all the adjustments for safety and if it sold really well in the world. I cant even imagine the $ ill *potentially* save for spare parts if it would reach a massive marketshare + ease of repairability seems phenomenal
