    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
As Johnny (Christopher Walken) shakes hands with Presidential candidate Greg Stillson (Martin Sheen), he discovers his true ambitions.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
Christopher Walken plays a schoolteacher, Johnny Smith, who awakens from a five-year coma. He discovers that he has acquired the ability to foretell a person's future simply by touching his or her hand. After seeing several examples, Smith's doctor (Herbert Lom) becomes convinced that Smith can not only predict the future, but also has the power to change it. This ability is given its severest test when Smith shakes the hand of ruthless political candidate Greg Stillson (Martin Sheen) -- and suddenly has a flash-forward to a nuclear holocaust. The Dead Zone is not only one of the best-ever Stephen King adaptations, but also one of the most consistently successful (and least gory) efforts of director David Cronenberg.
    CREDITS:
    TM & © Paramount (1983)
Cast: Gordon Jocelyn, Géza Kovács, Ken Pogue, Martin Sheen, Christopher Walken
    Director: David Cronenberg

I don't know how that show ended, but it would have been an excellent ending! I couldn't watch that show with Martin Sheen as president after seeing this. It doesn't even have to be a launch against the Soviet Union/Russia or China, but could be a launch against Iran, North Korea or another minor power.

What is more terrifying is that Greg Stilson used to be a Bible Sales Man. Growing he preached. Now when he used his preaching skills as a way to announce his plan of destruction is downright realistic. Martin Sheen really brought this character to life as the scariest human beings. Sheen looking at the other two men right before pressing the button is amazing acting. I can't even describe the look on his face but it perfectly conveys the "in-over-his-head" magnitude of the scenario. The ominous, uncharted-waters music right after the launch is perfect too. Terrifying.

True, but I think he was frightened because had he said no, Stillson's bodyguard would've beaten him up and Stillson, as manic as he sounds here very well could've cut his hand off and placed it on the scan. Very messed up scene.

He would have cut off his hand. I'm sure of it! He would have done anything to make his mark. If the general or secretary or whoever he was had fought, he would have only delayed the inevitable. He only saved himself from having himself shot. I have to assume that the scanner works for a living or a dead hand. It just scans for the print pattern. A good failsafe would be to ensure that only a living hand is able to activate the device.

Reading the book right now. As I read through the prologue, it showed about Johnny's childhood moments as a skater while Greg Stillson was in his 20s as a Bible salesman. But it also revealed how fucked up Greg is when he kicked a dog to death out of defense, slapped a girl a bunch of times, and dug his father's grave kicking his corpse screaming, "You were wrong, dad! You were wrong about me!" Only because his militant dad used to say to him,"You're no good, runt! You're no fucking good!" He actually got away with those situations just so he kept his record clean and not lose his job. Now look where it lead him to be. A total madman running for president.
