The job itself ain’t bad, but you won’t exactly be greeted warmly by the rest of the Army. Most of the stations and vehicles are ok, but the weapons and gear can often be run down. The ALERTS system they use for reporting can also be extremely frustrating, and paperwork takes way more time than on civilian departments. The good news is that on the Army side you don’t generally have to deal with too many homeless or drug addicts, although you will still see them from time to time. The job gives you a foot in the door with outside Lawman jobs, but other MOS’s might be more rewarding.

The 289th MP Company at Fort Myer were some decent guys and gals when I served in The Old Guard. It's probably due to the ceremonial nature that brings the entire Regiment together, but we Infantry types mostly got along fine with the 31Bs. As a Military Prisoner Escort, I was much less impressed by their Marine Corrections counterparts working at the Quantico Brig. I had to do a couple of escort missions, and the Marines there would be half-dressed first thing in the morning, while their NCOs would give me conflicting guidance on what restraints the Detainee or Prisoner had to wear for transport, often talking down to me because I had the audacity to bring the Soldier back in the same three-piece suit (cuffs, leg shackles, waistbelt) he wore when I picked him up. As a whole, MPs have a bad reputation, but I think that's undeserved. I was active for 21 years and never got pulled over by an MP. I'd give myself plenty of time to get where I needed to go and would go under the speed limit at times.
