Toyota did a reboot👍 back to basics 😏 Used the formula of what made Hilux what Hilux is today, the most favourable Pickup/Truck world wide "We Love It" This version totally reminds me of the second generation Hilux RN25, a perfect tool meant to do what it's designed for reliably & economically, "Yes" need for improvement is required here & there as mentioned on the content & hope the engineers do note this areas but I'm Confident what Toyota is know for "KAiZEN" that shall surely happen, hope Toyota market's the "Champ" worldwide & makes it look more like the RN25/RN30 plus known quality. That's my take, definitely this one shall be a hit, Cheers 🥂 Toyota 👍

The reviewer can't let go of all the bullshit built into the American truck market...Size this, power that, safety stuff and amenities no one ever needs in a basic work truck. Air conditioning and a speedometer are all that's necessary to get goods from point A to point B!!! Oh, and somewhere along the line, good quality means good welding and anti-corrosion coatings (I'm looking at you Toyota).

This is why they are resonably priced they are simple in the interior but the less tech and frills makes it more reliable as in the case of my 1097 Toyota Hilux there is absolutely no tech it has a carburator mo cat converter and of course the 22R engine there is nothing major to go wrong l must admit my Hilux has a small amount of creature comforts over the Champ it has a heater a temperature gauge and an AM/FM radio although it is still basic the original owner got a couple of optional extras for 1997 air conditioning which still works cruise cotrol which doesn't work and a cassette radio which is sort of working also a Toyota genuin accessory a tow bar there is a sticker on that says that that probably will work l haven't tested it out yet because l don't have a trailer l don't need a trailor there is a eight foot by four foot tray with my Toyota Hilux

Just looked at one in Thailand and they are very cool here. I have owned a 1975 CJ5 jeep in the States and the vib sort of like that ultra basic design. $16,000 gets you the upgraded exterior trim package. can have the exterior wrapped after market in any color, like army green or tan and LED KC lights, roll bar and HumVee antennas all over it. :) Still need to find a way to secure the back so you can carry luggage and what ever. this maybe great for exploring Thailand as a Ford Sport pickup starts at around $10,000 more here and is still 2x4.

research how much injectors cost for the diesel version. You gotta replace them around every 100,000 miles or 200,000 kms. Toyota and other manufactures are taking advantage of people when it comes to maintaining these things. Imagine paying 3grand USD for just injectors during your 100,000 mi service. no one is talking about this.

That's a very interesting, competent and actually intelligent work truck. It's a compact truck so you don't even need much power in it (it doesn't have to carry it's own extra weight as in bigger truck). The safety issue is just an excuse to force US citizens to buy bigger and bigger and bigger... Big trucks and suv's themselves ARE the reason why people in normal sized vehicles don't feel safe. Not to mention also the environmental impact of all this big vehicle rat race nonsense...

I'd love to be able to get one with a 2.4 diesel, 4wd, long bed and a manual transmission but live in America. The Chicken tax and EPA are preventing these trucks from going to first world countries. I've heard that these trucks start at $10,000 USD. They sell them in Mexico and I have been trying to figure out a way to go down there and purchase one but can't find any information out about doing that. A used 2003 Toyota Tacoma goes for more than one of these. I'd rather purchase a Toyota Hilux Champ.

As some people pointed out, both it's payload capacity and the option to remove the bed means it's competing against trucks like the f250 and f350, trucks 3x as expensive as the most expensive Hilux champ model. It will sell to the people it's made for, not for soccer moms and aholes who want a big truck because big truck. A truck like this has been missing in the market for ages and I know even here in the EU (where vans are king) the champ would do good because of it's price point and incredibly durable construction, it's the cheap low maintainance cargo vehicle many businesses need

Let's discuss reliability in 2045. Let it prove itself first. I have a long list of case studies to prove the opposite. Calling a new vehicle "reliable" is a bit of a gamble, perhaps not very smart?
